So Im gonna start this simply, I am a huge FNAF fan love the series for what it is and have played thru (most) the games read (some) of the books and have now watched this movie probably like 6 or 7 times so this'll def be a bit of a biased comment from me.
I LOVED this movie, I think people who were expecting a hardcore adaption of the games into this movie dont understand how boring of a movie that wouldve made. Like SeeohKnee said the game is literally just sitting in an office using cameras and doors to prevent the animatronics from killing you, with SOME lore sprinkled in thru phone calls at the beginning of each night and some visual context clues if you died or looked at the right spot at the right time. Instead the movie mixed in characters and lore from not just a couple of the games but the books as well and built a fresh but familiar story around key points of the lore, for example Vanessa is based upon a character who first showed up in the first VR game Help Wanted and first noticeable by name in Security Breach the game that followed HW. Same with certain scenes like Abby hiding in the arcade and how the animatronics cart of William after the springlocks in his suit fail coming from the first book that was released "The Silver Eyes". It mixes a lot of things as an alternate timeline which is probably where a lot of dislike comes from but again as I said I think what they did made for an easier written story to make enjoyable than if they only tried to take 1-1 from the games.
As for William and the Yellow Rabbit, there were hints about him earlier in the movie, during the opening credits they show someone getting dressed up in a yellow rabbit suit and going around slowly picking off a group of 5 children 1 by 1 tho anyone new to the series wouldnt understand what they are seeing. The Yellow Rabbit in the games/books is one of 2 original suits from the Fazbear franchise that were capable of being used as animatronics, or if you used the Springlocks to wind back the animatronic parts a person could wear it as a suit. Thats how Afton, originally known only as "Purple Guy" in games 2 and 3 because all scenes depicting him only showed an 8-bit character coded completely in purple hovering around the pizzeria, would ensnare children and isolate them so he could do with them as he pleased. He was first given a name in the first book, where he also used a false name early on before being uncovered as Afton.
A Matthew Lillard easter egg is in the movie exists when he first pulls out the knife, he runs one of his hands over the blade similar to what he does in SCREAM.
Anyways I loved the movie and would give it like an 8/10 but I can also understand why others might not like it. I'm glad u guys enjoyed it and I cant WAIT for the next one, which just got a posted release date for Dec 2025 which is a couple months later than they originally said they wanted 2 to release but not too much a pushback.

I will say, being a casual Fnaf fan and being into the lore, I do think that their are some potential issues the fanbase may have with how much the lore was shifted around, but honestly that isn't my biggest issue. Personally, I was pulled out of the film a bit once they started having that goofy montage with the animatronics. However, the movie was able to pull me back in relatively quickly... until William Afton showed up. As a person who enjoys good horror; the main villain of this movie is not scary or intimidating in the slightest. William Afton in the games (what little we got of him) was originally depicted as calm, intelligent, well spoken, egotistical, cagey, and driven by both envy and bloodlust. Not only that, but despite being a serial killer, William Afton had a wife, two sons, and a daughter (named Elizabeth not Vanessa, who died as a child), all of whom he seemingly loved (in his own messed up way), potentially even creating his own sadistic justification for killing, since his youngest son's death is believed to be what drove him over the edge. He felt more like a genuine clinical psychopath; inability to distinguish between right and wrong, difficulty with showing remorse or empathy, tendency to lie often, manipulating and hurting others, narcissistic behavior, etc. According to an article called "9 Subtle Ways Psychopaths Communicate Differently, According to Science" (I'll provide a link bellow), "Studies show psychopaths usually speak in a controlled manner. They don't emphasize emotional words like other people do. Their tone remains fairly neutral throughout the conversation. Researchers suspect they craft a calm demeanor intentionally because it helps them gain more control in their personal interactions." I recommend reading the whole article, it's not super long, and just imagine if the movie had depicted William like a real psychopath.
William Afton in this film however, is stupid, loud, angry, childish, and cartoonishly evil, like... mustache twirling levels of evil. I can't take him seriously as a threat. I mean, yelling at the animatronics? What did he hope to accomplish with that? Then there's also the fact that he's still alive which presents so many issues; why are the animatronics not killing him, when in the game it is heavily implied that they attack the security guard because he's one of Afton's sons and bears a striking resemblance to his father (they thought Mike was William)? What even was William's plan in this film? If he wanted to kill Mike, why didn't he do it the first night that Mike was there, why did he wait for Mike to realize that the animatronics were possessed? and if he wanted to mess with Mike before killing him, why did he not show up until the very end? if he wanted to kill Mike's sister, then why didn't William kill her the first night she was at Freddie's? Can you imagine for a moment, if the Mike in this film was William Afton's older son, and couldn't remember his past? that would have created such a strong connection between antagonist and protagonist.
and that last line from William Afton was so cringy, "I always come back", I mean I know it's kinda his signature line, but it doesn't work in this context. "I always come back" is William definitively stating; "no matter how many times I die, you will never be rid of me". This line doesn't work if he hasn't died at least once before. and also, they included Venessa, who isn't even related to Afton in the games, yet they excluded the marionette animatronic? the marionette is probably the second most important character in the games since, A) she gave new life to the rest of the children inside of the animatronics(she's the reason they are possessed to begin with), and B) her lines in Ultimate Custom Night; "the others are under my protection", and "the others are like animals, but I am very aware", and "I recognize you (William Afton), but I'm not afraid of you... not anymore". and can you imagine how much more satisfying William's death would have been in this film if he had been calm, monotone, and sadistic throughout, then as the springlocks failed, we heard genuine fear; blood-curdling screams of pain and fear finally breaking his facade of control and superiority?
overall, I enjoyed this film, but I really didn't like the way William Afton was portrayed, and I feel like their should have been more mystery in the way the film told its story, as an homage to the games. However, and this might be a bit of a hot-take, I also feel like this movie over-simplified the story of Five Nights at Freddie's. I know the lore is notorious for being convoluted, but they could have just tidied up the lore instead of simplifying it by cutting away so much and then stitching the leftover pieces together in a way that doesn't make sense to many of the fans. Sure, in isolation the movie is pretty solid, but the story feels like someone read the synopsis of the Fnaf lore on a wiki then tried to make a movie out of it without truly understanding the source material.

I thought the movie was very nice, even being an avid fnaf fan (which i'm sure is obvious given my pfp and user) however I still had my issues with it. I am a fan of the older games, and find myself only liking the original 4 plus maybe sister location. I do not like pizzaria simulator or security breach, and so having Vanessa be in here (a character introduced in security breach if im not mistaken) I did not really like. But other than that, really good! I actually really enjoyed seeing the animatronics act like kids, since I believe it's even said in one of the games (fnaf 2, maybe?) that the animatronics seemed to dislike adults, so that checks out.
That being said, though, my favorite part was hearing the living tombstone's first fnaf song in the credits- i absolutely love that song and have listened to it since it came out, used to fall asleep listening to it so even though it's been a few years since i've heard it, I still knew all of the lyrics lmao.

I think the main issue people are having with it is that from a fans perspective they changed a LOT of the lore. Like Vanessa isn't originally Aftons kid, Mike is. And Afton still being alive with both Mike And Vannessa there is weird and kinda threw me completely off watching it. Apparently it's supposed to take place in an alt timeline/version of the series. And a lot of use just didn't vibe with that. But i think if you go in not knowing and plot, lore, character backgrounds etc then yeah it's great! But I do understand why so many people gave it a poor rating.

I actually really like the movie and I have played all the games and gone into all the lore and I had no problems with the changes. It makes watching the movie more exciting because I don't know where the story is going to go.
As for the scary aspect. I think people were going into it wanting horror like the nun or the conjuring but that's not what FNAF is. And it is scary in its own way not because of the jump scares but because of the subject matter. FNAF deals with a very brutal subject: the murder of multiple children. It's psychologically fucked up and that makes it horrifying in a different way.

The reason this movie gets bad reviews is because it's Five Nights at Fan Service
Jason Blum said he wasn't making this movie for anyone else but the fans. Because critics don't know shit about FNAF, they weren't able to appreciate it as much as the core fanbase who know all the lore & theories & notice and appreciate all the little references & easter eggs, stuff hidden in the background like Chica's magic rainbow, "Dream Theory," Mat Pat saying "But that's just a theory," "I always come back," etc. And the song during the credits was a popular Fan made song by The Living Tombstone also the villain reveal isn't that mind blowing when you have no idea who the guy is.
And yes the cab driver was a youtuber, CoryxKenshin,
Markiplier was supposed to be the security guard at the beginning of the movie, but couldn't because of sceduling issues

If you guys are interested in more FNAF, it would be awesome to see you guys react to MatPat's FNAF theories including his behind the scenes video, and seeing you guys maybe play Security Breach as a group - but only if you guys want to! Thank you for the reaction! :)

As a long time fan, I felt like this was the perfect love letter for my mixed love for the franchise. I really like that thing you guys said about how horror isn’t set in stone as a “gore fest” and that’s why most of my favourite horror movies and games have forms of dark humor or other genres tied to them like tragedy. I get bored watching the same bloody killer thing over and over again with no Nuance. I was afraid they were gonna make the animatronics be one dimensional “kill everything in sight” basically what they are in the main games (at least the original trilogy). But I really really felt like I was given something that I love. Maybe it’s also because I’m one of those “Security Breach was fun for me” people (and it genuinely does scare me at times)
I was actually going into this thinking it would be just one big spook fest with no nuance, but I’m really happy, especially with the missing children given more adaptation to the story. I’m the games they’re hardly existing, just as anomolies if anything. I could go on and on about why it felt so genuinely fun to see this in cinemas after being a fan for so long, but it’s way too long of a comment already lol

My complete honest opinion about the people that complain about the movie is they're just being whiners. As a long time fnaf fan since game 1 I am so happy with how it turned out. That isn't rly a good thing when it makes up its own lore, that has a clear storyline. For fans it's enjoyable for the fan service but the plot isn't that good imo. There's so many contradictions and plot holes towards the later act.
But regardless I think people should just form their own opinions than just having hateboners over critics

The reason everyone hates the movie is because they got the lore so impossibly wrong that its nearly impossible to consider a sequel after this and the entire og fan-base is what made this movie possible but it does absolutely nothing for us apart from a cool thriller movie to enjoy completely unconnected from the games and lore. It was marketed toward us then shattered out trust. Especially after how well the Mario movie was made. We had a decent amount of faith over all and now we have nothing but an hour and a half long video of loose random cameos

This is the stupidest comment I've ever seen. This movie had Scott Cawthon involved in every step of creating it. HE MADE THE DAMN LORE YOU'RE COMPLAINING ABOUT. You're seriously saying he's getting his own lore wrong? Because he changed like one thing? Get real.
Fries

The games never had a clear and linear story, 60% of the lore was filled in by the fanbase, this story actually makes sense and stays within its own bounds, if the next movie follows fnaf 2 then it'll be a prequel (hinted at the fact that they had old balloon boy merch), I can understand why people are upset but its completely ridiculous for people to expect it to follow the game lore 1:1 especially when the game lore hardly makes sense if you don't look at the timeline and theories made by fans and not the canon material. Regardless this game takes pieces of the games and pieces of the books, both of which are separate canons
Lulu

Honestly? I think the lore is much more well constructed in the movie than what it became in the games. They just sort of mashed it together from a few of the sequels and stories and connected it in an alternate way, it’s not related it just tells as a similar story to the ones from the games. It got totally convoluted in the games around the time sister location came out, this is practically an spoon fed sip of what the lore is like in the games but doesn’t equal it. But that’s just how I feel about it.
TheLastRunicorn

The game and lore was always iffy. Scott made it up on the way and created alternate universes through his books. I expected the same from the movie. So what if it's not game accurate, it included the community! With matpat and cory. Even the FAN MADE fnaf song was in the end credits so WDYM IT DOES NOTHING FOR THE FANDOM HUH??? You dont have to like it but please dont speak for every fnaf fan because i guarantee not EVERYONE hates the fnaf movie.

except Scott has been clear that it wouldn't just be the games lore 1:1, he didn't do that to the novels and the movie here feels like a middle ground between the novels and the games, the shot of Abby behind an arcade cabinet with Foxy in the background is a good example of inspiration from the novels, hell the ending itself was super close to how the first novel ended too, Scott usually keeps lore of each media form of the franchise separate while sharing elements of each other

I'm not overly thrilled with how the movie handled lore but every time the franchise has been adapted to a new medium they've established a completely new canon. The books don't follow game lore either, and they're great IMO.

This is correct! Scott said to go into this with a clearer mind because it is different lore, it isn't related to the games or the books. It follows its own story, which is why Vanessa is Mike's sister whereas that wouldn't work in the game franchise now with how far in the future Security Breach is. This lore was all intended the way it was written

I have no idea how to comment normally on this page, I can only seem to reply to other comments. Anyways I'm glad y'all liked the movie, for me it really reawakened my nostalgia for the games. I also appreciate the changes to the lore as someone who never played any of the FNAF games past the first three, I think it translated well and made more sense. I've watched some playthroughs of the later games, but I thought the lore was really confusing and not the best writing. Vanessa's character in particular was very dumb and one-dimensional, I much prefer her movie counterpart. I think she's way more interesting as Afton's daughter. She seems like such an odd character early in the film but it all makes sense after the reveal. She's seemingly toeing the line of trying to get Mike to just keep his nose down and not get into trouble, while also covering up what her father did. I think she never turned him in out of fear, and we see in the movie how quickly he turns on her when she tries to stand up to him. She has so much potential to be explored in another movie and I'm excited to see what's next for this franchise.

I know the lore is notorious for being convoluted, but they could have just tidied up the lore instead of simplifying it by cutting away so much and then stitching the leftover pieces together in a way that doesn't make sense to many of the fans. Sure, in isolation the movie is pretty solid, but the story feels like someone read the synopsis of the Fnaf lore on a wiki then tried to make a movie out of it without truly understanding the source material.

did anyone see the skeleton move behind ruff at 1:31:31 - 1:31:35
1:08:27 too, looks like the editor was playin a lil prank, it's so good tho cuz my eyes immediately darted there LOL
thank god im not the only one say it elere
“The other YouTuber guy” damn that hurt
At 4:45 the skeleton in Ruffs background moves. It actaully scared me for a second lol
You guys should watch part 2 and 3 of Game Theory's Ultimate FNAF Theory
Markiplier was busy working on his own movie "Iron Lung" which the guys should watch when it comes out, too.
I'm glad that it's all practical effects instead of cgi.
Fuck those critic reviews
The first 5 minutes alone had quite a few references to the games including the dream theory book, back when people believed Fnaf 4 was a dream
If you played the games or watched the timeline theories you'd be way more suspicious and aware of everything
Somewhere they could go is try to find the brother since he wasn't there with the other's, at least as far as we saw. Also, considering the movie has a Pg-13 rating and the critics complaining about it not being scary enough!
I watched this movie in the cinema yesterday. Then I upped my pledge to 15 so I can see you guys react to the whole thing - I feel like that's testament enough to how much I enjoyed this. Man this was a blast, I NEVER expected to have this much fun on a FNAF movie
So glad you guys reacted to the FNAF film and enjoyed it! I found the film tremendous fun and more a psychological, scary film with a wonderfully heavy plot!
If you guys are interested in more FNAF, it would be awesome to see you guys react to MatPat's FNAF theories including his behind the scenes video, and seeing you guys maybe play Security Breach as a group - but only if you guys want to! Thank you for the reaction! :)
1:31:32 either burn ur house or tell ur editor they're doin to much xD
I could go on and on about why it felt so genuinely fun to see this in cinemas after being a fan for so long, but it’s way too long of a comment already lol
the foreshadowing is top notch.
Also yes, that’s Coreykenshi he’s a YouTuber/gamer lol..
Guys, I love ya, but the Critics ain't wrong on this one. No bias whatsoever and I was bored out of my mind.
I find it funny that the ending ever-so-slightly resembles the ending of Random Encounters's Five Nights At Freddy's: The Musical. That said, please react to that at some point, it's legitimately great.
I didn't like this movie because it bored me and was tonally inconsistent
I loved this movie but it does feel like it should have came out in 2015 instead of now
the end credits song is a really popular fan made song that came just a little bit after the first game did made by The Living Tombstone
Is your skeleton moving on its own or what?? that shi scared me
IT SCARED ME TOO I THOUGHT I WAS TRIPPIN???
I loved this movie a lot. I watched it twice.
You should watch the Gametheory Timeline after this
Saw it in Theaters yesterday goanna watch it again today I guess
My complete honest opinion about the people that complain about the movie is they're just being whiners. As a long time fnaf fan since game 1 I am so happy with how it turned out. Idc if its "accurate" to the lore, the lore isn't even consistent in the games lmao. I can't wait for the next two movies!!!
I was about 10 when the first fnaf game came out. Now I'm 19. And turning 20 the month before fnaf turns 10. And it really really enjoyed the movie, I watched the movie on the 26th. It don't think it needed a lot of gore, I was fucking shocked at Max's death.
Also happy that you enjoyed it as well
It’s hilarious that a review said the movies plot was convoluted when the game/books are infamously known to have a convoluted plot ?
That isn't rly a good thing when it makes up its own lore, that has a clear storyline. For fans it's enjoyable for the fan service but the plot isn't that good imo. There's so many contradictions and plot holes towards the later act.
But regardless I think people should just form their own opinions than just having hateboners over critics
HONESTLY
21:46 the skeleton fucking moved
omg!! I 'm so happy someone else saw it hahaha!!! I thought i was going crazy!!
Bro, I saw that and immediately paused, looking in the comment section if anyone else brought it up
I KNOW IM LIKE WHAT?? He had to of done that on purpose ☠️
Amazing movie
You guys should react to The Iron Giant at some point if you haven't seen it.
I’m so glad you guys are reacting to it, i loved that movie! btw does somebody noted that Ruff’s skeleton moves his head in some point of the reaction?? i saw it and it made me scared a little hahahaha
As a fan, i dont know how i feel about the movie... the easter eggs were cool but the plot is an absolute mess and somehow it doesnt follow most of the games lore besides the general concept. Idk if it wouldve had any enjoyment if i didnt watch it with friends.
the cameos and animatronics were cool tho. story not so much.
Y'all should still watch the lore videos though
Get real.
You dont have to like it but please dont speak for every fnaf fan because i guarantee not EVERYONE hates the fnaf movie.
except Scott has been clear that it wouldn't just be the games lore 1:1, he didn't do that to the novels and the movie here feels like a middle ground between the novels and the games, the shot of Abby behind an arcade cabinet with Foxy in the background is a good example of inspiration from the novels, hell the ending itself was super close to how the first novel ended too, Scott usually keeps lore of each media form of the franchise separate while sharing elements of each other
i was hoping this was going to be a one piece scenario
I'm not overly thrilled with how the movie handled lore but every time the franchise has been adapted to a new medium they've established a completely new canon. The books don't follow game lore either, and they're great IMO.
This is correct! Scott said to go into this with a clearer mind because it is different lore, it isn't related to the games or the books. It follows its own story, which is why Vanessa is Mike's sister whereas that wouldn't work in the game franchise now with how far in the future Security Breach is. This lore was all intended the way it was written
Hej are you guys makening mere fang theories video
please react to the kingsman movies next, and since this movie is based off of a game you guys should react to the live action mortal kombat movie, not the ones from the 90s the latest one i mean
Fun Fact: The song in the credits was the first fan song made for five nights at freddy's from over a decade ago.
I doubt it could have been over a decade ago, The first Five Nights at Freddy's game came out in 2014, 9 years ago.
Surprise FNAF Friday???!!! Don't mind if I do.
Ah, I have yet to see it and I do want to see it on my own first, I will come back to this after I see it in theaters! Can't wait to both see it for myself and see what y'all think of it
lets gooo
I literally JUST got home from seeing this in theaters lol. Time to watch again!
That's what I did
FNAF AT FREDDYS… THATS WHERE I WANNA BE; FNAF AT FREDDYSSS
"five nights at freddys at freddys"
Now they should watch either the rest of the game theorist ultimate timeline or the "Everything you need to know about FNAF" by ferret ft matpat although while a little outdated still is a good jumping off point.
I'm so glad they did that at the end credits
Hello I just letting you know that you missed another scene at the end credits it was not a video but a dialogue it said “come find me” you understand it when you Finnish the lore videos from game theory *hint hint*
"five nights at freddys at freddys" perfect
FNAF nights at freddys
