So, when it comes to fur, it’s not that they didn’t know how or couldn’t do it, it’s that the machines weren’t powerful enough for it to even be a moderately feasible task. By Monsters Inc., they created an automated hair/fur handler for their animation engines, but even with 6 more years of computer I think it took like 24 hours or something for like, a second of animation due to having to render the movement of some ridiculous amount of fur.
I’m pretty sure in some draft versions of Toy Story, Woody was more of a villainous character until they pivoted and made Potato Head more antagonistic, and Woody the centerpiece.
Yes there is no dad for one simple reason, the animation rigs for the human characters were too dam expensive and adding one more would have ate up the budget. Heck if you look closely, all the kids at the birthday party are copy-pastes of Andy in different clothes.
I’m gonna be honest, I feel bad for Sid. It’s not like he knew those toys were alive. He was playing with them in his own way. It’s not like he was torturing small animals or something. As far as he knew they were just lifeless plastic.
