Yes. Although if you wanna get real specific, neither persona is the real version of either character. But the real Clark Kent is closer to Clark Kent than Superman and the real Batman is closer to Baman tthan Bruce Wayne.

Morph is entirely unrelated to Mystique, though his powers are similar. He is a shapeshifter with low to mid level telepathy who can turn into other people. His shapeshifting isn’t as broad or flexible as Mystique’s, but unlike Mystique if the person he’s shifting into has a power derived from the physical properties of their body, he can mimic it to a degree. He was in the original show, but was “killed” in the first episode only to be found in the final or second to final season.
Basically the original show and ’97 episodes are all based on comics storylines. But the cast of the show is not always the same as who was in the comic, hence the adaptations. But I’m pretty sure every important episode of the original and new show are based on comics.
