Favourite season is season 8, for me, but I'm definitely in that camp of just being exhausted by all the RWBY smacktalk. Like my friend group is constantly saying "I don't hate RWBY, I just see all the ways it could have been better" Which isn't better. Then there's the loud crowd that parrot review videos without knowing what any of their words actually mean. Because let's be honest, most people don't know what they're talking about. You get a small population of like actually intelligent and researched individuals who point out legitimate flaws in things, they do a long video discussing their personal opinion and they're very informative, I respect these people. But unfortunately you then hear snippets of their opinions echoed by the unwashed masses who generally have no idea what their opinion even is, but they use the talking points to shit on anyone that does know what they're saying that happens to disagree.
Yes Jaune is a bit of a self insert, sure the fights aren't as good, okay maybe some plot threads were abandoned along the way. Fine, real points against RWBY, but it's easily still a 7 out of 10 show. It's not perfect, but it's quality, and is so the entire way through. Honestly my least favourite volume *is* the first one because altogether it's like 45 minutes and if we could go back I'd love just more slice of life school adventures with comedy, extend the runtime by like two hours and call it a day.

Dad is a beast... lifting that whole floor. Also love that when walking out of the house, he had a guardsman, and fang member on either shoulder. I love a character (especially a moral one) that actually practices what he preaches.

Volume 3 is definitely my fav season overall, just love the way it wrapped up all that had come to that point but Volume 6 has my favourite moment which at time of writing this comment you havent gotten(or at least posted in Diamond) to it yet so im so looking forward to when I finally get to see you all get to a certain scene

My only problem with volume 4 and some of volume 5 is that it felt like the animation was still pretty of floaty (way more in volume 4 than 5). After that, it feels like the animators got used to the software, and it feels like the characters fight with proper weight again. My favorite volume may be volume 6 for the story reveals, ice flower moment(s) (including the last few frames of the V6 opening), specific "new" characters, and a particular grim situation that really scratches the horror itch.

There definitely was a sense that I had as well when I watched Volume 4 that the animators were really trying to get a handle on the new software, considering just how huge a tech jump it was going from a janky software like Poser Pro to an industry standard like Maya. Especially when you compare between Volume 4 to Volumes 5 and 6, you can really tell they were getting used to it and getting better at doing not only fights but also the smaller more subtle animations. Vol. 4's character animation feels more stiff compared to 5's, and the fights especially there's an immediate jump in the quality of them.
It's kinda like when you look the animation/visual quality of Volume 1-3, how Vol. 1 looks super rough and often janky, but by Vol. 3 it had gotten a lot more fluid, detailed, and the animation felt a lot more natural to it. Same with them using Maya.

I don’t think this volume is bad, but this is when I looked back at what I have liked about the show, and this was the least of that. There are certainly things here to like, and it may objectively be better than, say, volume 1. Even so, I think this is when I felt like it wasn’t “Rwby” anymore

Its kinda hard to pick my favorite season of RWBY. 3-4 probably have the most nostalgia value for me. V6 has BOTH my TWO favorite episodes of the series, but then also something I really wish had been handled different, and then everything since Volume 7 has been a solid 8/10 for me overall, rather uniformly.

Monty was an absolute genius in regards to fight choreography, like, that's actually what he was hired onto Rooster Teeth for, and he had an amazing idea for a story. But what Monty was not great at was writing, so he handed that off to Miles and Kerry, Monty had a general idea, and specific story beats, but they did most of the writing. Monty relied heavily on the "rule of cool" which is why power scaling was really weird in the first few seasons (like a handful of kids winning in a fight against a high tech military battle mecha) Monty was amazing at a LOT of things but writing just wasn't one of them. They've talked about it before in podcasts and commentaries, and a few other places, even Monty said it a few times before he passed. One of the main complaints, and why some people claim the show went down hill after he died, was that Miles and Kerry were "ruining" Monty's vision, but from day 1, they already knew where the story was going.
As far as what season is my favorite, honestly, it's really hard to pick because every season just gets better and better, I've been a fan since all we had was the red trailer and I've loved every second of this show. Volume 5 is actually pretty high on my list because I love the dialogue heavy set up stuff too, it's just hard to rewatch due to the funky timeline stuff.

I’ve thought for a while that the reason why things took a more story heavy approach with more of a focus on Dialog following volume 3 was the loss of Monty. That may seem obvious, but what I mean is that the first two and a half volumes were basically a vehicle to show the best fight choreography you have ever seen, and the rest was just kinda there to make that happen. But without Monty, they couldn’t rely on a rule of cool approach to storytelling anymore, so the entire focus of the series shifted to something that I think is more concrete but less visually stunning, despite the higher polish.

people problem with this season is it mainly the main characters is separated for the majority of the season and mostly talking i notice with people that watch shows and play games like this is wanting action none stop and a hour long episodes they dont like story jumping time jumping to different characters every episodes and just the characters just talking for the whole season witch granted i am with them i want that too but in shows and games like this you have to have those moments because if you just jump into action you dont know anyone or why they are fighting

Personally one of the reasons I'm here is because you guys generally see the positive side of things, and I'm glad you're digging RWBY. I really enjoyed 9, but if I had to pick a least favorite it might have been 8, so if that one feels rough I'd say stick it out to 9. But I did feel the initial annoyance with volumes 4 and 5, it just wasn't enough to make me stop watching. BUT, while I can't really know what drove most people off other than the folks who were only here for the fights, for me personally what made volume 4 and 5 rough was the episodic releases, because I was fine with them as complete volumes and they have such strong moments that make the buildup worth it, heck maybe the buildup makes it better. The shippers got pretty toxic though . . . as they tend to do.

My favorite season is volume 6. Seriously heavy lore and dark atmosphere mixed with a few lighthearted and bittersweet moments.
And you guys are right with the time difference between Blake and the rest of the gang. Blake’s POV is set two weeks before everyone else so that’s why it may seem a bit confusing. Volume 5 does get a lot of undeserved hate just because of how the pacing of events are.
While I do think it could’ve been done better if they had more budget and resources, what they did make is still incredible and still glues you to your seat. The combat is still eye catching, the storytelling and world building is gorgeous, and the character development is very relatable.

It’s nice to see reactors who are fellow “dialogue nerds”, it’s stupid but I sometimes get frustrated seeing people equate that aspect of storytelling as “infodumping” (half the time it’s not even that) and unnecessary. I think that’s why I enjoy y’all as reactors because y’all take time to talk about and digest that stuff (and tbh the fact that y’all are forgetful sometimes kind of adds to the fun LMAO)
