  1. I remember long ago seeing a messed up fan comic where they showed that room steven and Connie were in being opened, but all you saw was a very angry steven and a pink Connie

  2. I would say that the major purpose of the watermelon tangent is to touch base on some of Steven’s major arc notes so far:

-The way his plant-related powers symbolize the version of Rose he grew up trying to imitate, someone who loved life in all its forms even the thorny and gross kinds
-The way his life-creating and possession powers relate to how powerful Pink was and how easy that makes it to abuse your powers (see the Lars possession episode and see how the Pebbles instantly recognize Steven as Pink because only Steven/Pink would thank a servant they created, according to Homeworld)
-The way that the two tribes are fighting based on a fundamental disagreement and confusion about the martyr they both worship (i.e. Pink for Homeworld and Rose for the Crystal Gems) but Steven resolves the conflict by being their martyr returned, and by combining their powers to help him
-The song, Escapism, sung by Stevonnie’s actress, is also pretty relevant- Stevonnie has consistently been a vector by which Steven access Pink’s memories, because Stevonnie combines Steven’s experience with being the weakest and youngest among powerful magical family members, and his deep sense of responsibility but also silly immaturity with Connie’s backstory with strict parents, thus letting Stevonnie be psychically ‘closer’ to Pink- there’s a reason why Stevonnie’s dream of Pink casts Connie’s mom as Yellow Diamond- there’s a similarity there, even if Connie’s mom is better at loving her than Yellow was to Pink.

  3. I feel like the watermelon steven episode is to showcase while yes Rose/Pink diamonds powers are incredible going like halfway across the universe he could still only reach a watermelon steven to become from where he doesnt have any powers so he still needs beings to help him like Lion just showing up when he needs help the most.

  4. Not sure if yall will see this, but you seem to enjoy the background osts. All the background music in this show was created by Aivi & Surrashu! They combine chiptune with traditional instruments like piano, guitar, etc.

  5. H man is right watermeleon island episode is not needed why did we get it right at the end of the show it’s dumb considering how little time they had.

    1. It’s setting expectations for how the finale will go. It is telling you that the ultimate resolution is *not* going to come from battling the Diamonds (as represented by the warrior watermelons who follow Steven-as-martial-leader), and that it is also *not* going to come from self-sacrifice (as represented by the pacifist watermelons who follow Baby Melon). The resolution is going to have to come from some third way — those dual aspects of Steven’s psyche, represented by those two watermelon factions — are going to need to unite in order to build something new.

Sadly, the episode didn’t succeed very well, it seems, since a depressingly large segment of the audience just ignored the text of this episode entirely — and then whined endlessly when indeed, the final resolution was not just some dumbass punch-up with the Diamonds.

    2. eh, I dunno. had to get bismuth and the others to homeworld somehow. and seeing how the watermelon Stevens are doing is a nice break from the constant stressful episodes

  6. Ruff made an interesting observation about the Pearl’s and how they all mirror their owners, yet somehow our Pearl only resembles Pink slightly.

Something that isn’t talked about on the show but instead behind the scenes was that our Pearl was custom made by the other diamonds I n order to keep Pink in line, which explains why not only does she not resemble Pink, but she’s a lot more mature and level headed than Pink herself.

  7. I’m kinda shocked none of you noticed the pearl Steven was playing with in his flashback dream, or at least didn’t question it out loud.
Either way I’m excited for the finale and everything that comes after! There’s a lot of people who dislike the finale, and I understand the critiques on it, it was a bit rushed after all. But with the time they had I think it’s pretty great and I’m hyped to see what you guys think of it!

  8. In my opinion I think one of the main reasons why the diamond stuff wasn’t the entire season is because of budget cuts. Like yellow and white diamond are voiced by tony award winners. The budget is already stretched thin and no offense but hiring the beach city VAs to do things is probably cheaper than 10+ episodes of the two higher billed VAs.

    1. I think you guys are also missing the point that Sadie and other characters were important to Steven as well, not wrapping up their stories wouldn’t be right. I know there’s higher stakes, but these were characters around since season 1 and I think they didn’t want to leave that loose end. With that and the show being cut short thanks to the wedding scene, well you know. They may not be main characters, but the show has so much world building even outside the gems, thus it matters to give the human cast some closure in their arcs however subdued.

      1. It’s also interesting cause it’s somewhat the point of the show that like, earth and humans and other life are all just as important as homeworld and deserve the same amount of respect. So the story has to respect them and let them come to their conclusion in just as big a way as the gems cause otherwise the show would be going against the point of itself. They’re also just really important to Steven’s character and without the episodes showing his progression I think people would have absolutely believed Steven was out of character in his actions on homeworld.

  9. Interesting how h man hated escapism, the fandom was divided on it as well for a separate reason. They thought the song towards the end would be stevonnies fusion song LOL such a dumb reason for people to hate the episode looking back.

    1. i didn’t know people were upset about it at the time why would people think that? i thought the lyrics were pretty self explanatory at the time

  10. At first I would say people weren’t a big fan of SU ending but as time has gone on most people have warmed up to it, and now most people seem to enjoy the ending now adays.

    1. Oh no, people loved it at first then a few months passed certain “people” made videos that gave some people that negative feelings towards it. I think time, the movie/future making it not the official ending plus it being a great episode really helped switch opinions again. Its among the highest rated episodes of the series and has been since airing.

  11. As people have previously said it was the wedding that got them cancelled. I believe Rebecca asked for the movie. Then CN gave them the movie and then Future because by their logic why have a movie if doesn’t promote more show afterwards.
