  1. Great insight about Steven. I am a therapist who has a therapist. Honestly, most therapists do have their own therapist (or has at some point) because if we’re not at a healthy and self-aware place, we could potentially be a detriment to our own clients.

  2. I get the whole point is that you can’t always expect life to go how you thought it would. But Lars and Sadie not ending up together will always be weird to me after everything they’ve been through.
And for Sadie to get with…Shep, ugh

    1. The fact that Lars and Sadie don’t end up together after 5 years of ship baiting only for an off screen drift apart would be like if we had 5 seasons of Garnet existing only for Steven Universe Future to start and Sapphire and Ruby have drifted apart and Ruby is going to Texas to be a cowboy while Sapphire has been fusing with this new Gem, Amber, for the past couple of months, but we only find out about it 5 episodes in.

I’m partway convinced that Shep was created because the Sadie/Lars chemistry outshone every possible other Beach City teen’s compatibility with them, that they had to make a new character to fill in that role. (and since Shep is a new, character we’ll make them non-binary for inclusion’s sake. Even if they only show up for 1 episode and have like 3 lines, they can say they had representation)

  3. I completely forgot that when this episode aired, we were in the first COVID lockdown. Pearl handing out toilet paper was funny for a much different reason than intended lol. Now that people aren’t hoarding TP and clearing out store shelves, the comedy hits a bit different

  4. “Looking Forward Now” is actually my favourite Steven Universe song of all time. It’s so good.

Also, when Future started airing, it was during a period where I was really really down on my luck, so when I saw Steven’s breakdown at the end of In Dreams, it really stuck with me and kinda solidified my love for Future. Can’t wait to see y’all watch the rest of it!

  5. I know Future is kind of controversial among the fanbase, but I absolutely love this series. I’m just so glad you all are enjoying it as well, and really understand what Rebecca Sugar and the Crewniverse were going for with it. Future doesn’t have the breadth of ideas that the original series has, but it’s much more focused and goes even deeper than what the original show with many of the issues it does bring up. I cannot wait for the next episodes.

  6. Oh man I missed this drop! In Dreams is my favourite episode of future because I’ve been both Peridot *and* Steven in this scenario, I can EASILY get so excited and passionate about a project that I don’t realize how worn down everybody else is, and on the flip side I’ll work myself to death on a friend’s behalf to make them happy. Both are bad extremes I needed to work on a lottt. Also I love how this episode’s board artist draws P-dot c:

  7. Heads up, there are Steven Universe shorts in existence. They aired around Season 3 and Season 4, if I remember correctly. They’re fun bite-sized videos–none of which mention therapy–but they’re cute if you guys are interested in them. They also feature some more Lion.

  8. Seeohknee, I also moved in with my dad for psst 2 years to help him after his stroke. Then a worse stroke happened and he was in physical for a bit. I helped along with my mom and sister. He passed this February and now I’m in working to get back out on my own. Now I’ve been trying to think more on what I want out of life. I know how you must feel.. I wish you the best dude

  9. Man, every new power just totally makes sense. Gems are solid-state supercomputers and Diamonds all have the power of astral projection. So of course they’d interfere with broadcast technology if they got out of sorts. That explains why the record player scratched to a stop when Greg yelled at Rose that one time.

  10. I just remembered everything that happens in the next 8 episodes…its pretty packed…I’m glad you enjoyed the happy episode in this bunch…because it’s gonna get heavy. ?

  11. I really feel for Steven with his friends leaving. I was stuck being the kid that had to leave the group. I started off with friends my age but I had to move schools which separated me from my friends for the first time. The place I ended up was tiny so they combined the years into the same classes. 1+2, 3+4 and 5+6. I had to start year 4 at the new school and made a small group of friends who were a year younger than me. When I moved up a year I got separated again but at least we had lunch together. Then I eventually had to move on to year 7 which was highschool and I was alone again. Luckily one of my friends from my first school found me in highschool and adopted me so I had a friend again and made friends with her new group. Then the teachers decided there were too many kids in each class and rearranged them part way through the year and I was alone again. I always got more quiet after each separation and lost my ability to make friends somewhere along the way so I was alone in all my classes every year after that. Shit sucked and I’ll never forgive the adults in my life for screwing up my social development like that.

  12. Kind of sad you guys didn’t react to Steven responding to the kid who said that his mom gave him stress by saying his did the same. ?
Also it wasn’t the kindergarten that Steven saw in his dream but Spinel’s Injector.
Anyway, the next 8 episodes are going to be ones you all will love! I can’t wait to see the reactions to them ?
(Also Steven was 14 when he saved the universe, just a reminder)

  13. I’m really glad you guys are enjoying Future, I love it dearly and it really solidified Steven as one of my favorite fictional characters. It’s very relatable in the case of ‘Who are you outside of your trauma? who are you outside of all the time you spent caring for everyone but yourself?’ It’s one of the only series I’ve watched that addressed these very specific feelings I’ve had with kindness and tact.

  14. 26:20 Behold! The bane of watching this on TV when it was airing. “Now that I’ve saved the universe, I can finally party!” This was the bumper for every commercial break for the ENTIRE show, all the way through the ending. There is no single line in the franchise that annoyed fans more than this one, just because CN repeated it so damn frequently.

    1. Craig McCracken (creator of Powerpuff Girls) was asked on Twitter about why he decided to come in for a reboot. He responded, “I pitched 12 original shows and they all got rejected.”

Fun Fact, the Camshafts song was sung by Zach Callison, VA of Steven. Also, Steven Universe premiered in 2013.

The next batch of 4…oh boy. Honestly, I’ve been looking forward more to the next 4 than the whole series.
