It's not really explained in the shows as far as I'm aware. But it's stated somewhere that Ben hates when he wins fights too easily, that's why he practically never uses alien X unless forced to.
So when hes besting all of these run of the mill bad guys who don't even cut it as a villain of the week he gets bored

The reason why Kevin doesn't just absorb the powers of the aliens is because, as shown in classic ben 10, doing so runs the risk of Kevin being stuck as a monster again.

Hopefully you guys see this. yes this had different writers as well as cartoon network had a hand in interfering with the writing of show especially Ben's Character. as for Kevin's powers, yes his powers are still the same, and as for the explanation for why he doesn't just absorb anything, you guys will get the explanation in Late Ultimate Alien cuz its a direct continuation of Alien Force. lastly its fine that you like Classic over Alien Force, just as its fine that there are a portion of the fanbase that despise Classic but Love Alien Force/Ultimate Alien. its All Subjective, also this is one of those shows where most of questions you want answered are answered in interviews and in statements made by the writers and not in the actual show so yeah lol

Honestly, just watch the video called sntire Ben 10 story explained. They actually go through all of the important moments and gets you understand that when show wants, it really can give you good stories. But mostly, story in Ben 10 is no way near ro Diamonds like Gravity falls or Owl house. I still absolutely love Ben 10, but it has too many drawbacks. It’s hard to be Ben 10 fan and prove why it is actually good

Let me just inform you, if you want story, then wait another season. The only cohesive story of that era was Aggregor, ultimate Kevin and maybe Dagon(worst ending of any show btw). Shockingly, omniverse has way better story, even with the load of crap in it. So, maybe I would recommend you to watch some specific episodes, to not be disappointed by the Ben 10 show.

Which is why they let vilgax go after he quit
Cuz they did it the legal way
If it was an off the books fight it would've gone differently

Omniverse
Kevins powers get explained in a later series
Alot of the things you guys are asking about will get explained
Maybe not in alien force
But alot of them will be explained

i know they'll find out eventually but i feel like giving the headsup that yes there are things that will be explained in the far future ( Spoilers: Kevin's powers for example). But like boom mentioned the franchise had different writers with their own ideas. they're still all canon but they each introduced their own ideas because of the different writers and higher ups. think of it as a typical DC/marvel Product.
Y'alls critiques are valid but I Strongly believe you'll have a bigger picture once u get further into the journey because the lore and stakes are definitely expansive.

to maybe answer seeohknees thing with the power draining and how it works what it probably is imo once vilgax wins legally he is the ruler of that planet meaning anything he does is just the law of that planet at that point the law only dictates the owner of the planet not how its ruled so at that point its still completely legal under that code for vilgax to then drain the power from people on the planet he rules

I’m not crazy. I know Ben 10 isn’t flawless television. It can be thinly plotted, executively meddled, and frequently fails to live up to the expectations it sets for itself.
But it’s just so unapologetically “comic book” about itself and its world, despite being born and raised on television. There’s nothing else in the world quite like Ben 10 and that’s why it’s lived on for so long and in so many different forms.

if they got burnt off the first two seasons i'm kinda worried for the future. Ben 10 was CN's most profitable show (grossed over $6 billion) and because of that they got incredibly handsy with the franchises' production. Not to mention one of main writer's death greatly shifted alot of elements. there's still alot of good to come but i hope they can watch with this background info in mind.

What's weird about Omnitrix malfunctioning here is that it's not much of a handicap. Ben can change his transformation at will if he wants to. It's not like the old Ben where he was stuck in a transformation until the Omnitrix ran out. But for some reason he never chooses to do that.

To add to what Boom said, he is absolutely right that Ben 10 classic was about selling toys and fitting the story around it. Hell i'd say there wasn't much of continuity in Ben 10 classic either. It was about fighting the villian of the week using the 10 (*) cool aliens Ben had.

Just remember if you all ever want to watch some more of the OG Ben series, there is still the two movies from back then. While the live action one isn’t great, the CG one is pretty great and captures the spirit of the OG series pretty well even though they made it when they were still working on Alien Force.
Speaking of, there is also the Alien Force movie which takes place between Season 2 and 3. So, if you want to take a small break from Season 3, there is the movies ^^

Setting aside Ben’s unpleasant behavior, I really like what they did with Vilgax. He isn’t just a generic fight-dirty Omnitrix hungry villain. He actually conquers worlds within the confines of the universe’s laws. Sure it’s still evil, but he’s evil in a weirdly more honorable way than before. He even acknowledges the consequences of his defeat. It makes him a more satisfying villain in my opinion.

this is the problem with season 3 they gas up a villain for more than one episode then the fight only lasts less than five minutes

So if you guys are wondering why Ben is an a hole again the actual reason for this is that Alien Force didn't do quite the same numbers as the Classic Ben 10 so the execs decided that the answer to that is that people wanted to see more of the old Ben. So they reversed almost all the character development he had and reverted him back to being an immature 10 year old. There are a lot of other things that you'll see with the same beats as the old Ben 10 except done a lot worse.

I'm honestly waiting for them to reach Omniverse because it has alot of good and interesting story and worldbuilding crazy fun. And because they use majority of Ben's old aliens and his new ones. If They have to take another break from ben 10 after s3 and UA season that's helps get there quicker.

Omniverse is the worst one IMO, the soft reboot did them no favours and retconning the lore UAF tried to establish doesn’t help the continuity problems. Luckily since it’s a soft reboot people can just skip it since it’s doesn’t actually follow continuity like a sequel and instead acts more like an alternate timeline

And in my honest opinion Omniverse elevates the classic series the most amongst AF & UA and we get an answer to why Ben took off the Omnitrix and other cool and interesting things as well.
