I hadn't watched the dub yet. It's quite good. I love Okamoto Nobuhiko, though, the Japanese VA who plays Bakugo. He is an amazing VA. I couldn't quite believe it at first when I learned that he was the one who played Shouta Kisa, one of the most realistic representations of a gay man that I've ever seen in anime… which is ironic if we consider that Kisa is a secondary character, and the main couple in that very same anime (Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi) is a lot closer to the the stereotypical shounen-ai couple with all the stereotypes and toxic tropes the genre is known for… and it's in the Junjou Romantica universe.
Junjou Romantica (and the Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi, to a slightly smaller extent) is one of the most important shounen-ai anime, following Gravitation's footsteps to bring the genre a lot closer to the mainstream. But it's also a product of its time so it really didn't age well, which is why I find it so ironic that that same author, in that same shared canon, was able to create such a great character as Kisa. And Nobuhiko plays him masterfully.
Now, back to MHA, I am part of what seems to be the majority of its public, being really engaged after the first few episodes and excited for its potential, but dropping it around season 3 or 4. I don't know about everyone else, but I dropped it because it became repetitive, and because over and over again they would spend the season hyping up some villain, making it unambiguously clear that the villain was overwhelmingly more powerful than the heroes and that a head-on fight would be an easy win. I would get very curious and excited when the fight started, waiting to see what clever way the writers came up with so the heroes could win despite being so severely outmatched. But it was nothing new after all, just the heroes suddenly becoming several times stronger, right when they are about to be defeated, because of… an ardent desire to win, or the need to protect innocent people who got caught up in the fight, or maybe just the power of friendship.
Honestly, I'm ready for you guys to watch the ACTUAL Deku v Bakugo fight in a couple seasons
Oh my god if you guys actually stopped less than half way through season 3 this is going to be AMAZING
Been so fun watching all these shows with you guys! Thanks for all the work you put in!
"Those gauntlets must be stinky though" funny enough, nitroglycerin smells sweet, so he actually probably smells good all the time
For fan favorites regarding the students it’s definitely the main 3 that get focus, out of them I’d argue Bakugo is probably the one that has the most “stans” (he is still very divisive in the fanbase tho). Every student does in fact have their own mega fan. Hell my favorite character is Tokoyami, I spent 80 dollars to have a bandai figurine of him, and that mf does not get a lot of screentime and yet he’s my BOY. Matter of fact, I also have one of Present Mic my second fave, who has even LESS screentime. I think it’s just such a wide cast they have something for just about everyone lol.
Yeah, between everyone gassing Kaachan up from age 4 to his own perfectionist personality also being on a tether-rope of insecurities despite his massive ego... guy needs therapy so badly. XD
Honestly the dub isn't bad. But I don't like the translation "nah he'll be fine as long as he dodges" When it's more about Bakugo deciding to not hit him directly, saying "he won't die if I don't hit him." Other than that great.
dubs greta patrick seitz all might easily makes it worth watching ontop of the all around great cast
I love my hero up to season 4
