   c-137 is who they think rick was because him and Morty killed them and took there place, we don't fully know our rick but it's believed we generally follow the same one, and the universe he started in wasn't his original one either I believe.

   again, we are ALWAYS following the same Rick and Morty. to my knowledge, give or take 1 or 2 eps that are very obviously about other R&M's , we are always with C137. this is their story, not just any old Rick and Morty.
