  1. controls armies, and gets Elite Squadrons to capture rare Pokémon and auction them off for money. She hates Pokémon, and that is why she has none. She only cares about the money she gets for selling them. The only Pokémon she truly wants are
    Mew
     and
    Mewtwo
. She thinks that with their power, she can rule the Pokémon world. That is why she gave a mission to her best woman,
    Miyamoto
, to capture Mew and brainwash it. However, it would appear that Miyamoto ended up dying in an avalanche, while Madame Boss was succeeded by her son some years later.

  2. Basically Jessie and James decided that ashs pikachu was super powerful and valuable in episode 2 and dedicated their lives to capturing this pikachu in the hopes of impressing giovanni. They’re doing all this on their own accord, mostly using James’ rich people money. However there is a season or two of the anime where they became actual threatening villains before returning to comedic villains

  3. Charizards fire is too hot to go out in water. There’s been several instances in animation from both the anime and other shorts made by ghe pokemon company that had charizard fully underwater and the tail is still lit

  4. This may be a bit late, so you may not see it, but this special was on VHS, at least in my country. I think I saw it on tv once but otherwise it was on my tape that I watched it on. Back in the day my family had the first and third movie along with this special on VHS. As someone that isn’t as into Pokemon these days it is still good and great fun and I do enjoy watching these movies with you, even if I am not as close to this world as so many others are.

  5. So the reason why their always after ashs Pikachu is because early on in the anime they experienced the Pikachu before he was nice to ash fully, which they realized this Pikachu was abnormally powerful for a Pikachu far beyond what a Pikachu should be in terms of power, asks Pikachu could even generate far more electricity, amps, and voltage than normal Pikachus which intrigued Giovanni when reported by Jessie and James of this Pikachus existence hence Giovanni constantly sending them after them because he wants every powerful pokemon for himself which includes Pikachu as for why he chose Jessie and James is because their actually some of the most elite of team rocket no where close to Iron gauntlet or double 009 but elite enough to where they never failed a mission before ash so he trusts them enough with that mission especially since their usually the primary go to for capturing abnormally powerful pokemon overtime that trust diminishes because of the constant failures leading to jessie and James constantly trying to get Pikachu to earn his trust in their ability back especially since it was team rocket that accepted them for who they were when no one else did jessie lived in the wild pretty much where she wore rags and a delicacy was snow outside for food. James was neglected as a child born in a rich family who’s only friend was a growlithe who eventually died leaving James to run away because he didn’t want to be around neglectful parents anymore and moewth was a stray pokemon on the street trying to impress a female meowth but wasn’t interested in him but only in people which is why he knows how to talk trying to seem more human to catch her interest

  6. I’ve been a fan of you guys for a while but only recently jumped onto patreon because I’m a huge Pokémon nerd and am so excited that you’re watching these movies! I know it’s not likely but I really do recommend the series itself as well. It answers a lot of questions you guys have about the world/lore etc. and Pokémon has always had some super interesting lore imo. Ash’s Pokémon themselves are always as well developed as the human characters plus there’s some incredible battles and character development! It’s so satisfying watching Ash grow from a cocky little shit to a humble and capable trainer, and the friends he makes along the way are some staple characters in the franchise!
With that out of the way, I also wanted to let you know a little fun fact: Pikachu has his own language! Well, kinda. He’s got different combinations of his name that mean certain things! For example, “Pikapi” is Ash’s name, since in Japanese it’s “Satoshi”. Team Rocket is “Pi-pikachu” since I’m Japanese they’re “Rocketo-dan”. If you know these you can pick up on them through the entire series! He’s also got specific ones for Misty and Brock as well as some of his fellow Pokémon. Regardless I’m so excited for the reactions to these coming movies, they’re a great batch! I won’t spoil anything about the new traveling companions but they’re pretty iconic! Thank you guys for watching these movies that made my childhood!

  7. So the reason Jessie and James are after ashs Pikachu specifically is cause in the first like 2 episodes Pikachu with the help of others basically nukes a huge pokemon center out if existence so they chase after them cause of its potential

  8. I recommend the Uncut Story Of Mewtwo’s Origin special, its only 10 mins, but its really good it was a supposed to be in the first movie as a prologue, but they cut it out because it was too dark.

  9. Team Rocket originally didn’t want Ash’s Pikachu. In the second episode of season one, Team Rocket raids a Pokémon center. They specifically say they have no interest in Pikachu. But Ash and Nurse Joy hook Pikachu up to a bunch of electrical equipment to supercharge his attacks, defeating Team Rocket. They then assume that Ash’s Pikachu is special because….they’re stupid, I guess? I mean realistically they could just take any Pikachu, hook it up to machines and get the same result.

  10. Team Rocket Jessie, James, and Meouth first show up in the second episode of the Anime. They assault a Pokemon Center and introduce themselves and say they are here for the Pokemon, Ash worriedly exclaims “Your not getting Pikachu!” To which Jessie responds with disdain “Pikachu? We aren’t interested in your precious electric RAT.” James then adds “We are only interested in rare and valuable Pokemon” So no they weren’t interested in Ashes Pikachu at first, but during the events of this episode Ashes Pikachu ends up being such a force to be reckoned with that he BLOWS UP the pokemon Center with his Thunderbolt attack, like nuclear-looking pillar to the sky explosion of electricity. End credits scene of Team rocket plays where they are all floating away barely escaping from the mayhem on their balloon, Jessie says “Great, a cat losing to a mouse.” Meouth responds, “THAT Pikachu is no ordinary Pikachu” James adds, “It’s certainly very rare. A perfect prize!” and the rest is history ever since then Team Rocket has tunnel-visioned in on capturing Ash’s Pikachu.

Bonus fact Later on in the series I think it was the start of Gen 4 another Pokemon bounty hunter thief sort of character shows up, initially has no interest in Pikachu because it’s not a particularly strong pokemon generally, but then he sees it use the move Volt Tackle which is a rare and powerful move that most Pikachu can’t learn (Even in game, atleast used to be exclusively an egg move, they don’t learn it though level up) And then that Pokemon thief decided they wanted Ash’s Pikachu as well.

So yes, Ash’s Pikachu is actually exceptionally strong and rare.

  11. If I recall correctly, the Team Rocket Trio were just doing their own thing robbing a Pokemon Center the first time they ran into Ash. It was after that encounter that they became fixated on his Pikachu and started chasing it all over the place. Even as a kid, I always wondered why they didn’t just give up on it since they tend to be way more competent when they’re doing literally anything else.

Anyway, I’m glad you finally got to this one. It’s ironically one of my favorite movies for technically not being a movie at all? Yeah, I don’t really get it either. But in addition to Mewtwo being as badass as ever, I love seeing more of the greater Team Rocket organization and it’s one of the very few times Giovanni actually gets off his ass and does things himself. (Even if he’s still kinda just giving orders from a fancy seat. It isn’t until much MUCH later into the anime that he actually gets into a battle with Ash.)

  12. i dont know if yall can find it anywhere and doubt it be enough for a vid but there was a short they made to go along with the first movie called the birth of mewtwo that acts as kinda a prolog that gives more into mewtwo character and the scientists that’s really good that i remember watching more then the original movie lol

  13. I’m so glad you guys are doing the Pokemon movies, it’s been such a blast watching your reactions. Hopefully people will continue to support them, because it’s made me really look forward to my Monday nights.

  14. The show is based of the world of the games, not the games itself. The only thing that are from the games are the main charters. And major lore bits of the games.

  15. The next movie is going to not have misty in it. Future seasons of the show replace misty and Brock with other traveling companions. The show explains why they are in the show. Just except that after the next 5-6 movies, Brock and misty will be gone.

  16. Just to let you guys know James comes from a rich family like Ultra rich and he didn’t like that life so he ran away and Jesse’s mother was an elite in team rocket and that’s Canon by the way

  17. There is another special called Pokémon The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon.
There is also a Pokémon Special that focuses on Raikou called Pokémon The Legend of Thunder (however it does not focus on Ash and his friends, they are not in it. It focuses on anime versions of the Johto game player characters)
The whole baby Nidoqueen thing in the anime…basically the anime usually would add things before the game adds a special feature or things that just don’t fit. Like a baby Lugia…even though Lugia is genderless and can’t have kids. Best thing to do is just not worry about it.
Also not many of the movies are canon to the main series. The first one is with this special providing more evidence of that. And the Mystery of Mew movie is as well. I forgot which other ones are.
Also expect more changes in traveling companions in future movies like with Pokémon being swapped out.

    1. Baby Nidoqueen here seems to be a thing solely because it’s a baby of a clone Pokemon and they work differently. It seems that the clones can only have offspring that are like their parent: for example, if the clone Pikachu had a baby, it would be a baby Pikachu instead of Pichu.

  18. I hope you guys get to react to the backstory episodes of Team Rocket. There’s one about James called “Holy Matrimony” and one for Jessie called “Ignorance Is Blissey”. Also theres one that shows how Meowth learned to talk and how he met Jessie & James. I dont know the title of that one. The episodes are scattered tho. Not back to back.

    1. Yes yes yes! “Holy Matrimony!” “Ignorance is Blissey” “Go West Young Meowth” and “Training Daze” are really good team rocket backstory episodes!!

  19. Also I think they forgot that Charizard was at the Charisific Valley that ash left Charizard at to get stronger. That’s why he doesn’t have him in the movie at the beginning.

    1. No he is not
But In episode 2 ash’s mom pretty much said he went on an adventure
And also there is a TV special that came out this year and there we know for a fact that oak is not his dad

  20. The reason why Team Rocket wants the Pikachu is simply because it’s very strong for a Pikachu and that’s what Giovanni wants. Strong Pokemon. Giovanni couldn’t give a shit if its Pikachu or another strong Pokemon it’s just their obsession with it.

  21. Team rocket is actually pretty competent they just suck at dealing with ash and his pikachu. Thats why they’re always after it, they think it’s special. There’s an arc in a later season of the show where they’re ignoring ash cause they get actual orders from Giovanni and during this time they nail it, they’re surgical and precise.

  22. Your talk of Jessie and James made me think of some lore! The basic rundown is that they all come from sad and difficult backgrounds.

Jessie’s mother according to a radio drama is Miyamoto, she was a team rocket member sent to capture Mew but went missing on her search. She and Jessie lived in poverty, it’s referenced in a few episodes of the anime. One of them being that one of Jessie’s favorite meals is just plain snow shaped into food, because that’s all they had sometimes.

James parents were rich but he ended up running away from home after being engaged to a woman named Jessebelle, who was mean and also look’s like Jessie for some reason? Either way, he wasn’t very happy there.

Meowth’s backstory is actually talked about in one episode you can watch! Jessie and James tend to be spread out as far as I recall, but if you want his lore you should watch ‘Go West Young Meowth!’ It’s an excellent episode in itself too.

    1. Omg it would be so cool if they watch Go West Young Meowth AND Pokemon Chronicles: Training Daze! It gives so much more background to Team Rocket Trio.

  23. None of the movies are cannon except for the first movie, Heroes, and maybye a couple more, so if you are wondering about future movies, that is the reason.

    1. All of the movies up to Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel are canon to the TV series (although only one of the two versions of the fourteenth movie is canon). They are typically the equivalent of filler episodes, as Ash and his friends do not obtain, evolve, or release any Pokémon, and do not earn any Badges or Ribbons. Often, a movie takes place chronologically between the episodes between which it premieres in Japan.
I Choose You! establishes a new canon that is followed by The Power of Us and Secrets of the Jungle.

  24. Oak didn’t invent the Pokédex. Canonically the first Pokedex was created by Professor Laventon back in Legends Arceus, but there might be even earlier Pokedexes. He did pretty much invent the digital version of the Pokedex tho as far as I’m aware. Either he or Professor Rowan (The Sinnoh Professor).

  25. I was worried y’all wouldn’t react to Mewtwo returns, but thankfully you guys did!
It’s a nice closing point for both the first movie and Gen 1-2 as its the last movie Misty is apart of.

I’m a lil bummed that I have to wait another week for my second favorite and two weeks for my personal favorite Pokemon movie but alas.
It’s still gonna be a great time!

    1. I just remembered, there is another Pokemon Special, The Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon that Misty and Mewtwo appears in as well, along with May and Max during the Hoenn Region. After that, Misty sadly is pretty much finished
