1 other benefit of the chronological order is, you guys had time to remember 99 for a few seasons, so when he came back it was a pleasant surprise and someone you were happy to see again, and his death hit harder then. If you went regular order, you'd literally have met 99 in the first episode of season 3, and then the next one he immediately dies. Still emotional I'm sure, but nowhere as close as him returning much later on when watching Clone Cadets in the chronological spot.

canonically because of their faster growth i believe rex and fives and all the other "Adult" clones we see are around 9 years old so technically this is nothing but an army of child soldiers lol
