It sounds like they started it already. Honestly, it isn't completely necessary. There are only a couple of references they might not get.
I really hope they do watch it. It may not be “strictly necessary” but it DOES expand the world in some really interesting ways. And I genuinely loved S1
ngl pretty disappointed after all the talk in the update video about actually finishing franchises yall are just straight skipping gen v im sorry i cant be a member anymore
Doesn’t seem we’ll get Gen V at this point, but hopefully they watch it outside of the channel, it really does expand the world, explaining what’s going on with normal people and how the Supe-Human relations are doing in the wake of Starlight v Homelander. Along with explanations for how Victoria’s powers work.
As someone who didnt realize Gen V S1 came out before The Boys S4, there were a few scenes i was really confused in, a recap might help but its a great show, hopefully itll be on their docket at some point!
@patreon_102310255 This is a wild swing. They haven't been told enough that Gen V is important. Saying that you can't be a member anymore because they don't understand that a spin-off is important is weird.
That said, just the mention of not knowing what the "virus" is after this first episode reaction shows that Gen V is needed to understand what is happening in the world of The Boys.

I thought they didn't introduce the virus until later in season 4. It's been a little bit of time since I last washed it, so I didn't realize that they even referenced it until it actually comes up in the show proper.
I know it came up in gen V season 1 first but I didn't think that they bring it up in the boys until later in season 4.
I believe they confirmed that they will not be watching Gen V.
@roskuel tbh I get the frustration, and while I wouldn’t go as far as unsub, I do find it disheartening that they didn’t realize just how impactful Gen V is. Despite not directly propelling the main plot, there’s so much context & character development that’s only available when watching Gen V. (Creation of the Supe Virus and how Butcher got it, Victoria’s Origins, Red River exploration, Homelander’s impact, Edgar ‘s whereabouts, Stuff with Sister Sage, Translucent’s son, etc.)
What I don’t think gets stressed is that since both season 3-4 & 4-5 had two years in between them irl, with each year a Boys season wasn’t out, Gen V would take its place, and naturally fit into expanding the series. Losing that is like not watching part of the show then asking why so much is different 😕
When we get to certain scenes that are intentional payoffs between both shows, they’ll mean nothing if it’s not seen and I find that more than just Sorta Stupid.
Sorry for dragging the conversation, but it actually sucks watching y’all watch The Boys right now just because there’s so much shit that’s going over y’all’s heads and context yall aren’t watching the show with. Small example, the first five minutes of episode two were a reference to Coach Brink from Gen V. I’m not trying to force conformity, watch what you wanna watch, its just that the reason I watch y’all’s content is because you guys like to discuss all the cool little details in movies and whatever, and yall skipping so much just breaks the whole vibe. I’m still a fan of course, I enjoy the hell out of the Crew’s reactions, but this was disappointing and I wanted to voice that.
Again sorry for pestering or dragging the convo.
