    I prefer the rock cover of Make a Man outta You. I prefer Mulan's ending in the Sui Tang novel,but it would have been too dark. It'd be mulan and her sworn sister are executed after the war.

       In the original Ballad of Mulan she returns home and reveals she is a woman to her comrades who compare her eyes to that of a man's declaring there is no difference. I. The Novel after the emperor discovers she is a woman he demands she become his concubine and Mulan commits suicide over her father's grave in defiance.
