I noticed something. In the flashback in the garden, we see Spinel juggling bubbles and Pink Diamond laughing and clapping. And in one of Steven’s dreams in the show, the one where he keeps throwing up hair, there’s a part where he’s juggling bubbles with a Pink Pearl laughing and clapping.

The biggest thing I don't get about this movie was how he couldn't put the scythe inside Lion's mane. I thought that was Lion's ability, not Steven's?
I think it had more to do with his connection to his gem rather than his powers. When Steven first met Lion he didn’t have any control over his powers and he would pet and hug Lion’s mane without any glow. Later on when Steven finally had more control over his gem, Lion showed him that the mane existed (by sleeping on top of him). Regular humans like Connie couldn’t access Lions mane by themselves without Stevens help.
Fun fact: Aimee Mann voices Opal and Ted Leo voices Steg Multiverse who were at one point an indie rock duo known as “The Both”.

Also, yeah, I’ve started getting pretty nervous about the state of physical copies of things in general, because of all the nonsense you’re discussing. I’ve started looking for physical copies of things that I like, and often, yeah, it’s just not available — so I pick it up whenever I do actually find something! Same thing with audiobooks that I’m most fond of.

This movie is so GOOD, I love all of the music.
god the face spinel makes after drift away is so heartbreaking.
While leaving spinel behind was bad. Rose did far more good than bad, we saw the person she became when she met Greg and had steven and then we were shown the mistakes she made.
She fought to save earth, she gave freedom to countless gems, she showed garnet love.
Despite leaving spinel behind, she wouldn't and couldn't have known that spinel would actually stay there nor would nobody ever visit her garden to see spinel there. And even after the war all the galaxy warps were broken so she could never have gone to rescue her.
Plus I don't think Spinel would be very good at keeping the rose pink secret

-Steven's jacket is based off of the jackets Steven's voice actor, Zach Callison, often wears
-and when Rebecca Sugar was drawing some Stevens at an event, she struggled not to draw his updated design with the neck as the movie was still under wraps at the time
Also, Zach got the job as Steven when he was still a kid but grew up faster than Steven so he had to make himself sound like a kid throughout the original series and his voice in the movie and future is much more like his real voice.
(And I can't wait until you guys see Future!!)

It looks fuzzier because it’s significantly lower resolution, albeit better bitrate. 720x480, DVD resolution, is 345,600 pixels. 1920x1080, Blu-Ray and streaming resolution, is 2,073,600 pixels. That’s literally a deficit of 1,728,000 pixels. It has 15% the resolution of 1080p. A Blu-Ray would look better than streaming, but for what it is that DVD is very well encoded. The subtitles also look weird because that’s just how you have to encode DVD subtitles. On Blu-Ray the subtitles are literally an HD picture of words overlayed on the video, with DVD it’s just text. It’s complicated but Blu-Ray subtitles are more versatile.

As much as I like Universe and this movie. Future for me was a massive let down. When they were talking about a divisive ending I assumed they were talking about the one season of Future.
For me this movie was a nice bow on Steven Universe to wrap things up and is what I consider the ending. Future sort of just sours the water by the time its over.

fun fact. on of pearls forms she shifted through when she got her memories back was a form from the Pilot wish is a much different design then what we ended up with.
Also Amethyst when through all those wacky forms when she was reforming super quick in that one episode where she gave herself wild proportions to make herself more like the other gems.
Spinel was probably the only completely unjustifiable thing Pink did. (Accidentally commented this on an unrelated post, cant seem to delete it)
Spinel is actually my favorite character, along with lapis.
I love Spinel, and she's a lot of the reason this movie makes me tear up like a kid who dropped their ice cream cone. I get that she's kind of annoying with how clingy she is, but I think that was intentional to show us why Pink would get annoyed and leave her.
Protip: Record media from streaming services and burn it to DVDs/BluRays. Piracy is a victimless crime, and media will be lost if we don't preserve it.
Fuck I love this movie! It's imo the best piece of SU content. Future gets close for me, but this movie really is all the best aspects of SU distilled down to simple perfection; A real gem haha
Not to mention the absolute barrage of banger songs back to back. Musicals are the best

Finally the moment i've all been waiting for. I LOVE this movie, i literally watched it EVERY DAY For a YEAR straight from the day it released to it's 1 year anniversary. it started off as a joke so i could brag to my cousin about how many times i had watched it but it got to the point where i didn't want to break my streak or something & i had to force myself to stop XD
First off, I would love a Spinel sticker so much. She is one of my favorite characters in the show. ^^
Also going back to her song she sings at the beginning when introducing herself she tells Steven ‘I’m the loser of the game, you didn’t know you were playing.’ Remembering that with the context of what happened to her…is very sad. Also seeing that she had vines/roots growing into her feet from standing in place for 6000 years is also just heartbreaking.
I’m glad you guys enjoyed the movie and also the movie is pretty necessary thanks to Future. But yeah, I can’t wait to see you all react to Future.

I love spinel she's funny and cute I remember when I first saw this movie the part of her song when she said happily wondering, night after is this how it works? Am I doing it right? The am I doing it right line made me tear up. And it still got me again.
oh! I have some gem fun facts for you! Spinel's are real gems, and they are used as a cheaper alternative to diamonds in jewelry since they are so closely resembling them! the fact that she replaced Pink for the diamonds makes a lot of sense.
I remember a theory that the movie would be about a new Diamond Authority, exactly because spinels are viewed as an alternative to diamonds.

yes, it is pretty much a SU Future, it's a spinoff of Adventure time but technically it is the official continuation of the main story! it's 4 eps, but the eps are really long. please don't look into it until you finish AT, there are major spoilers lol

Now that that's out of the way this movie fucking DELIVERED. Spinner has to be one of the most heartbreaking characters I've seen in a long time. And just seeing the growth of all the characters is just chefs kiss. can't wait for Future cus yall are going to have a blast. can't believe we are almost done with such a masterpiece of animation.

Spinel is a fan favourite so I assume people will want her sticker. The movie imo is necessary especially for Future and I honestly thought you'd like it more. Not saying you didn't like it btw,
Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz is an interesting character to me. She's basically an abuse victim going through the phases of being abusive to others cause that's what she learned, trying to be better and still messing up big time, to finally being the best version of herself even if she's still flawed. I like how brutally this show handled the "ideal perfect character who died" that the main character tries to live up to.
I'm a pink defender!! she did bad things unintentionally, but she also did many good things, the thing most fans forget is that her story was told in reverse, people thought she was a saint but when was proven she wasn't people went straight to call her a villan.
I definitely have mixed feelings about Pink, but I do feel that is largely the fault of the show and how it portrays her actions and pretty much vilifies Rose in the eyes of the other characters once it is revealed that Rose and Pink were the same person, which really feels like a slap to the face when the show is all about change and accepting change, but the character who seemingly changed the most if you look at where she came from to where she ended up is so hated by the community.
While pink didn't mean to leave her there for so long it's not like she could go get her after the war cause all the galaxy warps were destroyed so she couldn't

i don't think that's quite true. it's more a reference to the rubber hose era of animation. the shape of her eyes, her first song, and the way she bounces is very similar to that era of animation.
you are correct that its also based on that. Rebecca Sugar based Spinel's powers and design on a lot of different sources. What you said is one of them but I heard she also used Disney's Mickey Mouse, Oswal the Rabbit, and One Piece Devil Fruit powers as references too. It would probably take a while to list each reference and how she used it tho ?

also the way Seeohknee called out how Spinel is like a toy left behind is actually what her character is based off of because Rebecca Sugar created the entire premise of the character around how she lost her favorite toy rabbit as a kid but found it half a year later all dirty and messed up.

On a long list of questionable actions Pink Diamond commited in her life Spinel's backstory is def one of the more messed up moments

While yes I agree that leaving spinel behind was bad you also have to consider this.
Why would pink expect spinel to literally stay there and never move for almost 6000 years?
And why would nobody ever go visit Pinks garden out of mourning where they'd easily find spinel?
And yet there are still fans, and even steven himself who use this one single moment to think Rose is a monster and irredeemable.
Pink still abandoned her tho, she never considers how her actions affect others and this once again causes a whole problem which Steven has to clean up cuz she abandoned him along with everyone else. I’m sorry but I’ll never like Rose as a character and if I was Steven I would NOT forgive her.
Spinel was literally made to follow pinks order it’s not spinels fault that pink couldn’t use 5% of her brain to actually think about that, Either that or she really is an irredeemable loser. Face it pink is in the wrong here and there isn’t a single thing that can prove my point wrong
She was made to follow Pink's commands and play with her. It's in her function like literally every gem, why wouldn't you expect it from her? There's also the case with Pink Pearl. How is it shocking that people despise her when her development was in reverse.
It's easy to expect she would eventually move on for the same reason any other gem that joined the rebellion did. I doubt they all needed that much provocation.
It gives evidence that despite the diamonds' commands, they can rebel and do what they want.
To be fair, Pink kinda "died" a relatively short time after this and Rose had no way back. Not that she was planning to come back, she probably didn't expect Spinel to stay there literally forever.
The Sad Truth us that Pink did it too get Spinel off her back cause at the time she didn't think about stuff like that. Then most likely forgot about her during the rebellion. Its not that she didnt expect it, it was more that she didn't give it any thought. Im sure Pink during the rebellion if she remembered would have gotten spinel though.
We've seen countless times that gems devotions to orders are sometimes borderline fanatical, and in one instance, with Pearl, she was literally ordered into silence (A Pale Rose). Tac on Spinel being made having a childlike innocence if not as a child, whose only role is to be a playmate. Then we go a step further in that every interaction with Pink has been playing around, so no WAY was there a chance for the right kind of introspection. There was never any other gem to tell her that she can break the status quo, Pink couldn't because this was pre-earth and was still acting on gem logic.
That said it doesn't seem farfetched to me that Spinel would stand there, I don't even think that she could even comprehend anything BUT playing the game. Because Pink was acting on gem logic, I do believe she knew it'd be like this, she didn't know any better until after earth.
