So it’s been a few times now that Gumball has definitely parodied/referenced actual songs in pop culture, so I wanted to sum up a list of what I’ve seen at least so far:
• I Will Always Love You – Whitney Houston (from this current episode with Rob)
• Lovin’ You – Minnie Riperton (from the Halloween scam episode where Darwin is imagining life with Carrie)
• The Lonely Shepherd – Kill Bill Soundtrack (from the episode where Gumball and Darwin are petsitting the class hamster and he’s awaiting death while facing the sunset)
• Mii Channel Theme – Nintendo (from the “what is love” episode where the narrator explains what biologically happens when humans fall in love and it ends up being gay)
• You’re the Best – Karate Kid Soundtrack (from the episode where Nicole competes in a mom-off with Tobias and Banana Joe’s moms..I could be wrong about this one tho)
• My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion (from the episode where Gumball and Darwin serenade Mr. Robinson about mourning him moving away, also not 100% sure about this one)
Feel free to drop others I might have not noticed 😁
Also the scene where Gumball is holding up the boombox for Rob sounds music referencing 90s R&B boy bands like Jodeci or Boyz II Men but I can’t identify a specific song they might be parodying lol
The wildest thing is that when i saw “The Uncle” when it was on Cartoon Network most parts were changed because of how most scenes looked a LOT worse than they really were. I think the one i recognised the most was 48:16 – 49:45. That whole part was definitely not on the CN version. But its cool to still see the original
