If you guys were serious about learning look into HEMA instead of fencing.

I think if you guys wanted to get into weapon fighting lessons, you should look into local HEMA (Historical European Marial Arts). And given Joaquin Phoenix's performance as Commodus, I need to see you guys' reaction to Joker.

I was in the Baltimore Ravens Marching Band when I was in high school and we played a song called "Gladiator". Me, having never seen this movie, just thought it was a random title. Then, one day around a year later, the movie came on tv and I was like "yeah alright, I'll see what this is about". the background music started playing, I immediately recognized it. I find myself paying too much attention to it during the movie tho

Ridley Scott is an amazing director. Hans Zimmer's music too (yeah a real Pirates of the Caribbean vibe to it)

There's an old saying. To please the people of Rome, all you needed was "Panem Et Circenses". Bread and Circus. As long as you kept them fed and entertained, you could rule them however you wanted, and it's exactly what is portrayed here.
Regarding roman architecture, their concrete is a wonder that has managed to survive the passage of time for so long that it's almost a miracle. I think it was discovered a few years back that they would put in large chunks of limestone, so when a crack appears in a building, the limestone would wash down into it after a rain, then dry and expand into the crack, thus repairing it.
I think Quintus acted that way because he knew that the only way to keep Rome stable was to follow the orders. Only a few people knew that Marcus Aurelius was planning to give power to the Senate, but with Commodus claiming that he was the rightful heir to the title of Emperor, there was no real way to prevent that. Assassinating Commodus would have thrown Rome into chaos, and the Senate wouldn't have been able to calm things down. The best compromise in this situation was to wait for an opportunity in which Commodus' death would be accepted, and Maximus delivered him that opportunity.
This movie is a combination of so many great people coming together to create one of the most beautiful movies in history. Awesome actors who carried their characters perfectly, a great Director who's given us so many great movies already, and freaking Hans Zimmer, one of the best composers of the industry. I really hope the second movie will bring us a similar experience, and seeing the cast that has been revealed so far, it should be great.

There's a limited series I recommend you guys to watch, Baby Reindeer. It might be different compared to the other shows you react to but it's really good and is one of the top series on Netflix!
