You guys mention Ironwood doesn't ever seem like an explicitly bad guy, but rather just struggling to get by with the situation.

It's never explicitly stated in the show (the writers revealed at RTX 2020 they originally were going to mention it in Volumes 7 or 8 but never felt it more important than other plot points) that General Ironwood's semblance is Mettle which strengthens his resolve and allows him to carry through with tough decisions in addition to hyper-focus. We're beginning to see the stress this can also have on him given the situation with the Fall of Beacon and Salem. He's constantly fixated on solving the issues he sees at hand.

All projectile weapons use dust as gunpowder doesn’t seem to exist in Remnant, however most specialized dust types cost a lot which is why the others don’t use them most as often and rely on the more common types used in standard ballistic ammunition. Weiss being the heiress to the SDC gave her access to harder to acquire dust types and her weapon is specifically designed to use dust without firing bullets. Violet of team CVFY uses a weapon that relies on the incredibly expensive and harder to acquire hard light dust for her projected weapons

Very good explanation. I never really considered the value of her weapon beyond the effort she put in to making it and the amount of weapons she had stored in it, so this comment gave me a new perspective that it's far more than just time and labor. That thing costed insane amounts of money.

Not gonna lie, I laughed at the racist comment. Another example of the amazing eye for detail the guys have completely missing something.

Dust literally runs all technology in this world. Weiss family isn’t the only one who mines and refines it to sell it either. They simply are the biggest group that does so

I’m sorry, I’m gonna say this every time a new RWBY is posted: Qrow is so fine and I would gladly be Ruby & Yang’s new Auntie any day 😎

Not a Spoiler - Ironwood falls into the category of “Impossible for the audience to fully trust”. He’s the type of character where no matter what good they do, everyone is thinking what’s the catch? I can’t exactly put my finger on why so many of us felt this way at this point even though he’s given no reason for us to think so. If he were a new character, then it’d make sense not to trust him. But he was around for seasons 2 and 3 and was overall helpful and gave the students an out when things got real. Anyone got an explanation for this? I’m usually on top of these kinds of evaluations but this one stumped me.

Its the sudden progression that they all see. In the early volumes he is an ally, but they didn't see how Ironwood wanted to just take his army and raise Mt. Glenn to the ground. Ozpin had to talk him down from extreme action. We saw Ironwood slowly getting more aggressive in V4. Sure it was toward Jacques, but Ironwoods threat was basically 'I have two seats on the council, and the other ones will listen to me because they are scared. I can do what I want'. He was starting to throw his power around by closing the borders and turtling up. None of the girls (except what little Weiss my have overheard) are aware of this. They are only aware that Ironwood helped them during the fall. But then they show up to Mantle and it's basically a police state. Grimm randomly getting into the city. Constant propaganda from Ironwood and Winter. And constant soldiers and Knights patrolling the city. It's a very iffy look for somebody what that much power. Especially with the power of a military. Plus they are still reeling from the trust they lost in Ozpin and almost lost in Qrow. They are not just blindly going to trust the higher authorities anymore. It's really smart character writing.

going back to examine his scenes with Oz (obviously b4 the fall of Beacon), and some of his comments both about Cinder's hack, and to the students and others at the fall I can see things that would contribute to this but I think the main things at this point would be (spoiler free up to 7x4): his scenes in the intro, the look Qrow gave him when they met in the office during 7x2, and most clear Weiss' reaction to the ships set up aggressivly, the strict rules in Mantle along with bad conditions, and the change in Winter's personality but in the broadcast and in the office scene in ep 2

I'd say it's not because of any particular in-show in that way, but moreso that he's the ruler of a highly militaristic society with obvious disparities that commands a powerful military and fully closed its borders. Most of the real life audience has a bit of an intrinsic distrust of anyone in that position, so I think we'd distrust them even if one were to substitute Ironwood specifically for Jacque or Winter or Ozpin or anyone else. It's just fundamentally hard to trust "it's been a bit since you've seen you, and now you've closed your borders, lined up all your battleships in attack formation, and are doing big screen broadcasts all throughout the city on loop," especially since he's been shown to be growing more disheveled over time.

    Everyone uses dust.

As every single shot of any weapon is dust powered. (Or Nora's grenades) Even their scrolls are powered by dust

And of course this is the point where Jacques finally confirmed that he has only half a brain. I guess that explains the clip on tie ;)

until 7x4 the dust used by the main cast is- bullets for normal weponds such as ren, ruby, or blake's guns, to power Yang's bike I'm assuming, and ruby's powered up shots such as her electric bullet/s. During this episode we see Jaune has now added the use of dust by having a gravity dust shield smash! Super cool!!
