I'm not really one equipped to discuss the idea of super heroes killing criminals, but I will say it's definitely a very slippery slope and not all cases in DC are as cut and dry as it may seem. Joker? Oh yeah I don't think anyone is gonna have qualms about him dying. But what about other cases, like a character like Mary Doll from Batman TAS, different continuity but same dilemma, I won't spoil much for in case you ever check out Batman TAS, but she is genuinely one of the strongest arguments for why you shouldn't kill villains so readily. Some cases of villainy in DC or even Marvel are just people that need help. Dealt bad hands or forced to be what they are. (Key note SOME, I ain't even gonna try defending folks like Joker. Lol.)
I don't think it's a spoiler to say the Apocalypse stuff is definitely not the focus of the season or this arc. They are ramping up the Apocalypse stuff bc the focus of this arc of this season is Rocket and The New Gods (the direct enemy of Apocalypse. The main focus is in the name of the season, The Phantom Zones & Superboy. I know you guys loved Apocolypse War but that's not what this season is gonna be about.
lol a bunch of us knew the Razor stuff was gonna throw yall off. He's from the Green Lantern Animated Series that was coming out at the same time as the first two seasons of Young Justice, set in the same world.
The way I see it, its still setting up for Apokalyps stuff because, now its showing you the New Gods' side of things in New Genesis, High Father and High Mother adopted one of Darkseid's sons and they have a non-aggression truce with Apokalyps that keeps them from interfering with each other despite Darkseid's dealings with Vandal Savage and the abductions of the metahumans. Orion and Vyken even said in these eps. that New Genesis won't be the ones to break the truce because NO ONE would want that war. So its not like they're suddenly injecting more people, more like they're adding key parts to the Apokalyps stuff. There are times where it seems chaotic since a bunch of stuff is happening at once though, but with the comics too, sometimes it doesn't make sense till they show how it all connects.
And for those wondering- LANTERN RUNDOWN:
Green- Willpower, can make constructs out of anything they can imagine. Space cops, usually one per sector but with a bunch of stuff happening, at some point they set up TWO per sector to have them working in partners. Earth has a number of them and that's often confused people as to why so I like that the first ep here brought it up.
Yellow- Fear. Rings go to people who have the capacity to instill great fear. Yellow Lanterns are also know as the Sinestro Corps. since he was responsible for the rings' creation and founded the corps.
Red- Rage. The ring ACTIVELY hurts the people it wears, causing them pain and inflaming their anger. They usually don't have the mental stability for contructs so most of the time, it's energy blasts and breathing hot plasma at people as they try to maul you. If you watch the Green Lantern Animated Series, it will show you the origin for the Red Lanterns for this world. In the comics, removing the red ring most often results in death.
Blue- Hope. Blue Lanterns have more passive abilities and can heal people. If a blue lantern and a green lantern are in the same vicinity as each other, blue lanterns power up Green Lanterns immensely and Blue Lanterns have access to creating constructions like a GL does in return.
Violet- Love. These are known as the Star Sapphires. They recruit people with great love or are in love. They used to enemies of the GLs because the Star Sapphires would trap whomever they were in love with in crystal to keep them safe forever rather than lose them. The first iteration of the Star Sapphire crystals in the comics drove their hosts crazy before they were forged into rings to be more manageable.
Orange- Avarice(Greed). Another one that drives people insane. Turns their greed up to 11 to the point they won't even let their be other orange lanterns, however, they can imbue their constructs of people or past orange lanterns with a level of sentience or personality.
Indigo- Compassion. These rings were actually created by Abin Sur, the lantern who died and released his ring to Hal. He made them in secret because he didn't like the idea of imprisonment without rehabilitation and he had been consumed with the vendetta of capturing the person who murdered his daughter. Indigo rings actually force themselves on CRIMINALS, supplying them with a new sense of compassion and empathic abilities- which fixed the sociopath who felt nothing torturing and murdering Abin Sur's daughter, and she became the first Indigo Lantern, taking the name Indigo-1. Indigo Lanterns can sense others emotions and borrow the powers of other lanterns they are near.
Black- Death. Pretty much an entropic force in the universe than wants it to end. It resurrects your loved ones as Black Lanterns to make you hesitate and then when it senses your emotions, it consumes them and your life force to kill you.
White- Life. When you were asking if there was anyone who had all of them, this would be it basically. A few got selected to be White Lanterns for a bit to stop all the black lanterns.
That's the base nine, but if you want to be technical, there are also Ultraviolet Lanterns who were pretty much treated like they don't exist and when it was discovered that they did, oh boy, things sucked for a bit.
I think the reason I personally like season 4 more than 3 is relation to random superhero cartoons I watched as a kid. The Green lantern animated series and legion of super heroes were kinda really niche series that never really had broad appeal or reached large audiences. Season 3 is way more original and self contained than 4, ultimately whatever style is more fun is personal. I truly just want an adaptation of Blackest Night in any medium but Green Lantern doesn't sell and sheer amount of background knowledge would sink any project so that aint happening.
I really hate what they did to Lor Zod. He originally was Superman's first adopted son Christopher Kent
Yes to this, one of the things I loved in the comics. But there are a handful of villainized versions of him in the comics too. I just wish they'd stop leaning so heavily on it and give us Christopher back Q~Q
I genuinely think the reason most people didn't care for season 3 is because lots of people found Brionne and Forager irritating, and after 6 years since the cancellation after season 2 their expectations for the revival were insanely high. Lots of characters form season 2 were sidelined, fan-favorite comic characters were introduced but barely touched on. SO much of the season was dialogue and drama for characters that we never met meanwhile THE TEAM tm, barely features at all.
I remember enjoying season 4 a lot more week to week, each arc features an original member of the team, so it's building more off established dynamics rather than building a new team from the ground up for a fourth time. And yet it seeing in through y'alls eyes it is very meandering and unfocused. It's too much all at once. These episodes feature Rocket's inability to cope with her son's needs, leading her to misjudge Orion, the ongoing Superboy in the phantom zone plot, The lore dropping of The Legion of Superheroes and their Fight with Zod's empire, Forager on Forager action, the return of a character introduced in the cancelled Green Lantern show {(fan-service for a character that you have absolutely no connection to), BEAST BOY'S THERAPY, war negotiations between the League, the Lanterns, and New Genesis, Bart Allen introducing a cosmic treadmill which is a time-travel device used by speedsters in the comics, Metron's shit, Zod Mantis and Ma'alefa'ak pulling a Heist on Metron's shit, oh and it's Jay Garrick's birthday. Hooray!
I would still rather watch season 4 than 3, but i absolutely get why y'all aren't vibing with it. Keeping up with everything is a tough ask for non-comic readers and even if you do that it switches gears constantly before you get to enjoy any momentum
It’s so wild sometimes what the young justice writers will assume their audience will just know like razor is only from the green lantern show there’s no comics so he’s like a total mystery unless you look him up and the amount of times the writers will just name drop a person or location and just hope you are already familiar is crazy
Or you could see it as them introducing you to a new character without taking an entire episode explaining there backstory or long exposition. You want to know much, look them up.
I feel so bad for Beastboy and the green lantern stuff is continuing from the Green lantern show with the Razor character he had a whole arc in that they wanted to continue here
It’s really funny hearing your discussion at the end because you heard so much about season 3 being the weakest season and season 4 being a step up or whatever. The reason you guys likely heard that about season 4 was because it focused more on the OG cast, discussion on this show has to be taken with a huge grain of salt because it’s impossible to tell who’s actually being objective or letting biases from the early season dictate what they do and don’t like
The box and Mantis part, in your video pause at 47:07 you wil see the seal of krypton on box plus Metron says this box marks the seal of krypton, that why Mantis know which boxes to find the phantom zone projector. In your video watch from 48:45 to 48:55 pay attention on the boxes all of them has the seal of krpton so Mantis open all the boxes with the mark that how he discovered the phantom zone projector.
So the green lantern stuff is a continuation of the green lantern the animated series show. The show is assuming you've seen that show since they were on originally around the same time
if a person masters all lantern rings those rings merge into a white lantern ring. Kyle Rayner accomplished this for a time.
the razer stuff is a continuation of Green lantern the animated series which this episode makes canon adjacent to young justice (meaning events similar to those of green lantern the animated series occurred in the young justice timeline but not exactly the same due to contradictions between the two continuity wise)
Season 4 if you haven't noticed is a collection of the original teams arcs. We started with mganns, then Artemis, then zatanna, then kaldur, now it's rockets after that it's nightwings then finally superboys
If you take the first letter of each episode title and read it out loud you will see what story line they want you to follow.
The green lantern stuff was a continuation of the gl animated series
The plot line with Razer is basically a conclusion to the Green Lantern Animated Series that aired alongside Young Justice season 2 that was also cancelled.
Yeah so fun fact ep 19 and the subplot of Razor,is essentially an epilog for the green lantern series that aired alongside young justice back in the day,and it got canceled.
Razer is from the green lantern animated series which followed hal jordan kilowog and razor who was a red lantern as they traveled the galaxy
