It's been sooo long sense I saw this movie. It still holds up fairly well. I wouldn't mind if you want to watch the second one. But I do remember it wasn't as good and the gremlins really got weird.
I also hope you will continue and finish Castlevania.

PG-13 didn't exist until two years later. I feel like the 80s and the 90s were the best times for PG films.
This movie and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom are actually the reason they created the PG-13 rating.

Poop monster you say, I take it your referring to the ghoulie's movie, or its sequel. Also yes you need to watch Gremlin's too.
Everyone reacts to the mum killing 3 of them in the kitchen. I've yet to see anyone realize while she is face down being strangled she ducks forward so her son can hit it with the sword. Mum in this film is not just a fighter, she's got incredible situational awareness to notice her son standing around her waist has a sword he's about to swing at the gremlin attacking her and get out of the way.

A fun thing you guys might like- this movie was so popular everywhere that it and the lore from its novelization were the main influence- and it HEAVILY influenced it to be sure- the manga Pet Shop of Horrors, like a parallel world version of the shop the Mogwai was bought at. So heavily influenced in fact, that the "bad outcome" of this movie is happening during the first chapter.
It did get a 4 episode long OVA series in 1999 of a few of the chapters which were good (on Amazon Prime Vid last I saw) but to be honest, it left out the BEST content.
FYI, it's because of this movie PG-13 was invented.

Loved gremlins can't wait for gremlins 2 since it's that time of the year watch king Kong the one with jack black in it it snowy in that movie and I think it's around Christmas time in that movie zoo yeah lol love yall
Every time you guys pause a bunch during a movie one of you always mentions how we're gonna hate you for it. I just want to say that, at least for me personally, I love the inputs you guys have about the movies, maybe don't always agree with them (though that's rare tbh), but I do like hearing what you have to say. If I wanted to watch the movie without interruptions I wouldn't watch a reaction video lol keep up the great work!
Speaking for myself I get annoyed when they start talking over the film missing things and wandering off on random tangents. If they pause the film especially for one's they haven't seen before they're much less likely to miss important information and I much prefer that. If I want an uninterrupted film, I'll just watch it myself but I'm watching them for their reactions to the film so pause it, talk then resume watching unless its a short little there and done comment.

I have watched this almost every year since I was 8. The director, Joe Dante, is my fave not because he's the best, but because he just genuinely loves cinema and has clear principles. Gremlins 2 is a must. Warner Bros was so surprise at the success of Gremlins, Dante came on after Speilberg couldn't direct as his friend/protégé, that they greenlit Gremlins 2 even with him wanting full creative control. They regretted it and no director ever got that from a major studio again.
None of them noticed the time machine in the background worked and he disappeared in the next scene lol

Fun Fact: Apparently there's gremlin LORE. Found out that the Mogwai that deliberately resist the urge to turn into gremlins without much human help (I.e., Gizmo) are called Eternals? They're the rare few good-hearted gremlins - in the novelization this is bcuz the OG Mogwai tend to be nicer than ones born from water, but that doesn't mean there aren't shithead OG Mogwai/gremlins either.

I remember sleeping on the opposite end of my Grandma's Queen sized bed to where my head was right next to the box T.V., and suddenly I heard the T.V.s' DVD slot slide open, and then closed. All of a sudden, the Gremlins 2 theme was playing, and I opened my eyes to the main menu of this movies was on. She knew turning the movie on would wake me up. Man I miss those days, I miss my Grandma. 💚 💜

Yeah, the whole "after midnight" thing is asked by everyone ive seen watch this. Lol. It was brought up so much back in the day that they made a very clever joke about it in the sequel.
Glad I can be that guy so early on - Gremlins was NOT directed by Steven Spielberg. It was directed by Joe Dante, Steven was one of the main financiers (executive producer) and put his name to it as a part of his brand appeal. Kinda like how Nightmare before Christmas is not directed by Tim Burton (though Burton did have more of a hand in that than Gremlins iirc)
