Shadow was originally going to stay dead, but fans loved him so much Sega was kinda forced into keeping him around so he did survive falling back to Earth. You should really do Heroes next, followed by Shadow The Hedgehog, then Sonic 06 to learn about Silver
Hey guys, if you are interested in more sonic stuff to watch I would strongly recommend adrenaline dubs IDW sonic comic dubs on youtube. They are probably the easiest way to digest the comics and the production quality behind the dubs is fantastic. There is even a playlist by a user called "Uhhhhhh" that has them all in chronological order for easy viewing. It's an unusual suggestion considering you guys mostly do animated stuff but I think you would enjoy it if a spot opens up in your schedule.
You guys should watch Sonic X It's an animated show that basically adapts Sonic Adventure 1&2. for the most part anyway

Something that will be common for quite a few games, they usually split the story up into different campaigns. So this game is the Hero story and the Dark story. Sonic 06, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Adventure 1, all of them have a bunch of campaigns to connect the story
