the guardians game was a story heavy action shooter.  It's phenomenal.  It was made by Eidos, who made the Deus Ex games, and the last tomb raider game, among others.

      * there is also a telltale guardians game in the vein of the walking dead games, it's alright, but the one people like is the eidos one from 2021, not the telltale one from 2017

    - People were predicting this movie was going to be a major flop before release. It became both the third highest grossing film in the MCU at the time, and the third highest grossing film in all of 2014.

    - Apparently including Rocket in the story was hotly debated among the writers because some of them were worried he'd be "too cartoonish", which is wild considering what else is in the film and how insanely popular MCU Rocket is now.

    - Hot damn would I love if you guys watched the original Star Trek movies, though I feel like the first movie could and maybe should be skipped. It's one of those rare franchises where the sequels were far, far, far better. I have very mixed feelings on the reboot movies, but those lean rather heavily at times on assuming the audience is at least roughly familiar with the originals anyway.

So are they the Sorta Stupid of the Galaxy or Guardians of the Billy, because I want to hope the latter but having rewatched the huddle up scene of GotG bickering, talking 12% of a plan, Groot eating one of his own sprouts, etc, all I could think of was: "oh hey, it's one of their Sorta Stupider podcasts, and I'm paying $25 a month to watch it" lol but seriously, love these reactions, love the podcast

it's a bad movie in terms of reception in history. A lot share opinion on it being horrible just like a lot share of GOTG being great as it has a legacy. Simple. It's ok to still like a bad movie. That doesn't change of it being regarded as a bad film.

This is probably my least favorite Marvel movie, but I just don't like sci-fi genre stuff, sooooo... XD I do enjoy Rocket, however.

Did not expect Howard the Duck to being there, though. What a wild end-credit to include.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure the Groot sapling that rocket plants is not considered the same Groot but Groots son; so OG Groot is still dead

correct, in the same vein that a time travel duplicate or a clone is the same person, but not the person you knew.

Groot sapling is the equivalent of his son, yeah, from what I remember of various interviews.

Gunn is somewhat vague on the topic with the exception of saying Groot doesn't retain his memories. In contrast,  Kevin Feige said, "He remembers. He’s not mentally a baby, he is still Groot… I sort of equate it to Spock circa the end of Search for Spock and The Voyage Home." So, make of that what you will.

Highly recommend the Guardians of the Galaxy game. It's a single-player adventure game with a REALLY good story. I don't think it did very well because I think people were wary of Square Enix-published Marvel games after the mixed reception of the Avengers game. Also, it is NOT based on the MCU version (though I'm sure it's influenced by it).

it also had a pretty bad e3 reveal that really soured people on the game.  I remember zero hype going into launch, with good word of mouth really giving it life in the weeks after.

My family has a very long history with the big “C”. My grandfather, Great Uncles, and a couple of third cousins all had it and beat it multiple times. The third cousins were long gone by the time I was born. My grandmother being the heavy smoker that she was had lung cancer and she passed the day before she was gonna start chemotherapy. I was pretty torn up about it because my grandparents had adopted me and I had lived with them for 12 years at the point she passed. And now it’s been six years since my grandfather passed from a heart attack at the kitchen table after I had just gone to bed. so I relate to Star Lord in some ways, as my grandmother was essentially my mother at the point she had passed.

To be fair, Raccoons can actually live 20+ years in captivity. The main reason they die so early in the wild is due to the dreaded car XD Cars are a huge Raccoon killer!

I love James Gunn's stuff because it's always funny with a lot of action, but there's always a sincere emotional core to the characters that grounds everything

James Gunn also made one Suicide Squad movie, Peacemaker, and Creature Commandos, and they're all getting folded in the canon of the new DC movies he's making. All of them are definitely worth a watch, I think they're all bangers.

The GOTG were lesser known even by big Marvel fan standards. They had their comic series discontinued for about 20 years until 2008 where they were brought back with a new issues retconning with new backgrounds & stuff.

The casting in this was perfect, the opening scene is one of the best! I still can't believe Bradley Cooper voiced Rocket! He did such a good job and if you watch behind the scenes with him in the booth he put everything into it. He wasn't the double, that was actually Sean Gunn but he was so animated that you would have thought they used his body movements, it was also his idea to give him that voice. And a sad but sweet thing is the character of Groot actually helped Vin Diesel heal after Paul Walkers death, he had a really hard time, they were best friends.

When it's time, you need to not skip their Christmas special. It's really funny and it has some canon lore I think that is nice to know before the third movie. But I'm not a 100% sure anymore, maybe somebody can confirm.
