Anybody else call Jacques Schnee, "Jacq-ass" Schnee

I would like to point your attention to an earlier episode! When Weiss has her heiress title revoked, Whitley was outside the door, listening to the whole conversation (and most likely the slap from Jaques to Weiss). We see him for a split second after the door opens, his entire lil' shit facade down, looking distressed, before he sees his father and pulls his lil' shit mask up again. As Whitley's walking away, and is pursued by Weiss the exchange that pops into my head between them is this; Weiss: "You've never liked Winter. You've never liked ME! But you've been nothing but supportive ever since I came back! Why?" Whitley: "If it's a crime to support/care for my big sister, I suppose I'm guilty." (I can't exactly recall his line but it's something to this affect) Weiss: "You WANTED this to happen... I can't believe you." Whitley, dropping his lil' shit persona: "It's foolish not to do as Father asks." Whitley, his lil' shit persona back again: "Don't worry Weiss, the Schnee family name is in good hands."

This exchange said EVERYTHING to me in regards of Whitley's character. He has to hide his genuine feelings behind snark, or else he might get reprimanded be Jaques, and he KNOWS what Jaques does to those who defy him. Plus, we don't even know if Whitley even WANTED to be the heir, since every interaction with or about him has been in conjunction with Jaques (immediately showing up before or after a Jaques interaction/scene, showing up WITH him in a scene, or even being mentioned by Weiss in conjunction with Jaques "You're more like family to me than my brother, or even my own father.") It's masterful directing, since the audience now directly ties him to Jaques, seeing him as an extension of Papa Schnee. Just like how Weiss sees him.

TLDR: Whitley's lil' shit persona is just a facade to keep Jaques happy enough not to hit him. Weiss saw Whitley as an extension of Jaques rather than her little brother, and the directing/writing helped the audience see him that way too, until now :)

I love the 180 when they realized whittley has been through every Weiss did with none of the support or talent to escape.

I think the Schnees represent the four types of fear responses when it comes to Jaques and the trauma they've endured from his abuse.

Winter represents fight, responding to him with an aggressive outburst

Weiss represents flight, distancing herself from him as much as possible

Willow represents freeze, afraid to leave and instead distract herself with alcohol

Whitley represents fawn, eager to please to avoid further abuse

I never thought about it like that, But now that you say that it makes allot of sense.

Never heard of fawn as a fear response before. Neat!

I feel Weiss and Winter are the other way around. Winter fled to the military (flight) and Weiss took Jacques test (fight) to go Beacon.

Weiss saying she’s not staying with her mom is sad, but Willow being glad she isn’t hurts.

Thank you for acknowledging that bad stuff could also be happening to Whitley. It's most likely he's being groomed (not romantically, obviously) into his own fathers role. His older sisters abandoned him, and aren't nice to him (albiet he isn't nice to them either, but he's also a kid. He's gonna be an asshole.) It's easy to say he is very much Weiss pre-character development. He needs push, and he needs support, just like she did.

I really hope in the future we get even more with him, because what we do get is great! He is one of my favorite side characters.

Can't edit: I never really understood the hate for Whitley initially, because he's really just kind of a little shit and doesn't actually DO much other than be kind of pompous lol

Something interesting. I’m not sure if it’s intentional, but episode 8 kind of showcases how each of the Schnee family members deal with their abusive environment. The mother , Willow escapes through drinking.  Winter represses her emotions because anytime she lets the out Jacque uses them against her, Weiss had a good support system in Team and friends and so was able to heal and move to an extent and Whitley just does what he thinks will please his father. You notice how he blamed Weiss for Klein sent away which makes sense since he was probably the last person in the house he could turn to and he also seems to try to stick like glue to Weiss whenever she’s around.

Now you've met the entire Schnee family. What I love about this family is each of them represent a different way to cope with abuse from Jacques. Willow is Freeze, Winter is Flight, Weiss is Fight, and Whitley is Fawn. That's why Whitley acts like a Jacques junior at times. He's trying to protect himself from the abuse by appeasing his father.

I LOVE HOW QUICKLY YOU COME AOUND ON WHITLEY!

That realization was so hard for a lot of people!

That scene between Wiess and Willow is one of my favorites!

HERE WE GO! Offical confirmation that Penny is in fact TRANS!

So Penny's Aura- basically her soul- is her father's.

Penny is also based on Pinnochio- a story all about a doll trying to be "a real boy" so the trans parallels don't stop at just her aura being that of a man's originally.

This is why we consider Penny a trans Icon!

This is why she is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction along with Madoka from Madoka Magica and Akko from Little Witch Acedemia!

That's more of a head canon thing. None of the creators have called confirmed she's trans. I've seen people call Nora more of a trans icon give she wears the colors.

Nora is a headcanon thing that I don't agree with at all

        Penny is outright confirmed

Allegorical and on a technical level she fits as a trans narritive

Where is it confirmed? Like the writers confirming it? Because never in the show is it stated that Penny was once a boy and then chose to be a girl. Pietro never said he had a son but now has a daughter. Allegorical a lot of things can fit a trans narrative. But that doesn't mean they all do. The whole real girl thing, in the terms of this narrative, is Penny doesn't see her self as real as in a human. But just because she is mechanical doesn't mean she isn't. She has a soul. That's what Ruby said way back in V2. It's just that Penny has to believe that. Just because Pietro's aura is male, doesn't mean Penny was born male. Pietro aura simply powered Penny's body where she formed her own ego. If there was some text or some character that would say Penny was born a boy, then I would agree. But nothing like that was ever said or even hinted at. So if Penny woke up the first time and identified herself as a girl, then she was born a girl and didn't transition.

but it is still head canon couldn't find anything that said otherwise

That seems like a reach though since she was female it really doesn't matter where the power is. Its good to have trans characters but Penny doesn't really fit it.

She does though... her entire arc is about what it means to be a "real girl"

In an allegorical sense it is a trans narritive

In a technical sense her aura was originally a man's

This is still head canon, though. It wasn't "officially" confirmed as you said. There's nothing wrong with interpreting a story and characters differently but this IS still head canon. I don't think people would really be arguing if you hadn't specifically said it's officially confirmed.
