My problem with them removing things like Sokka's sexism, Katara's motherly tendencies and making Aang focused on his goal is that they didn't replace it with anything. You end up with hollow feeling characters that resemble the thing they're based on without having the heart to back it up.

This show is definitely much better than the movie, however, I hate how useless Katara is in this show. The whole thing of Katara's personality was that she was very caring WHILE ALSO being feisty and stubborn. It seems like both in this show and the movie depiction that Katara is only a caring character and has no anger for anyone. Which doesn't make much sense since in the animation, Katara held that anger for Zuko and the fire nation for years for killing her mother and all the other waterbenders in her tribe.

I'm never gonna like this as much as the animation but honestly emotional to finally watch a live action that isn't trash

So far, the important moments are done really well, but there's too much hamfisted exposition dumping. A lot of telling, not showing. I hope it'll get better going forward.

I'm a little confused as to how Boom was wondering if the man Sozin killed was Iroh's son. Like Iroh during that time wasn't even born yet since it was 100 years earlier. Iroh's father Fire Lord Azulon might not have been born yet or was a little kid.

I guess since they didn't directly establish that he was Sozin, Boom thought maybe it was set at a different time.

I had to pause the episode multiple times to scream and move around my living room, because I got overwhelmed with emotions and chills by the epicness!

I also waited to watch this with you guys because I was scared! LOL
So far, so good. I'll always have my tiny nitpicks, like... "did we need another teenage boy in the Southern Watertribe?" or "I'll miss the Gyatso went out metal AF by sucking all the air out of the room and taking every fire bender down with him speculations"... but otherwise, I'm ready to see where it goes from here!Â

I'm going to be worried and skeptical of this show since the original creators left the project and then the showrunners changed sokkas character development from him becoming less sexist after getting hunbled by the kiyoshi warriors into him never being sexist in the first place.

My only complaint. is Avatar Roku not Aang’s guide to give him knowledge of the Avatar State anymore only Kiyoshi and Yangchen are main source. and the acting barely ok. Episode 1 is a 7.5 out of 10 for meÂ

The start of the war wasn't pre Dai Li. Dai Li were established by Kiyoshi.

My only complaint so far is the reason Aang left being to just clear his head and come back, which feels much less impactful than running away from his home.

spoilers till episode 4; yeah, I also think this change kinda makes all the rage directed at Aang, at least from Kyoshi and Bumi, seem overly cruel

I hope the relationships in the show stay the same as they were. I know not everything can stay the same but I have a feeling they’re going to change things that don’t need to be changed which is normally what happens when they do stuff like this.but definitely exited and the creators left on both the movie and the show because of creative differences, which I completely understand to be honest I don’t think if I made a show as good as avatar I could see it being done as you would want it in live action
