I would love to see you're reaction to the sequel of this movie, and I want to recommend the Fox and the Hound. Underrated Disney animated movie. Never have i cried so hard, especially at the youngest age where I shouldn't understand but I understood.

Even a lot of people who love the other films from the less successful Disney eras (Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Bolt, etc.) seem to crap on this movie (at least from what I see online), which I've never understood honestly. It's not perfect but I really do love it and find it very powerful

Disney doesnt make movies like this anymore because they prefer cheap and fast cash grabs like bad 3d movies, awful live action remakes, and horrible shows where they insult the fans.

And this isn't even one of the better Disney movies

Yes!!! I love this movie always, with just a tiny bit of native blood I was invested the second I saw it and even more so as they explained legends and spirits. I even thought my nana looked like Tenana lol. We even had the dvd but we always played the quiz that told you what your totem was. My brother got guidance (eagle), my sister was wisdom (wolf) and I got the bear every single time! But I'll always love the spirits emerging scene with the accompanying music, breathtaking!

Joaquin Phoenix is the voice of Kenai and I also find it symbolic how Joaquin lost his brother, River, at a young age. So he has a connection to Kenai and his loss of his brother.

I don't think there's good logic behind why we don't still get new 2d animations. I think it's just a classic corporate safe move. When 3d came on the scene it was huge, and it continues to consistently sell. I think the corporate heads just don't want to risk trying to revive a medium that practically died out. So they play it safe and lean into live action remakes lol

This is one of Disney's most underrated/underappreciated films, alongside Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet. If Disney had just stuck with making movies like this, it would've been the golden age of Disney, but they didn't think they were getting enough returns and abandoned it.

I this film in theatres back in the day 😎. It seems that people either think this movie is one of the weaker films in Disney's line-up, or that it's one of the best and underrated. For me, I do like it and think it's good, but I also see the flaws people point out such as: the plot being a little generic, some of the animal voices can get grating, and the song coming in during the scene where Kenai is telling Koda the truth may not work very well compared to if the had used the musical score instead.

However, the designs and animation are great to look at, the music and songs are wonderful, the message is profound, the characters and cultures are all likable, and it is neat or refreshing that the story manages to not have a villain just a misunderstanding 🤔.

Lastly, this movie was also probably overlooked due to 3d animation at the time taking over and 2d films weren't doing as well 🤔.

Such an underrated movie, some might say it was the underdog of its time seeing how much effort they put into accuracy of every little thing even sounds

I think Marketing didn't do enough of a job when it was about to release in Cinema's as Critics or most Critics didn't like the movie at all, and I know my Brother and I loved this movie it was soo good. But it wasn't as popular as the other Disney movies. It eventually became a favourite cult classic but still most people didn't like the movie. I loved this movie I'm so glad you watched it <3 <3.

Joaquin Phoenix, who voiced Kenai, lost his brother in real life. According to the director, when they were recording Kenai's reaction to Sitka's death, Phoenix's performance was so raw and intense that much of it had to be cut for fear that it would upset kids too much.

By the time you get to feature movie length, 3D is probably cheaper than a 2D animated movie and can get churned out way faster which means less time from investment to payment. And if you have a multi movie series or tv show then the price and time disparities gets even larger.

It's one of those movies that I remember being relatively popular around the time it came out and then it just disappeared, but then again I was like 7 or 8 at the time so it may just be me misremembering its popularity because I watched it ALL THE TIME. I love that movie a lot. Breaks my heart every time.

Btw theres actually an artistic reason that the aspect ratio is so small in the beginning, basically its supposed to represent how small and closed minded Kenai is at this point and once he wakes up as a bear the aspect goes to normal to symbolize his world expanding. Fantastic movie
