  1. Critical Role episodes go well over 2 hours, it’s closer to 4. They do do one-shots and shorter series that are more accessible for ways to dip your toes in, they just may not be set in Exandria or have Matt DMing. (I love their Monster Hearts game.)

A shorter live play I like is Dimension 20 on Dropout.tv though they also have some things on Youtube, their episodes are indeed 2 hours long and I find them easier to keep track of, and they’re good friends with the Critical Role crew. High Rollers is another one where I think individual episodes may be shorter and the DM is friends with Matt & the CR gang and has DM’d a My Little Ponies game for them once and played a guest character in CR Campaign 2.

  2. Maybe you guys should check out Crap Guide to D&D by Jocat. It’s a series of short videos giving a quick rundown of each class of Dungeons and Dragons and some other elements of the game, also pretty funny.

  3. it brings me no end of joy to see you guys react to vox machina and as a critter for 7 years now i was so excited for this show to come out. and fun fact this show was crowd sourced to be made and they reached 5 million dollars in 4 days and ended the 30 day campaign with 11 millions dollars.

  4. Critical Role is the reason I started to watch YouTube at 1.5x Speed. Watching it at damn near every meal helped make it feel like something manageable.

  5. Yeeeeees i love that you finally watch The Legend of Vox Machina ^^ I acctually startet Critical Role accidentally with campaigne 2 and am whatching it since. I am happy to see Campaigne 1 at least as a animated series because the whole campaigne is so much time to cover. Believe me I tried. One episode is between 3 – 5 hours long and the first Campaigne has like 115 episodes. Its massive! But that said I hope you guys enjoy this series as much as I did.
Also a fact: They announced that Campaigne 2 gets an animated series as well, so i can’t wait to see how that turns out *-*

    1. Yeah I came in sometime during campaign 2, and since I had a desk job, I could basically listen to all the episodes uninterrupted for like 8hrs a day. I’m pretty sure it took me like 4 months to catch up to the live streams, watch all the spin offs and one shots, and then I finished C1 sometime during the early days of Covid. It’s a massive investment.
And the amount of excitement I have for Campaign 2 getting animated is off the charts! They’re my favorite! ♥

  6. I’ve been a Crit Role fan since the part of the campaign that season 2 covers. The satisfaction of being a long time fan of this series will likely only be matched by being there for the conclusion of one piece in terms of being rewarded by following media. It so cool to see the adventures I listened to while cleaning dishes in the back of a restaurant and as I (unsuccessfully) attended college now presented in the media form that I originally knew the actors from. It just feels very full circle.

  7. I’m so glad you’re watching this!! As soon as I saw it I just knew it’d be right up your alley and was kinda shocked that you hadn’t watched it yet! I really hope you watch through season 2. It’s just soooo good.

  8. btw Marisha Ray who voices Keyleth based some of her backstory from Avatar how she have to travel the world to complete her Aramenté witch is basically “mastering all 4 elements” (even tho there are more than 4 “elements” in D&D)

  9. I would absolutely LOVE to see the reactions to some of the actual play. Maybe some comparisons of the scenes in the show vs the actual scene in the original campaign

  10. Also, some of the BG characters are literally just Matt Mercer (both his face and voice)… like the guy who got peed on in episode 1, the weapons closet check in, that guy pushing the cart, etc. So that’s a funny inside joke for those who know. He’s like their own Adventure Time snail kind of ?

  11. Since we are getting into Percy’s arc I would like to tell this now, Talesin Jaffe who plays Percy in the show and in the campaign is an actual Lovecraftian entity. The man is absurdly lucky. The amount of Nat 20 (the highest possible roll you can get) he got in Campaign 1 is insane. So whenever you see Percy do some absurd damage that’s probably Talesin using his cosmic powers to roll a Nat 20.

  12. Great stuff, two big things: 1. Doors are the natural enemy of vox machina. Like it is well documented their wars against doors. There is a legendary one that you will see and yes it was as funny as it was in campaign.

    2. Ashley Johnson, the voice of pike their cleric was filming the show blindspot during campaigns so they had to write her out of the story alot. There was never really an in game, but they did it here to explain why she was gone in show. They do some reworking with the story later on so it’s not a carbon copy of what happened in campaign, but it does add to the story and still makes it amazing.
