   The sleep episode is evidence that the wording of the wish doesn’t matter in the slightest. Even as a kid it bothered me that Timmy wishes that they never HAVE to sleep and everyone gets tired and cranky. We have to sleep to stop that from happening. If we don’t have to sleep then we wouldn’t get tired and cranky. The affects of the wish don’t make any sense!

      Not having to sleep, isn't not needing to sleep. People NEED to sleep so as to rest and recover.

         In that sense, since the wish is they don't have to sleep there is nothing saying that they can't sleep at all, so if they feel the need to they should still be able to rest. Basically, the wording is off no matter how you try to spin it.
