I'm not religious but i've always loved the stories from the Bible and such, this is one of my favourite movies, i really hope you do "Joseph King of Dreams" too

It is perfect albeit bittersweet timing seeing The Prince of Egypt. It's always an awesome day to enjoy this absolute marvel of a movie, but so sad for the passing of Val Kilmer. I'm so grateful he lent his voice to such an enduring masterpiece.

According to the Old Testament, there were Egyptians who converted during the plagues and left with Israelites. There were other Egyptians who just gave them goods as they left--like paying them to leave and take their vengeful God with them. As the Song of Moses says--Yaweh is a Man of War.Good film. Great music. Not gonna lie, when i got the notification I was like 'who convinced these idiots to watch this? This is gonna be a mess 😂" But glad y'all enjoyed. It is a work of art.

Don't really get all the Christianity yap, this in itself is just a Hebrew myth from the Torah, New Testament came later as a weird retcon DLC. Old Testament Yahweh was more of a eccentric stubborn personality with weird flexes like that all the time. He sure claimed to be the creator, but is most often portraited as one of several legit gods, just very powerful. The movie called him out on leaving his clan to suffer for generations, and Exodus implies heavily that he PURPOSEFULLY MADE pharaoh more bitter, just to prolong the punishment. Sidenote; check out the Book of Job, that shit is absolutely unmoral and insane.

TLDR; Old Testament God was a whole other beast and this movie doesn't have to be "Christian" in any way

Honestly suprised no one said it yet but here's a fun fact for you. Prince of Egypt was being animated at the same time as Shrek. Any animators who's work was not good enough to work on the Prince of Egypt was sent to work on Shrek as a punishment. Also Moses exists in the beyblade universe and he split the sea with a beyblade.

Yes!! I was one of the many people recommending this movie. It's a beautiful retelling of the Moses story and one of the few religious films that can be enjoyed even without having a tie to a particular religion. The music, art, and especially the animation was gorgeous the whole way through, and it still makes me a bit teary here and there.

    .

On the note of The Bible But Anime, the only thing that came to mind was a comedy called Saint Young Men in which Jesus and Buddha share an apartment in modern day Japan. I've watched a lot of it a long time ago, and I recommend it strongly since it's hilarious (it's pretty much exclusively a light-hearted comedy).

Fun fact: the scene where Moses parts the Red Sea took the animators 2 years to animate. THAT ONE SCENE TOOK 2 YEARS!!

If I remember correctly the reason Moses spent 40 years in the desert was because when they reached the promised land it was occupied by a large people. Rather than trust in God the people were afraid and didn’t want to enter, so as a result God had them wander in the desert until all those who refused to enter the promised land died.

There are some Bible anime actually. From the eighties and nineties, there's series like The Flying House, Superbook, and In the Beginning: The Bible Stories, and then more recently there's stuff like the My Last Day short film. Not exactly reaction material, but just kinda lowkey neat to know exists. Honorable mention also to the Manga Bible, made by a guy who also worked on Judge Dredd and then made a book called Batman is Jesus.

You don't exactly need to be religious to enjoy this movie. It's still a great animation and storytelling otherwise and as the others pointed out, it feels like it's more about retelling a mythological story rather than forcing a belief, hence why I love this movie so much (and the soundtrack is amazing!)  I'm not really religious myself, but I've been recommending you guys watch this for that reason :D

As a former Christian, I love this movie for more of an artistic and animated storytelling aspect than it being about Christianity. I also love it as a retelling of mythological events than pushing the “become a Christian” agenda. This movie has aged really well in terms of animation, effects, storytelling, and art imo.

i did find this loke ironic because in the bible it showed the consequences of having slaves but then american settlers used it against african slaves to keep them under control, just shows how easily people can manipulate religion to what they want

So for the plagues, they were direct attacks on all of Egypt’s gods. And the reason Pharoah caved at the last plague was because the firstborn was seen as the gateway and entrance to the afterlife. So now the Egyptians think they will never experience life after death, which is the most sacred thing to ancient Egyptians

One thing I find craziest in the story of Moses, is that The burning bush tells Moses that the Pharoah will not listen to his words because God will not allow the Pharoah to change his mind. So God just wants an excuse to kill people and wants to make Moses watch

Nah, truly one of the best animated movies of all time. The reason this was so heavily requested as of late is just because this movie is getting the love it deserves from the internet. It truly is a unique film.

"Maybe we're not meant to watch religious movies."

Y'all could just...not make everything a big joke? I get that you're not religious, I'm atheist as well, but you don't have to make the reaction "hahaha fuck god" the entire movie bro. I guess the concepts of faith, belief and redemption go over some people's heads.

Fun fact about the woman singing in the beginning, she actually sung her song in 17 different languages. Her voice actor sadly passed away in 2000, but the fact she put that much work in almost 20 languages for this is impressive and some other word I don’t even know how to describe

This is one of my favorite animated movies and probably the only adaptation of a christian religious story that I love. I was obsessed with ancient Egypt as a kid, and grew up with Baptist parents. The animation, the story between the brothers, and the soundtrack all come together so wonderfully. I also thought Tziporrah was hot  because I'm gay af 😂

I don’t believe they’re using real magic its most likely alchemy. Which can have real effects, such as making smoke and flashes of light. They slapped the staffs together making a flash which I think they used as cover to swap for snakes or the movie wanted to show real magic.🤷‍♂️
