Chancellor Palpatine doesn't have full control over the Republic. The Republic acts similar to American government in that you have committees and groups and branches you have to go through to get things done, get bills signed, move assets for relief or combat, etc. The Rhodian emergency food supplies were held up in red tape. The Trade Federation/Separatists saw the Rhodian struggle and took advantage, looking to take another star system/Senator away from the Republic Senate and at it to their own Confederacy of Independent Star Systems, or CIS for short.
Senator Amidala said what she said to the Rhodian Senator, not because she didn't see it from his perspective of his people, but because 10+ years ago (Episode I) the Trade Federation did similar, terrible acts to her people on Naboo; and when the Senate back then wouldn't help her people, they fought back instead of giving into Nute Gunray like what the Rhodians did.

Naboo’s people weren’t starving. The blockade was in its early days, Naboo had enough natural resources to make their own food and the Federation had to feed the people after the invasion to keep them alive. The situations are completely different. Padme is the bad guy here.

Palpatine's basic plan was to make a war so awful that the republic would willingly give up their freedom and become and Empire with him as Emperor. Right now he's doing everything he can to drag out the war and make as many people suffer as much as possible.

I do love how this series didn't step away from how silly star wars can be. Also R.I.P James Earl Jones. A true legend.

This is just movie 3 (Return of the Sith) information to keep in mind as far as the motivations for the war.
Palpatine is secretly funding, fueling, and technically the top of the Separatist Alliance rebellion. However, we know from movie 3 that Palpatine does not actually want the Separatists to win the war. He used the start of the war in movie 2 to be voted as the Chancellor to be basically the leader of the republic. By movie 3 the Republic has actually mostly won the war with Dooku dead at the beginning and Grievous dead in the middle. But Palpatine wanted that because once he turns Anakin he has the clones rebel to take out the Jedi and then SENDS ANAKIN TO WIPE OUT THE REMAINING SEPARATISTS. Leaving only the republic to be reformed into the "new galactic empire" or The Empire with him as the Emperor (the original movie setup). In movie 4 (the first star wars movie released), in one of the first scenes there are Empire officers talking before a meeting and they mention that the Emperor has just finished dissolving the last of the Republic.

Man, I always forget how well done some of the action scenes involving Jedi were, even in early TCW.
That fight between Anakin and Magnaguards was damn good, with some very unique cinematography on top.
In general, TCW manages to capture the supernatural agility of the Jedi in a way live action never could.
I also appreciate that Ahsoka was shown to be clearly outmatched by Grievous in terms of fighting ability, having to rely on her nimble nature to get out of having to fight the General in the first place. Good stuff all around from the 2nd episode of the R2 Lost arc.
Also "Battle droids? No. Jar Jar? Jar Jar." is one of my favorite comedic bits to come out of this entire show.

Force ability force jump: allowed its user to leap huge distances. Moreover force-users could use force-falling power to endure great falls and decent
