Seeing the sexism of the northern water tribe explains Sokka in the first few episodes. If he wasn't exposed to the other cultures he probably would have grown up to be the same way.

Exactly. This is something the live action series and movie failed to produce. Sokka has one of the best arcs as a character in the entire series. He starts off a sexist who believes bending is just kiddie BS. He is also a subpar warrior and leader. As the series progresses his fighting skills, instincts, philosophies all evolve. He also turns out to be a good tracker and quite brilliant when he's put to the test. He starts off as a joke but ends up just as much a hero as anyone in team Avatar.

Honestly the live-action series could have gotten away with taking out Sokka's sexism. I kind of doubt anyone would have noticed if they didn't make a big deal about taking it out before the show came out 🤔.

The Airbenders were nomads so they attacked the temple which looks like its made of some kind of stone and then hunted the nomads down.

regarding the old guy acknowledging that she is a good water bender, it's a pretty accurate parallel to real world bigotry. Bigots are always incoherent, it poisons the mind
