David and Courtney by the way dont hate each other in real life they have a kid together that they co parent and in all the press and stuff for movies they were together and talk about how they still love each other it just didnt work out
59:49 had me crying lolololol
I didn’t know Kyle Gallner was in this! He’s awesome!
Perfect day to post this because today is Melissa Barrera's (Sam) birthday!
Something this movie does that I’m not a huge fan of in modern franchise reboots/requels: only referencing the original movie, to the detriment of the story you’re trying to tell. The events of Screams 2-4 are barely acknowledged in this one and I feel like that’s a mistake, both in that it could help this film’s story and in that by ignoring them, it creates its own set of flaws.
-Example of the former: why isn’t Mrs. Loomis referenced? Part of Sam’s arc is her being afraid she’d end up a killer like Billy. If they acknowledged Mrs. Loomis, that makes her fears more understandable, this goes back multiple generations.
-Example of the latter: I feel like setting this one in Woodsboro and making it about Billy’s legacy is a weird choice given that there has since been another Woodsboro massacre where more people died AND the characters in this film would have actually been alive for. I know Billy and Stu started it all but I honestly feel like they wouldn’t be as talked about as much anymore, at least by the kids of Woodsboro. If anything I think Jill’s story would have surpassed theirs by now, the cousin of the original survivor orchestrating her own massacre so she can be the new survivor? Sounds way more juicy than “Guy snaps and tries to kill his girlfriend.”
I do like this one but I feel like Scream 4 did this entire premise first and better. 4 was a sequel about remakes so it basically became a sort of prototype requel but it actually had something to say, it deconstructed the requel formula before it was even a thing. It feels like a fake requel but on purpose. Whereas 5, for all its talk about requels and the Star Wars fandom, it’s just following the requel formula The Force Awakens established to a T: new characters related to the OGs, killing off a legacy character, following the original movie’s story beat for beat. It’s doing it well which is why I still like but I just feel like it’s emblematic of Scream kind of losing that satirical bite of the earlier installments.
I also feel like 4 was just more creative in how it remade scenes from the original, like redoing the trivia scene from the opening with the film geek character for example whereas in this one they’re just recreating the “Look behind you” scene with this movie’s film geek character. Or poking fun at how predictable the intros have become with the multiple Stab fake outs whereas this one’s intro is basically just recreating the original’s.
The most unbelievable thing about this movie is the writers expecting me to believe that Amber was able to overpower Dewey and kill him like that.
Guys you should watch the terrifier movie currently there are 3 installments and are very good but just so you know there very gruesome and have alot of gore
Those 2 YouTubers are real! They're from the channel Dead Meat where they talk about horror movies and are very good friends w/ the director of this film!
The channel that Richie is watching in the hotel room is Dead Meat, a popular horror channel
Courteney Cox and David Arquette's actually have a good relationship apparently. Also the reason why the movie is titled "Scream" and not 'Scream 5" or something is because the title is a reference to movies that are squeals or soft reboots using the same title as the original like Halloween (1978) and Halloween (2018)
Requel, that was the term I forgot
damn, I didn't realize I missed the stream, I really need to fix my twitch notifs lol
So the V part of the M in SCREAM is supposed to be the 5, of the title, in Roman Numerals
