Wednesday S2 Episode 1-2 Reaction
After watching Loki and House of the Dragon you guys definitely need to figure out the brightness settings for whatever you are watching and recording this on. I don't recall Loki being that dim and the previous episodes of HoTD weren't that dim either. To check this I've redownload an episode of both series and they are way brighter on my TV compared to watching your recording on the exact same setup. Even watching Youtube clips shows the difference.
yes i watch these at work in my free time and ive noticed its dim as well
"You will have a dragon one day" - Alicent
"He'll have to close an eye" - Helaena
Helaena is a prophet
lol. IYKYK
House Of - thanks to dark not being able to see- The Dragons. Also Happy Birthday Sean!!
what you should be asking is what is happening with Leanor's dragon, Seasmoke, it's not like he took it with him...
I don’t understand how anyone could blame Aemond for what happened. He gets off his dragon then is immediately attacked by 4 of his cousins. He was jumped in a 4v1 and then gets blinded but people are still defending Rhaenyra’s side. Lunacy
because he was horrible and literally started it
He was attacked as you called it after insulting Damon's daughters. It's not like his cousins walked up to him and attacked him amen insulted the little girls after their mama just died so in a fit of rage she attacked him
Aemond's exact words were "I'll feed to my dragon." And "you'll die screaming in flames." He clearly wanted a fight with the kids who had always teased him. Especially now that he had the confidence of having the largest dragon in the world.
also he's 10 years they all are the people to blame in this simulation are the parents and adults.
That’s literally after he already had been assaulted
So yeah if I got jumped, knocked to the ground, then had a knife drawn on me I’d probably say some violent shit too
You're not correctly stating the order of the events there. The first violent thing that happened was Aemond throwing one of the girls to the ground. And Aemond threatened them with death and a ROCK while holding one of the kids by the throat BEFORE the knife was drawn.
When Corlys is right: Sweet man!
When Alicent is right: REEEEEEEEEEEEEE she's crazy and evil
never change guys
Except Alicent isn't right?
if you dont like it go react to someone else its obvious which side they on and, looks like they aren*t changing their minds anytime soon.
pointing out the hypocrisy doesn't mean I don't enjoy the content.
How exactly was Alicent right? She ordered a Child's eye to be cut out and then tried to do it herself. I get why she had a me tal breakdown, but Aemond is not some perfect golden child like she thinks he is. She clearly raised her kids with an "us vs them" mentality and it caught up to the kids. Aemond's words during the child fight were "I'll feed you to my dragon" and "You'll did screaming." Clearly she's doing a greeaaattt job the whole "parenting" thing.
she's not doing anything that nobody else wouldn't do in her position. you're lying if you think otherwise.
How bout don’t raise your kids to fight their elder half sister. Later on you will eat those words when Alicent describes her kids.
Helaena’s crazy ramblings should be listened to and remembered. They matter.
Aemond taking Vhagar was a dire offense to Leana's daughters ON THE NIGHT OF THEIR MOTHER'S FUNERAL and he twisted the knife over and over. People defended Aemond when this episode came out. As if he didn't take something of the utmost value that wasn't his, disrespect grieving daughters, commit treason, and threaten his cousins with murder. Even Aemond himself understood that it was fair in the end. That kid deserved to lose an eye. I don't care.
While I agree with what is being said, I do think him loosing an eye was a bit far, then again this is the world of Thrones.
If it weren't for the fact that Aemond escalated to lethal force, I would agree. But since he did, it would've been fair play to kill Aemond. You ask me, Aemond was shown mercy.
You can't steal a dragon, the dragon picks it's rider, there was never a guarantee Vhaegar would even allow the daughter. Aemond was literally attacked first in a 4v1, I'm sorry, it was self defense, not treason lol just no.
You can steal a dragon. You just watched Aemond do it. Aemond incited the conflict and everyone involved was half his size. It was not self-defense. Aemond provoked them and escalated to lethal force while promising to kill. Everyone else's motivation makes sense. Aemond's does not. Aemond was just being violently cruel because he could and because he wanted power.
No, you're completely ignoring the agency of the dragon here. Viserys himself says they're a power men should not have trifled with; dragons are independent creatures, not heirlooms to be passed down from Targaeryan to Targaeryan. If that were the case, Meleys would be flown by Daemon, and Caraxes would be flown by Rhaenys; but no, after Daemon's mom died, Rhaenys bonded with Meleys, and after Rhaenys' Dad died Daemon bonded with Caraxes.
Because the agency of the dragon is fully irrelevant. Aemond made his move the night of the funeral. He knowingly disrespected grieving daughters and robbed one of them of the opportunity to claim her mother's dragon. And if that wasn't enough, he flouted it and verbally/blatantly disrespected their mother to their faces on THE NIGHT OF THE FUNERAL.
was it mean? sure. unfair? not really. But to be clear, that wasn't the point I was refuting; you literally just *cannot* steal a dragon. that's not how the world of Westeros works, kids do not suddenly get dibs on their mother's dragon, because they are not a pet, nor even just an animal. The community arguing about whether it was justified for a child to lose an eye was always insane, the justification doesn't matter, because ultimately the kingsguard and every adult in their vicinity failed every single one of those kids; and not a single one of them deserves blame for losing the eye.
he's like 10 years old and the dragon pick him
The other kids are younger, yet they understood. Aemond was the only one there. It's not choosing if there's only one choice.
What I am trying to say is none of them deserve that. This is the parent and authority figure fault. Aemond and all ofthem are children who are being told to hate each other by there parent the point of that fight is not beat up aemon no it's what is wrong with world where this happens. I thinks that just point story in a lot of ways alicent was taught by her father, and Viserys lack of parenting led aegon and aemond problems what am trying to say is this black white of looking at this whole episode is not the point and this show
People like the Aemond glow-up but little Aemond made a dick move claiming Vhagar; he 1000% deserved to lose that eye. And Aemond is arguably my favorite character in S2 and Vhagar is such a mood all the time. Old cranky lady.
I think everyone is forgetting one crucial fact. Laenor loves those boys. He sees them as his sons. That's all that matters.
Tbf they barely show us that on the show and it’s more implied. I wish they’d covered it more thoroughly.
I know I'm not the only one who has said this, but Rhaenrya's only mistake was not getting a Black side piece. Like girl, think, your husband is black. Your children should be biracial, not full white. And it is made all the worse when you see Daemon and his daughters. People always bring up the hair; the hair isn't the problem. There have been plenty of Targaryens who have had two Targaryen parents and come out with black hair. But for neither of the babies to come out mixed, she played herself. Two Black people can get together and make a white person; they're called an albino. Two white people can't get together and make a Black person I know.
Actually, depending on the ancestry, two presenting whites could make a black baby, there's been cases where that gene just slips in and paternity tests come back legitimate.
to be fair, that is a problem solely to due with the casting. In the books, the Velaryon's are white, so if we follow the canon, the only thing wrong with Jace and Luke were hair color, and Targaryen's didn't always have white hair, so it was rumor at best for the Greens. In the show, casting the Velaryon's as black (love them all, and besides this one plot point I think its all very solid casting, especially Laenor and Corlys) opens up Rhaenyra and the Blacks as having an actual claim against them for the bastardry, as opposed to the books it could be construed as the Greens talking out their ass.
Now, if the changed the Strongs to be black as well, that would make Rhaenyra look like less of an idiot
this is what annoys me as someone who'd read the book first.
the way they changed so much which changed alot of plot points..
I think the main reason change the velaryon the black in the show is to make it easier on the audience to tell them abart having a silver family with weird names would be a lot of the casaul viewers. I think it make sense to not make it really ambitious like in the book, it fits the rhaenyra it makes sense, see like Harwin i don't see was think about her bastard children that much.
that's fair, for sure, especially as Thrones never got into the Velaryon's like they did in ASOIAF (though Aurane, Monford and Monterys are barely there either). However, like the issue with lighting choices, it makes the show more convoluted/difficult to interpret correctly, just one is set design and the other is casting.
With the casting choice it makes Rhaenyra look overly stupid in her pick of suitors and it turns the Greens from paranoid and ambitious with a lie (as Targaryen's have had different hair colors, though rarely) to having obvious legs to stand on. Even in the show they say they can all see, and Allicent makes comments about them not looking like Laenor. Sure, if things were the way in the books that insult still works, but is not as obvious of a jab.
Still, like I said, love the casting they did, I just hate how it makes Rhaenyra look like an idiot
need to be listening to what Yelena be saying when she's mumbling about. And she's not casting spells, lmao. She's....special.
thats not her name
Day-for-night scenes are almost universally ugly as hell, but this episode is particularly bad. It's damn near impossible to see any of the detail, so I can't imagine how hard it must be for you guys to be watching it under studio lights.
Daemon was laughing because of what Vaemond was saying. And you can see the whole tense, silent exchange go down before he laughs.
The only issue I can see with faking Laenor's death is he still has a dragon lol
I really loved what they did with Laenor at the end. I'm pretty sure in the F&B book his death isn't faked, so I appreciate the show for allowing Laenor to go on and live his best life 🏳️🌈 Both him and Rhaenyra get their happiness to be with who they love.
to be clear about Daemon laughing during the funeral, the implication isn't that he's laughing at the funeral like a crazy person, it's that Vaemond is using the eulogy he's making for Daemon's dead wife as a political attack against Rhaenyra. "velaryon blood must never run thin"
God, I kinda loved Viserys on my first watch, but he really sucks on rewatch. Outside of marrying a child, putting her immediately in danger as her only point is to make kids that you better hope are girls who can't challenge the girl you just named heir, I actually felt so bad for Aemond watching his dad overlook how he just lost an eye. I was partly sympathizing Alicent not receiving any sympathy from Viserys till I remembered she demanded Luke's eye lol
also Ruff's right, though there are many historical examples of kings and lords executing their wives, even at the time, doing so was very much still a taboo. It's actually really interesting how different the modern conception of monarchies are to the concept of feudal monarchies.
Small note, but Laenor is a dragon rider, just thought you should know, because I think that would make for an interesting discussion.
He probably still should've imprisoned or punished Alicent in some way. Like when Rob Stark had his mom as his prisoner because she released Jamie
yeah, no, that's fair. He 100% should've given some type of punishment to alicent, even a small one would've sufficed to most people, like confining her to her quarters for a few days. Same with Luke tbh
Now we start ramping up! Aemond fucking gigachad Targaryen riding Grandma Vhagar of the conquest! we ballin
Remember when Alicent was talking to Aemond about how one day he would have a dragon, and Helaenna made the weird little comment that “he would have to close an eye”
I always love that. I wish they'd have given Helaenna more screen time, most people I talk to forget she even exists, ESPECIALLY during S1.
Conspiracy theory: When Alicent cut Rhaenyra’s arm with the Catspaw dagger, it may have absorbed her blood. Later, when Arya killed the Night King with that same dagger, it meant a Targaryen descendant—through Rhaenyra’s line—played a role in defeating him.
that's the type of tinfoil hat theory that I'm 100% certain isn't true, but I actually really love lol
Also, pay attention to what Helaena Targaryen (Alicent and King Viserys' daughter) says when she starts muttering to herself....
Yeah I made this comment on the last episode. When Alicent was talking to Aemond in the last episode, she told him he'd get a dragon, and right after Halaena said "he'll have to close an eye." Now in this episode, he gets a dragon, and loses an eye
Yes so important "he'll have to lose an eye" such good foreshadowing!!!
Happy Birthday Boom!
Yeah this is one of the visually darkest episodes. And i heard they filmed this during the day so they purposefully made it this dark lol
It's definitely got some of that old cinematography to it from older films where scenes are supposed to be at night but you can clearly see shadows being cast by sunlight but they've messed with the contrast and brightness settings. It's a weird choice.
You have to listen to what Vaemond is saying in the beginning while he stares DAGGERS at Rhaenyra and her children. Talking about pure blood. That's why Daemond started giggling.
Not a spoiler but there’s a sweet moment in one of the next two episodes that was improvised by Matt smith
yes! unironically my favorite moment of the series
Fun Fact: the actor who plays Aegon is David Tennant's son.
Happy Birthday Sean
dont hurt yourselves lol
