the thing about the anime is that rick and morty started as an episodic sci-fi type adventure show, and picked up anime along the way without sacrificing the writing. The Rick and Morty anime failed because the writing felt too generically anime to be rick and morty. kind of like a soulless cashgrab. I don't know if it's good or bad on it's own merit, but it's bad RaM.

The anime wasnt made by the same people who made the show, which is likely why it feels so mediocre

Which is sad cause the creator of the anime is really talented and the anime shorts he did were actually good

"why does Gene have bullet proof shielding on his tractor?"
Because he's Rick's neighbor.... I mean Wouldn't you Rick-proof some of your stuff just because you live next to him?

So yeah. It's very noticeable in these first few episodes that the people who had to dub over roilands voices had a bit of a struggle. Especially considering he voiced like 70% of the characters if you include the background ones

I had 0 hope for the anime and tried to give it a shot. And its bad, lol. It's something that should have worked, but it didn't. It just doesn't feel like Rick and Morty at all.

Rick in Jerry's body killed himself because anyone but Jerry having to deal with being Jerry would do so. Jerry in Rick's brain couldn't manage operating Rick's various bits and bobs despite having the knowledge and intelligence to do so because no one thinks the way Rick does.

I think the anime failed because it didn't do any of the comedy from Rick and Morty. It wasn't that the jokes didn't land but that they didn't make any to begin with. It missed the mark on what Rick and Morty felt like and the whole tone of the story felt like it was just some boring story trying to make things more interesting by throwing in Rick and Morty characters.
