Im not sure if I first watched this before or after my acceptance of my sexuality (definitely around the same timeframe), but holy shit I had a huge ass crush on that world’s dr ock. And this just reminded me of that
Fun note, Japanese Spider-Man and Super Sentai (the source material for Power Rangers) were both done by Toei (whom you may know as the company that animated Dragon Ball/Z/GT/Super/etc). Toei did Japanese Spider-Man in between the second Super Sentai JAKQ Dengekitai and the third Super Sentai Battle Fever J (which was originally going to be a Captain America show IIRC). Japanese Spider-Man adding a mech proved financially beneficial to the toyline, so that's why Super Sentai added a mech starting with Battle Fever J, with Battle Fever Robo.
Another fun note, Stan Lee wanted to do what would become Power Rangers back in the early 80s, but nobody believed in his idea, so he had to give up on it. Haim Saban would later try to do the same thing starting in the mid 80s with the same lack of interest until he went to Fox, where the head of Fox Kids Margaret Loesch happened to be the person who worked with Stan Lee to try and make an American adaptation back in the day. So, that's why we got Power Rangers.
