There is no negative to the bird thing. This is a power they were both offered and chose to accept in exchange for helping Ozpin with his war against Salem. Raven came to the conclusion that Salem couldn't be beaten(we don't know how she came to that conclusion) and abandoned her responsibility to help Ozpin. Then when she wasn't able to convince Yang to follow in her stead by sharing the basics about what she knows regarding Ozpin and Salem, she chose to manipulate the truth and paint it as if she was forced to take up that power against her will to try and tip the scales. You can see it in Yang's eyes when Qrow says they wanted it, she realized she was wrong and that Raven had been misleading her.
So here is my opinion on why what Ozpin did was bad, so at this point we know that Aura is connected to the soul and the maiden powers links to one’s aura so it can be seen as altering one’s soul to have this power. So you can see why Raven might not be like it.

Neo is the absolute stupidest character on the show. Like the girl has one brain cell.
Her character concept is so cool but a lot of people like her Just because of the sheer amount of gooner material there is of her.

I've always seen the downsides of the bird thing being less about the power itself and more about the implications of it. Maybe Raven felt pressured/manipulated into taking part in Ozpin's war against Salem, perhaps in a similar way to how Pyrrha felt pressured to take on the Maiden power.

People don't seem to understand what the problem with Ozpin's gift to the twins is. He gave them the ability to, at will, polymorph into a bird. sounds sick, right? But, you need to keep in mind the implications for Qrow.
Qrow's trauma centres around not being able to be around people due to his semblance, with his name even being derived from it. He brings misfortune to anyone around him, causing him to have a very lonely life. Also, he would have probably been heavily stigmatized by his own bandit tribe.
Ozpin's gift allows him to physically become a creature that has the infamous reputation as a bad omen. Pretty much, this ability ties into his trauma and is a painful reminder of what he's had to deal with since his semblance was discovered. To quote Qrow directly, "Did you know crows are signs of bad luck?"
Pretty much, Yang's animosity towards Ozpin in this instance is not unreasonable.
thats a hard reach. Theres literally no downside to being a bird, his semblance is the reason he stays away from others. no one cares about being a bird on top of no one knowing
I also feel like people miss a pretty big reason why Raven feels the way she does about it as well. But that’d be getting into spoilers.

weiss has one of my favorite character arcs in a show ive seen. shes so well written across these past few volumes its really cool.
For all her reputation as the Ice Queen, Weiss is without a doubt the most emotionally intelligent a perceptive of the group.
Weiss has showcased so much growth over these volumes, it is great to see again.
