Initially the director wanted Gi-Hun to go all out and be am emotional wreck when he found his mom but the actor was like no, he's tired and destroyed. He can't react and process so we got that scene

funny enough, rewatching that scene you can see an empty and open bottle of water next to his bed meaning yes, pretending to piss the bed was a tactic he used to gain sympathy.

Gonna be real. Sang-woo is probably my second favorite next to Gi-Hun. I remember people getting so mad at him but I had a hard time because of two things:
1.) He was genuinely feeling guilt and regret for shit he was doing. Like, you see the guilt and contemplation as he gets darker and more willing to do whatever it takes. He almost broke down after betraying Ali.
2.) I would've done the same. If I had the debts and reputation he did, with my mom and such at risk, not to mention my life is on the line. I would have done the same. I think most if not the majority of people watching this would've done the same too, and they know that. Why it makes people angry because of the sheer relatability of his actions. Why him and Gi-Hun are such good contrasts of the two major extremes.
3.) The secret and most important reason, old man yaoi.
