This series was a celebration of pokemon as a whole and it came out 10 days before X and Y so it was also a fun little teaser for Mega Evolution in that last fight.

It’s not surprising that Blue beat Giovanni. Blastoise gives him a huge advantage being a water special attacker.

Doesn't Firespin increase firetype attackdamage? Also Blastoise wasn't full HP anymore at that moment. Furthermore, mega evolution was the new thing and I think they used it to promote the new games to an older audience (because this series does feel targeted at the original fans) but also to just make Mewtwo look stronger. I mean, he needed a mega evolution to beat one of the strongest "legendary" Pokémon and I thought it was kinda cool that they did. I wish this was longer and they included Green in this, I would love to see a first Gen revival show more close to the games with some of the newer stuff like maybe some next Gen Pokémon traded with trainer from other regions and mega evolution.

It was the ultimate cop out for them letting red use Mega Evolution when it wasn't introduced until way later generations. Meanwhile the writers take every chance they get to give Ash a hard time with his battles.

  Look when this came out. Mega Evolution was the cool new thing and this was a way to promote it. Also, it made Mewtwo look even stronger. He needed a mega Charizard to beat him. So I personally don't mind.

      It was literally part of the whole reason why they did this series, specifically as a way to introduce Mega Charizard X

wow, this show also really made me realize how terrible of a grandfather Oak is. Blue totally deserves to be pissed off that his own family doesn't care about him

  Not really, obviously lot's of context was cut out but Oak knew both of his two grandsons personalities and foresaw it.
  
  Also, the English is more finicky to watch than to the JP dubbed. It was more comfortable listening to it.

Mega Evolution was introduced in Pokemon X and Y, and they also added it to other Pokemon games that included Mega Evolution

    Why were Marill and Snubbull introduced in the Mewtwo movie? Why was Lucario shown in games and films that came before Diamond and Pearl? Why was Bonsly in Pokemon XD when that was a gen 3 game? Why did Zorua and Zoroark have their own movie before their generation even came out?
    
    We could keep going if you'd like. They introduce stuff early 'all' the time. The Kanto megas were already known before this came out, but this was specifically showing off Charizard X 'after' showing Y.
