This is kinda when I petered out of the MCU. I know this is a Captain America movie and of course is gonna side more with Steve on the issue, but from what I understand the comic of this arc actually showed both sides equally. It also doesn't help that SHIELD is now gone, which was the original leash on the Avengers team, if you really think about it... It was kind of a frustrating watch for me the very first time.

I mean, the conflict in the comics was also different. The specifics of the situation and what was in the accords was different. And while it showed both sides, it was not sympathetic toward Tony who did some borderline unforgiveable things.

One detail I love in this film is Wanda having an ability restraining collar around her neck when we see her in a cell on the Raft prison Idk if it was done intentionally as a nod to her & Pietro’s Mutant heritage in the comics & animated series, or just a fun coincidence because it makes sense that the government would have such devices for super powered people. If you remember in Deadpool 2 & X-Men ‘97 Mutants were often detained with similar collars.

Depending on the day you ask, my favorite movie in the greater MCU is either X2:X-Men United or X-Men:The Last Stand. I have a sentimental attachment to both films.

From a technical, better executed film standpoint it would be X2, hands down .

But there is just something about the chaotic nature of Last Stand that I love. It’s a beautiful mess of a film. I won’t go into specifics, just incase you guys decide to take on the Fox X-Verse at some point.

X-Men: The Last Stand was the first time as an adult, I felt like I was 12 again, watching my favorite Saturday Morning Cartoon come to life and it was AWESOME!

Season 2 of X-Men ‘97 comes out in 2026, have you given any thought to watching the OG animated series?

I joined the Patreon when you guys started the MCU, it has been awesome revisiting these films with you all.

Game of Thrones has been a fantastic bonus!

My Favorite isolated MCU  movie is Avengers (2012) My husband & I took our 6yo old to see it opening weekend, it was a perfect moment in my life.

It is also a near perfect film, imho anyway.

Civil War is an extremely close 2nd, saw it on Mother’s Day with the kid & Hubby, and it was another perfect moment.

And again, a near perfect film.

That is probably one of the best iterations of Spider-Man aside from Toby Maguire's Spider-Man in the Sam Raimi movies. It's so stupid good it's a shame that it got cancelled due to the mess that was Disney Purchasing Marvel. Seriously, it's amazing, and incredible and if you have to choose any of the Marvel tv shows, that one.

A few little fun facts about this movie!

The day before filming a fight scene with Robert Downey Jr., Sebastian Stan sent him a video of himself doing intense bicep curls in front of the decapitated head of an Iron Man suit. He attached the message, "Looking forward to our scene tomorrow Robert."

No CGI was used during the highway chase scene when Bucky commandeers a moving motorcycle from under its rider. The whole stunt was practical.

(at around 1h 19 mins) Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) remarks how attractive Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) is. Downey and Tomei had a relationship in the 1990s, and appeared in two other films together

Co-director Joe Russo said that "The most powerful shot of the film" was Steve Rogers stopping a helicopter from taking off with his bare hands. The shot was featured in the first teaser trailer for this movie. Russo said Chris Evans worked very hard in the gym to physically embody the character, because they wanted to test the limits of Steve's physical strength. About the shot itself, he noted, "On-set, we had Chris straining against a crane, holding the helicopter to get this fantastic shot of his muscles bulging, and you can feel the energy and determination as he tries to stop it."

When Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) is in Bucharest, Romania, he is shown to be buying plums at a fruit market. Plums are beneficial in treating those with Alzheimer's disease, which therefore is suitable for Bucky, because he has been brainwashed, and is trying to remember his life before becoming the Winter Soldier.

In discussions about this film, I always see folks conflating the policy debate and Bucky's actions as a covert operative. These are two separate issues. Glad I haven't seen that in the comments so far.

  37. Annie519
    1 day

This is definitely one of the best of the MCU! Amazing action, good comedy and very well written dialog. I think it was so interesting how Tony and Steve switch places and go against their original characters. We all know if this was back in Iron Man 1 or even 2 Tony never would have sided with the accords but through his guilt and feeling as if this would bring Pepper back he went with them. And Steve would have followed orders in the beginning but after witnessing corruption, the big one being Hydra hiding behind shield for decades he no longer trusted the government and rightfully so! I will say though, the examples they showed still aggravate me! New York was not the Avengers fault, destruction was happening whether The Avengers helped or not. And could you imagine if they had to wait for approval to help? The blame goes to Loki and Shield, they were the ones that were messing with the tesseract and it opened, which led to Loki entering earth. And in Washington millions of people would have been executed, including everyone in that room. I have no doubt that Ross was on that list and Sokovia was all Tony and Bruce, even more so Tony since he pressured Bruce into it. The other Avengers never had any say in the matter or even knew about until it was too late. So, yeah I completely side with Cap and even in this same movie they prove he was right. Tony never even tried to listen or hear him out and I know she eventually changes sides but I never understood why Natasha wouldn't have tried to hear Steve out from the beginning. And in the end Tony literally goes against the accords, he cut the audio while talking to Sam, he didn't tell Ross about Steve or where he was going and went without having orders to do so. And with the whole fight at the end, I totally understand why Tony went crazy but that doesn't make him right. He was trying to kill Bucky, a man that had to choice and Steve tried to tell him that. Maybe go after the people that actually killed your parents, not the weapon, which Bucky was. He was still wrong and Cap was wrong for keeping it from him, but again I understand. How do you honestly tell a friend something like that? Why this movie works so well is because you can get both sides, even after you choose one.

So, this has nothing to do with this movie but when you get to Spider-Man Homecoming please at the end watch a video called Rappin' With Cap on Youtube! When you watch it you'll understand why, but it is incredibly funny and I would love to see your reaction to it!

They keep saying that everyone is focusing on the bad, but people died as a direct result of their actions. I think the main thing people want is accountability. You can't just sum it up as, greater vs few.

What always pisses me off is that in Age of Ultron, Tony mentions a Stark Relief Foundation that aids in clean up and helping AFTER THEIR FIGHTS. Like.... They are taking accountability!! Its literally said in a previous movie and people act like they just fuck off and vanish after blowing shit up. Guess Aid workers and crews running around with STARK on their shit isnt enough a hint that the Avengers are helping i guess.

First time watching this all the way through, I knew years ago that Tony's side was the side for me. Even at the end, Cap thought he was doing everything for the greater good but he was just trying to protect Bucky. That line in his letter "I hope someday you understand," is not something that Tony has to deal with when it was his PARENTS that were killed. Brainwashed or not, Bucky needs to be held responsible for everything that he's at fault for. I'm not saying he needs to die, but he needs to be held somewhere

tony literally was such a flop this movie he was dead set on "taking accountability" (which is not at all what the accords would have done, it only would have redirected the avengers power towards whatever the un decided—giving that much power to governmental agencies is never the right move)—he wouldn't listen to steve when steve was trying to tell him that there was a bigger picture in this scenerio, an steve's own emotional attachment to bucky doesn't take away from the fact that bucky was framed for a specific malevolent purpose. when tony finds out that oh boy captain america was trying to tell me something and i'm only now interested in listening now that my OWN best friend was harmed, he switched up his tune real quick and went there right at the end to sort things out with steve—and THEN he finds out about his parents assassination and he once again disregards his plan to suit his own emotional needs. like, he was going to hear them out and then fell right into zemo's hands. tony literally did not HAVE a side—he was never actually fighting for the accords, it was just a way to assuage his own guilt over what happened in sokovia after he was confronted by that kid's mom (because ultron was genuinely his fault 100%, and he knew that). he switched up real quick when he realized about zemo, and then switched up again to try and avenge his parents' death because that's what HE wanted to do. he is not some moral grandstand

It’s so crazy that they bring up winter soldier event because bro hydra was literally 30 seconds away from killing like a significant percentage of the world population. The government was invaded by Nazi and you want to put more government in control of the people who stopped the Nazi last time?

Also Tony makes me so mad when he’s taking about that dead kid “we dropped a building on him” no Tony, you did that, you made ultron behind everyone’s back, putting any blame on anything in sokovia on anyone but you and banner is fucked up

Technically Steve's the obvious answer, but for the political argument, neither. The movie frames the politics in a personal way to make it more digestible, but it misses the forest for the trees. The issue just became Steve's loyalty to Bucky vs Tony's personal, instead of a real clash of ideology. Don't get me wrong though, I do love this movie, the interpersonal drama is my favorite part, it just doesn't raise hard questions like the comics did
