Loved this series, admitedly last one I played was Valhalla, but the classics are some of my favourite games. The Desmond ones were great, Black Flag and Rogue with the ships was fun, Unity lost me a little with too much forced multiplayer if you were trying to 100% it but Syndicate was a lot of fun, palying gang leader. Origins and Odyssey were also good stories but I admit the RPG elements were not my favourite, I miss being able to kill bosses in 1 hit, if you approach it correctly. Valhalla also was fun, liked building the village and going raiding but it suffered a little from having too much to do. By the time I got to the next stroy part, it had been 20 in-game hours since the last one, which was several days prior. Made it hard to remember what I was doing at times.

I liked all the mechanics from brotherhood, from the ability to throw a spear at soldiers on horses impaling them, to the money making system of fixing up the city.

Unity had the best outfit system imo. I liked the class choices. like that slouch hat, or the masquerade mask

if you guys do decide to play through the AC games, I think Male Eivor (Valhalla) had better voice acting and Kassandra was the better voice acted in Odyssey. Just my advise on who to choose, although in Valhalla, you can switch whenever you want, but in Odyssey, you cannot. I wish they would just choose and design 1 Protag and not allow the gender choice, just make a good character that I'm going to fall in love with, their gender doesn't matter.

When Valhalla first came out, I saw people say Female Eivor was meant to be the 'canon' one and they used a letter as proof that adresses her as 'Eivor Varinsdottir' with the dottir bit obviously suggesting she was a woman. Problem with that is that Vikings didn't have the same naming conventions with surnames. 'Parent'sName'-dottir/son was how surnames were decided but they tended to be along gender lines from what I understand. Neither Male or Female Eivor would have been Varinsdottir, Male would have been Varinson. but Female would have been Rostadottir after her mother so I thought the letter was meant to be another source of unknowable gender.

Of cours then the developers came out and said Female was meant to be canon which, fine, why did they bother making Male an option then? Kassandra had been the better voice acting (and thus the more popular choice) in Odyssey and Evie had been more popular than Jacob back in Syndicate, it's not like players wouldn't have played a game with just the female assassin, even Liberty back in the day had a female only assassin (admitedly that was a shorter game but still). Either way, the Male Eivor voice acting was better and some of the plot points (like that jealous viking who thought you were stealing his place, or the potential romance with Randvi made more sense with the Male version.

So, in the games, around the rogue and unity times, they started to blur the lines between good vs evil. Essentially they started to show that the templars aren't 100% evil or bad, they have some values that are necessary and that balance between those and the Assassin's values is necessary sometimes. Although, most of the time templars push their desire for control too far and that's where the assassins come in. But in AC3 and Rogue, Achilles proves that the Assassins have the capacity for evil too.

Also AC3 is notable as being one of the games I enjoyed much more the second time around, and Rogue bridges the gap between 3 and unity. Syndicate is one of my big favs too, I loved Jacob Fry's sassy, cocky attitude.

I went back and replayed them all and even AC2 still holds up. The controls are a bit clunky, but it was so good still. I actually managed to play a lot of the ones I skipped before, like the ps vita one and Rogue and Rogue is now one of my favourites, more than black flag. Unity ended up being really good, now that it's not plagued by loads of bugs. It has been a great journey and now I'm going through resident evil as well. Although I haven't played the side scrollers and I am still working through Valhalla. (Odyssey kinda burned me out a bit because that game just has so much stuff in it) I want to get through mirage (Free DLC expansion with 6 hours of content just got announced) and shadows (Especially since it's apparently a lot better now)

I caught AC Unity wayyy after it came out and its a fantastic game, my personal favorite is Syndicate because I was at the time obbessed with Peaky Blinders so it was a perfect game for me and became my favorite AC Game. But to be able to play Odyssey for the first time and experience it again I would take it in a heartbeat

I would say if you guys play any, treat yourselves to AC Rogue since nobody has played it before, it would be a fresh look. I feel like when Unity & Rogue came out Unity was for new players (simple missions and story easy to see where it was going) & Rogue was more for players used to the AC world (more challenging missions and interesting take as protag was Assassin converting to Templar). Overall rankings for best AC games in order for me are 1) AC2: Brotherhood, 2) Black Flag (soft spot for pirating fun & can ignore main story, like Edward, about 60% of the way thru), 3) Syndicate, 4) Odessey (Syndicate & Odessey are constantly swaping places for me as they are both equally great all around games), 5) AC2, 6) AC2: Revelations, 7) AC1, 8) Rogue, 9) AC3, 10) Origins, 11) Unity, 12)Valhalla. I haven't played Mirage or Shadow so didn't rank them. Only took into account the main single player experience (only multiplayer I played was in the Ezio trilogy and Unity which were all really fun). Ultimately though it would be great to you guys play any (preferably all) of the AC games you've each loved playing before.

Kassandra and female Eivor are the canon characters for their respective games, but Ubisoft for whatever reason won't give us any other female lead AC games (Liberation's assassin is female) without a male lead character whether as an optional choice or a second lead

Dude honestly Captain Edward is def the best because he isn't a trained assassin, in the beginning of the game you actually best an actual assassin and steal his gear and basically take his place, Edward just has the pure raw talent of an assassin, he actually infiltrated an assassin creed camp undetected and have beaten trained assassins who have trained in birth, it's like imagine if he was actually trained he'd be THE Assassin!!!!!

Also, Constantine from the series, CW, and DCAU (despite his show being cancelled a half season in, Matt Ryan is such a good Constantine that he kept getting brought back any time the character showed up somewhere) voices Edward in Black Flag

Sean, I recommend going and getting unity because they fixed a lot of the issues over the years. I replayed it like a year ago and it runs perfectly.

“This morning I was just a drop. A single drop. And soon I became a river.” This sums up revolutions to a T. All it takes is one person with the courage to stand up and say “This is wrong.” for the rest to follow.

Awesome, I love these. Grew up playing these since the first, but stopped before unity. Brotherhood is my favorite. Ezio's story was probably the best thing about the franchise. Blackflag and 3 are close for second favorite.
