Wednesday S2 Episode 1-2 Reaction
This been great things are heating up, jester is definitely my pick for this show my favorite already.
The ruby is voiced by the same person as tiana from princess and the frog
Campaign 1, 2 & 3, Vox Machina, Mighty Nein & Bells Hells respectively are all set in the same world of Exandria, Campaign 2 was 20 years after campaign 1 ended, campaign 3 was like 10 years after that.
Campaign 1 - Vox machina was popular & got Critical Role noticed worldwide, but by the time word had spread there was already like 80-100 hours of content so ppl didn't necessarily want to go back & catch up, so when Campaign 2 (Mighty Nein ) started every1 who hadn't been watching started with the fresh campaign so a lot more ppl saw it and it is a lot of ppls favourite.
Campaign 3's later half ended up being a combination of all 3 sets of characters, so the characters do meet eventually. A lot of ppl say the story telling wasn't as good but it was hilarious to watch live having them meet their own other selves and play multiple characters at once LOL.
Fjord - (Travis Willingham) is also Grog (and Phenomoman in Dispatch)
Jester - (Laura Bailey) is Vex (and Invisigal in Dispatch)
Caleb - (Liam O'Brian) is Vax
Knott - (Sam Reigal) is Scanlan
Beau - (Marisha Ray) is Keyleth (and Brickhouse in Dispatch)
MollyMauk - (Talesin Jaffey) is Percy
Essek - (Matt Mercer) is the campaigns DM (also voiced Shroud the bad guy in Dispatch)
Yasha - (Ashley Johnson) is Pike (not gonna be in the first season much because Ashley was still busy acting quite abit when this campaign started so was missing a lot.)
Hope this helps! :D
if we wanna mention their roles on dispatch, sam reigel is sweet talker, ashley johnson is brainbrook. I don't know if liam and talesin are also in there.
Honourable Mentions :
The Bright Queen - Lucy Liu (Charlies Angels/KillBill)
Trent Ikathon - Mark Strong (Kingsman / Shazam)
Dairon - Ming-Na Wen (Agents of Shield / Mulan)
Gustav - Alan Cumming (Traitors/Nightcrawler in Xmen)
Sabian - Robbie Daymond (Now a cast member of campaign 3 & 4)
Toya - Auli'i Cravalho (Moana)
Marian (Jesters Mom) - Anika Noni Rose (Tiana in Princess & The Frog)
Deirta - Anjelica Huston (The Witches/JohnWick3)
Cptn Vandran - Tim McGraw (Yellowstone)
King Dwendle - Graham McTavish (The Hobbit Trilogy)
A lot of their characters in this campaign are a direct response to how they felt about their characters in campaign 1. Travis really hated that Grog was so combat focused but useless in a conversation, so he went with Warlock. All the martial players with the exception of taelsin (at first) went to casters, and vice versa.
2 years is an average length campaign mighty nein ran for 3 years so its not that long in the grand scheme of things. for example vox machina including the time they played before stream 1 was about 4 and 8 months long
The first 2 episodes were stuff that happened before the campaign, they are adapting some of the backstory of showing how certain pairs met up. Episode 3 of this show is technically where the campaign started but adapted to fit the medium. It's a very different perspective watching this show since the campaign only focuses on the main PC characters.
Fun fact when in the hall of mirrors and you see Fjord's and Jester's human reflections those are their VA's Travis Willingham and Laura Bailey
noticed that too, was very funny!
I knew that Laura was gonna be equally perfect in animated form. But watching Jester like this is just so much fun. Genuinely one of my favorite characters in fiction. (Not that I’m not also wonderfully excited for everyone else).
"Fjord Stone, built Fjord tough"
Funny you say that, because one of the most famous jokes from early Mighty Nein streams is when an NPC asks Fjord if he has a last name and Same Riegel (Nott) says "Tough" and breaks the whole table into hysterical laughter.
Just so you know Beau is a woman
I'm so impressed with this show so far. Vox Machina was good, but Mighty Nein is soooooo intriguing. The animation is definitely a step up, and I'm glad that they assumingly got more funding for this one.
jester's voice actor is Vex from vox machina and fjord is the grog and they are married irl. that great-sword barbarian lady from the end of the first episode is pike
Laura Bailey is the voice of Jester, and she voiced Vex in Vox Machina. And yes, the abundance of penis is her inner 13 year old wreaking havoc on Matthew
I'm not sure they'll explain the whole rebirth thing in detail in the animated series, but basically members of the Kryn Dynasty that are "consecuted" (I've always likened it to baptism) in the faith of the Luxon have their souls stored until a baby is born nearby where that soul essentially gets recycled into that new infant. They remember their past lives around 15ish, or early puberty in a process called "anemnesis". For the sake of the show they kept Dierta's design the same in the flashback, and most of the time they come back the same race but not always. The Kryn Dynasty is primarily drow, but other more commonly seen as "monstrous" races are common as well.
Fun fact, Jester saying "Backdrop with a little boat and fireflies" might be a nod to Marion or "The Ruby of the Sea" (Best Lay ever) being voiced by Anika Noni Rose, or Princess Tiana.
I can’t help but trust Dairon because she’s voiced by Ming-Na Wen who is Mulan
Oh snap, so yall haven't watched the campaigns? For some reason I was under the impression you had... Yea you're in for an adventure this time. VM was a fantastic story they told but M9 is something made with an audience in mind and with a more thought out story for most characters since the campaign was being shown from session 1
So to clarify, for campaign 1 "Critical Role" was a show on the channel Geek & Sundry, and they were basically just a bunch of friends in a bedroom having fun and learning the game, it had a certain charm to it and got people interested in the show. Then for campaign 2, the production value upped immensely, they got a whole set and everything. However about a quarter of the way through the campaign, Critical Role became it's own brand and split from Geek and Sundry. Which was around the same time they started the Kickstarter for the Legend of Vox Machina animated series, which did insanely well and you've seen where that led. NOW Critical Role also owns a publishing company called "Darrington Press." Darrington Press is responsible for every comic book and board game that CR has put out, including two TTRPG's. Candela Obscura, and the newest one Daggerheart. Many fans thought that they'd use their own new system for Campaign 4 seeing as Campaign 3 was the culmination of 10 years of playing Dungeons and Dragons. But to manys surprise they stuck with D&D for C4 and instead introduced a new Dungeon Master (Brennan Lee Mulligan), and five new players at the table. And now C4 is running alongside their second animated show Mighty Nein based off C2, and I would not be surprised if a "Bells Hells" animated show based off C3 is coming in the distant future. I know this comment is long winded but I hope it clarifies some things for the newer CR fans here in attendance.
Ha nerd! Haha, no I'm kidding. What's your opinion on campaign 4? I like that Matt get's to play, but I do miss him as a DM. All the characters are great, but I just have trouble adjusting to the more guided type of Brennan. And he does say a lot of uhms when he's speaking, which annoys me, but I think that's just a me problem. xD
So anyone familiar with this is Nott telepathic its bugging me how half the time her mouth moves and the rest it doesn't.
When you see the bottom half of her face being white with red lips, it's a mask made out of a porcelain doll's face, because Goblins usually get attacked on sight
She does have the sending spell. But I think you mean that when she sneaks she sometimes just speaks to Caleb? I think that's just people aren't paying attention and he knows what to look for when they are trying of of their scams. Caleb has a high passive perception in the game and just a villager npc normally doesn't have a stat higher than 10.
Nott often puts on a broken ceramic mask to cover her goblin features.
Are you talking about the mask she puts on when in public/talking to strangers, or are there scenes where her mouth doesn't move even with it off?
Mighty Nein takes place about 20 years after Vox Machina, and it takes place in Wildemount instead of Tal'Dorei, they're separate continents in the same world, Exandria. Wildomount is also where Silas and Delilah came from.
Also, you got most of the voice actors right, Jester is the only one you got wrong (unless you guessed wrong for Mollymauk, I'm commenting part way in) Jester is voiced by Laura Bailey who played Vex in Vox Machina.
the humans in the mirror when Fjord and Jester walked by were their voice actors
Haha, their love is on the internet for generations to see! And also a lot of dicks.
the "human mirror" showed their actors
Marion is Princess Tiana! From Princess and the Frog!
and toya is voiced by moana!
Both Vox and M9 take place in the world of Exandria, but on different continents
Holy shit I just found out the captain at the beginning is Tim McGraw
Yay, I have been excited to see your reactions for this one!! So far they are green lit for season 1 and 2! So if this does well they will get more! The Mighty Nein is definitely their most popular campaign, and a lot of peoples favorite. Campaign 1 (vox machina) and Campaign 3 (Bells Hells) are also good. But, a lot of people love this group and story beats.
There are are easter eggs with the mirrors. But the human reflections are their voice actors: Travis and Laura.
Also the same main cast is playing the members of M9! So they are all there!
Vax -> Caleb
Scanlan -> Nott
Keyleth -> Beau
Fjord -> Vrog
Vex -> Jester
Percy -> Mollymauk
Pike -> Yasha
Essek + many random characters/back ground characters are played by Matt Mercer (their Dungeon Master for their d&d games) he did a similar thing with characters in Vox.
Grog -> Fjord***
They started the kickstarter campaign to animate LOVM while playing the Mighty Nein.
They should react to CR's reaction and thank you videos. It was so cool to see the community coming together like that and make this possible. It felt like some companies saw what happened, saw what fans want, what they could do and adjusted their point of views about broadcasting a little bit.
Awesome, excited to see this come to life
Campaign 1 was roughly 2.5 years(115 eps), not including the pre-stream home game, campaigns 2&3 (141 & 121 respectively) were around 3.5 years each.
A dispatch binge would go so hard
100%
YESSSSS! ive been waiting! ^=^
