The reason why we never see Jedi and Sith switch off their opponents lightsaber's is because it's dishonorable (crazy the Sith would care about honor kinda) because at training a Jedi and Sith is trained to create a barrier around their sabers to prevent it from happening.

There's a LOT of great things about The Book of Boba Fett! I just think it should have just been a season of The Mandalorian.

Most lightsabers arent great at quickly reigniting, so it takes a special construction to pull it off and for you not to get murdered by another guy who redirects the weightless laser sword. The jedi considered it overtly violent and dishonorable, the sith considered it a move of the weak who couldnt conquer their enemy with brute strength

pretty sure the reason the Sith don't use that technique is its considered pussy move set lol. Also the deathstar is not a big lightsaber lol but that would be cool.

I always thought they didn’t turn off the lightsaber is because your opponents lightsaber is still coming at you until I watched a video and it’s explained to be a forbidden technique but I don’t remember the reason why

Right like lightsabers are pretty much weightless outside the darksaber, so turning off your lightsaber is kinda asking to be killed quickly

Simplest believable explanation of turning your lightsaber off when clashing is that your opponets lightsaber is still coming at you.

As far as I remember, turning off and on mid fight isn't a canon technique. The clip you saw was from star wars visions I'm pretty sure, which is like love, death and robots. If you don't know, it's an anthology which has widely differing concepts and ideas and illustrations loosely connected by themes. Star wars vision is simply a series of short-term episodes only connected by one thing; it's star wars related. They're all their own thing, but are all star wars flavored media, while not being canon to the universe.

Now, if it is a canon technique or is explored in the expanded universe, I'm not enough of a star wars head to know it, but yes, the Jedi would have found it dishonorable and a cheap shot. The Sith on the other hand would have found it cowardly and a show of weaknesss. They're cool with killing people. They're cool with murdering people too. Some throughout the star wars universe have made weapons of mass destruction such as the death Star, and technically, they're all fine with things of that nature, although from one with to another, ideals may vary. The idea is tho, that, you are an Apex and if you are in 1 on 1 combat, Sith are meant to be dominant and strong. If they rely on cheap tricks all the time to win, it means that they aren't actually all that great of a combatant if any time they engage in fighting someone they need to rely on something unpredictable, cowardly and cheap to survive, they're probably not all that strong to begin with. So, instead, they don't teach or learn these cheap techniques that aren't feat of power, but simply pocket sand.

The Reason you don't turn off your lightsaber in combat is because it's so incredibly dumb that it's more likely to get you killed than your opponent. You have to catch them off guard

canon both eu and disney can be varry consistent. it just depends on how much you remember or take time enough to look into . If your just in it for vibes then it doesnt matter as much but if u look for it theres answer for mostly everything

Regular beings can use a lightsaber--its a tool. Its more that a jedi and their lightsaber have a connection.

You all need to watch Tales of the Jedi before you watch the final season. They're little shorts that give you some extra context for the final season and they add to the story brilliantly

Yep, spoilers aplenty. It's kind of telling since Tales of the Jedi was released after season 7. Definitely agree in holding off.

To Eric's Question about lightsabers and non Jedi: The force resides in all living things in the star wars galaxy, just to varying degrees. What sets the Jedi apart is they are more in tune with it to the point they can use it to effect the world around them. So its possible that the amount of force in any person is enough to just RUN a lightsaber, but to properly Weild it and by channeling the force through it, that's unique to force users like jedi.

It would explain why non force users like Finn seem to be such Ass when using it compared to a force sensitive like Rey , even though they both had zero Lightsaber training when fighting Kylo in force awakens.

Yeah lightsabers also are functionally weightless blades that cut through anything so no force sensitivity means you kinda have to use it like a bat nit sword or you risk killing yourself not knowing where the blade is

For the saber crystal and Jedi being a focus for the force the explanation behind that is basically like what Boom was saying but with a bit more context. Anyone can pick up and turn on a lightsaber cause the blade is just energy being focused through the blade BUT because both a Jedi and the crystal are conduits for the force that means when a Jedi uses one, more specifically the one with the crystal that chooses them, the blade becomes like a literal extension of themselves. They will almost never hit themselves with it cause you almost never hit yourself with your own fist because your brain and muscles can feel exactly where it is at all times. That’s why Jedi and sith have an advantage with sabers and are considered the only real proficient practitioners of lightsaber combat

The blade is energy being focused through the crystal* don’t see a way to edit my comment so this’ll have to do. Also most people accidentally cut themselves with lightsabers cause the actual blade is weightless so it’s like swinging around a jump rope handle and trying to never aim the upper end at yourself. This is another reason Jedi, who can feel the blade as an extension, are generally the only ones using sabers

It's weightless, but still creates a rotational, almost gyroscopic effect. Hence the blade feels 'heavy' or otherwise unwieldy. It's because it's almost like a circuit, plasma is constantly being emitted upwards, then circled around in a loop back to the handle.

That's why they're hard to wield. Or at least as I understand it.

No the Sith didn't think it was "dishonourable" the Sith straight up thought it was a bitch move, a sith lord viewed killing a jedi with that method as proof you weren't a true warrior, that you couldn't beat a jedi through pure power and Force alone.

The first blades used by the Jedi were actual blades. The Jedi would use the Force while forging them to strengthen the blade, and a crystal would be placed into the hilt. Apparently the blade would glow with a ghostly light when a Jedi wielded it, but the blade itself was a traditional metal blade. The energy blade isn’t how it started.

Even the Sith don't do the lightsaber turn off thing yes. They just see it as a I have no balls so I'll do this type shit. Nobody wants to do it. It's dishonora le and cowardly in every Jedi and Siths eyes. Also it just lends a risk that when they do it the other person has a better chance to get at you. Lemme just say, people do such a bad job at explaining the lore sometimes.

In Legends it explains that Lightsabers used to need battery packs, so you could just cut the cord on it and turn off the saber

I read somewhere that wookies who are force sensitive are crazy rare. That one wookie youngling was legit a one in a million or one in a billion chance or something.

The clip Ruff was talking about requires context: the Sith had two lightsabers, one being the main saber and the other a smaller one. And in the clip one of his lightsabers was occupied with the Jedi's, but he used the other saber to stab them. You can see it in the full scene
