Didnt mind this movie but definitly prefer the original, some changes in here were good, I liked the modern take and the ending made sense to me but was not a fan how they did the alien characters on earth and this version didnt feel like it had the same heart put into it. I prefer How to train your dragon remake over this, but still had an entertaining time.

I think this movie was pretty good -i think a lot of hate is from people hearing that 'nani left lilo behind and that goes against the original movie' and it just snowballed from there - and I do love the extra info on Nani is amazing cos she's an awesome character

I don't think im at all qualified to talk on the issue, but from what I heard is a big issue is the cultural/political history when it comes to the US government splitting up and separating kids from their families in Hawaii, which is an extremely tense and complicated topic with lots of historical trauma going on

again, I'm not qualified to talk about it at all - I'm not from Hawaii, but Australia had a similar thing with the Stolen Generation

I cant see any other big enough issue to qualify this much hate tho - i get being annoyed at changes, but this is a live action *adaptation* and of course theres gonna be changes xD

As someone who grew up without their parents, the original felt like it gave myself and other kids a voice that adults could understand. The original hit the hard topics straight on. This one was a decent movie, but felt like handholding too much. Nani’s story is a great focus but feels too child focused for its presentation. I wish they hard done more to show the seriousness of the situation. The original had more raw emotion to it. While they killed the acting, the writing felt too loose.

I don’t care what anyone says, giving up your baby sister to the state is just fucking stupid and goes against the entire message of the original film. She literally leaves Lilo behind.

Also them casting Courtney B Vance as Cobra when Ving Rhames IS STILL ALIVE was a dumb casting choice imo

hat's not what happened though see gave her to the neighbors which is a family friend and someone that will probably end up being her boyfriend in the future. Talking about she leaves Lilo behind when the movie literally ends with her and Lilo sleeping in the same bed because she's able to transport to her at a moment's notice.

I love how Sean Immediately recognized Tia Carrere, The original Nani VA,

But they also had two other original cast members too [Not including Stitch which is the same VA]

They had Amy Hill [Mrs. Hasagawa in the original] Return too, She plays Tūtū, The best Character

And they had the Original David VA too [Jason Scott Lee] He's the manager of the place that gets lit on fire, He fire's Nani at of the scene

Just because people disliked things you enjoyed, does not mean they don’t have valid reasons behind those criticisms. I don’t want remakes and such being exactly identical to the originals, but I also don’t like when remakes have changes from the originals that stem not from artistic intent, but rather to be different for different’s sake alone (which is how I see and feel about the vast majority of changes made in this film).

Also, nothing in this movie even approaches the quality of the original; animation lends so much more personality to everything in it, especially the characters and their actions. I get so much more out of the original and how they animate the characters as opposed to this movie, which must bend to how reality actually works (at least when it comes to the actual humans in this, but even the cgi characters here are forced to be “more realistic” in order to fit better with the realism — and budget — around them, thus limiting how they can be animated). This and every other live-action adaption of animation is an insult to the very medium of animation itself, and further propagates this absurd idea that animation is at all in any way inferior to live-action (which is almost funny when you consider that animation can do literally anything live-action can and far, far more), allowing travesties like this film to happen.

I’m glad you all enjoyed it (better that than having a bad time), but please don’t just assume [all of] those who don’t have no valid reasons for disliking it. The extra Nani stuff would have been nice if they executed it well (which I feel they didn’t, and also clearly wasn’t well thought out, as why does she leave Hawaii when the U.S.’s best marine biology school is located in Hawaii?), Jumba is utterly ruined as a character and this more villainous version of him simply does not compare to either the original nor to the original movie’s actual villain (also, no, he’s not supposed to be an evil scientist, just a mad one, and no, “evil” and “mad” are not the same thing), and this movie just fails to understand the point of the original and what makes the animation of the original so integral to how that movie worked so well. Lastly, many Hawaiians take offense at specific changes this movie made, which I feel is extremely valid and should not be ignored as haters who don’t like change. I could go on, but I really don’t feel like it, as I honestly doubt any of y’all will care or change your perspectives on these live-action abominations (just as none of you seem to care how damaging movies like this — especially when they do this financially well — are to the animation industry), and so am mainly writing all this out of frustration and some offense at your comments at the end of the movie.

Nobody's taking offense to what they said at the end of the video and if by some chance someone is you need to reevaluate yourself and learn what to take seriously in life and what not to take seriously.

Clearly they and the 15 people who liked the comment did take offense. Also there’s no need to be so rude and condescending. You’re literally projecting onto this person and telling them they’re taking it too seriously, but you’re the one who apparently feels it’s necessary to comment under almost everything critical of it.

Imo agree with most of this.

For me its a good movie - but a bad "remake" as it is claiming itself to be, as it changes entire plotlines and characters + motivations from the original. Doesnt mean the movie is bad - its just not a "live action remake", its an adaption sure, but not a remake. (especially so when some characters in the core, mainly Jumba, is changed to such an extreme he aint in the movie anymore at the end)

For me it made perfectly sense with him being a "mad scientist" in the original animation, as the movie(s) and show, showed him redeeming himself, from HAVING BEEN evil, to CHANGING to become good, and taking responsibility for the consequences of his actions.

Just because you get on the internet and claim this isn't a live-action remake when it literally is doesn't mean it isn't. Literally the only significant difference is that Jumba doesn't stay and Nani doesn't stay but the entire storyline plays out exactly the way it did in the original aside from those two details that had no impact on the outcome of the story.

You clearly didn’t watch the whole video where they stated a disclaimer about being accused of what you’re accusing them of. They said if you disliked the film, good for you. You just sound dumb with your novel of a comment. Freaking keyboard warriors bro

Their comments at the beginning fail to mean anything when their comments at the end come in direct contradiction to those at the beginning. Did you even watch the whole video until the very end? And I sound dumb for being a writer, for knowing the craft of film and animation? Being able to clearly and concisely spell out my thoughts and address the issues with film as well as my opinions on them makes me dumb? No, those who have to call others names in lieu of anything actually constructive or useful are the truly “dumb” ones. But hey, sure, whatever you need to tell yourself “bro”. Maybe go back to the hole you crawled out of, ant.

Except he's not talking about what they said at the beginning Sean and rough literally bring up toward the end of the video after they're talking about the people that complain just to complain that if you're someone that has valid criticisms that's fine. There was no reason for you to leave that comment you made you're so high and mighty you just couldn't help yourself. And it made no sense.

I find the hate of this movie so stupid espically compared to the HtTYD remake. When you take a good movie and make no significant changes to it and it's still a good moive *mindblown*. When you take a good movie and change things to update the message and change the dynamic and tell a different story its a soulless cashgrab. Is the new HtTYD bad, no but it was a pointless cashgrab (that I did go to see in theaters with my nieces and nephews). Is the Remake of Lilo & Stitch as good as the original? No but I apreciate them making changes to attempt to justify a new movie.

I literally finished Lilo and Stitch a few minutes before you posted. I liked it actually. Human jumba was iffy for me, it felt like most of what he says is ADR.

Taking Ganto out was necessary it would have added too much if they wanted to keep it short. Love the returning actors for supporting roles. I like they kept in realistic and didn't have cobra pretending to be the actual social worker.
