Wednesday S2 Episode 1-2 Reaction
i love this show like i'm so ready for season 3 to come by i think in 2026 or 2027 i think
Damn that whole reception scene was a masterclass in building tension holy shit
love is the death of duty
She TRIED to bang her uncle, Sean. I'm not sure you're appropriately giving her the moral high ground. lol
Also yeah this show you have to be ready for certain characters to age right up
Does anyone else think that Otto and Eric look similar?
They were a bit inconsistent with the aging of characters in this season. Earlier, Laena looked like she was still in pre-school trying to be married off to the King, and Rhaenyra/Alicent looked like they were 15'ish maybe? But now Laena looks like she's 20 and Rhaenyra/Alicent havent aged a day.
A big part about Allison in this season was very much the green she wears for me. It’s not set in stone, but from what I understand is that when marrying into a house you kind of adopt their house colours into your clothing to show your allegiance in a way. Targaryens are red and black, and she’s worn red a fair bit through the season so far- but with green here and there of course. But her wearing green, her own houses colours, at such a huge event, in front of essentially all of the Lords and houses deemed important enough to be there, is a huge silent declaration in my eyes.
i fully support Cristons attitude towards Rhaenyra from this point on. she really did fuck up his life. pretty much forced him to break vows to the king guard, and then just put him to the side.
Rhaenyra didn't "force" Cristin to do anything, nor could she. All he had to do was turn around & walk out. Or follow his original instincts and call for backup. A 100 lb. Rhaenyra couldn't have stopped either of those things from happening. Showrunners made a point of including Cole's long lingering look at his white cloak before he gets busy. Because in that moment he is CHOOSING, not Rhaenyra. He's a grown ass man.
Equally ridiculous for Cole to expect a princess to abandon her family & responsibilities after a single night of sex. WTF? What about her dragon? Is she meant to sail away & forget her whole life, her plans, and what she wants because Cole has regrets? Why is it her job to make him feel better about his choices?
Imagine how ridiculous it would be for a young woman to beg Prince Daemon to forego his family, the succession, his dragon, and sail away with her after a single night together. Would we blame him for "ruining" her whole life if she engaged in the sex freely? Of course not. Rhaenyra isn't to blame for Cole's anguish and/or resentment. He is.
While I don't condone Criston's actions, people too often dismiss Rhaenyra's own, IMO. She took advantage of Criston because she was upset at getting rejected by Daemon. And clearly has absolutely no empathy for what she took from him (his honor). He gave up his honor in a moment of weakness for the women he loved. And then to find out her interest in him was more of a booty call.... He broke his oath for some casual sex. That's rough.
She is really learning f*ck around and find out.
There were people who defended Criston in this moment when this episode came out. They said that Joffrey was trying to blackmail him. Joffrey was just trying to establish an understanding. He was making himself vulnerable as well. That's not what you do when blackmailing someone. The understanding put Joffrey and Criston on equal ground. Heck, it put Joffrey at a disadvantage, being a gay man in a violently homophobic world. Criston defenders are a GIANT red flag.
Say it louder for the people in the back!!!!! Criston suuuuuuuuuuuucks
I hate Criston so much. Emotional self-important little cunt of a man. He was in his feelings, and I wouldn't put it past him to be motivated by homophobia. He's a man who puts such importance on sacred vows. Reads like a violent evangelical hypocrite to me. To my eyes it was partially a hate crime. Ser Joffrey Lonmouth deserved better.
Get ready to see the most butthurt rejected manchild ser crispy
And thus begins Ser Cristan Cole becoming the biggest bitch in all the land.
Viserys claimed Balerion the Black Dread (The dragon that belonged to Aegon the Conqueror), but Balerion was so old that Viserys only got to ride him once before he passed away.
Larys Strong is HotD's version of both Varys and Littlefinger.
There’s 10 episodes in season 1, not 8.
i love the next few episodes but you will want to adjust the brightness settings for the rest of the season. I get the whole thing that it's realistic to how dark it actually used to get without electricity but it's a a tv show, we can suspend our disbelief a little so we can see what is happening.
I think Criston's motivation for admitting what happened comes down mostly to the fact he's wracked by guilt for breaking his oaths. Heck, a big part of the reason for his proposal to Rhaenyra was to rid himself of the shame by marrying her. To then have Rhaenyra show she really doesn't understand who Criston is by offering him the position of concubine.... Ouch.
"Don't so anything fucking stupid, dude."
Narrator: "Ser Criston Cole then proceeded to do something fucking stupid."
Near the end of the video… 6, 7!!!
36:16 Is the voice of dracula in Castlevania Graham Mactavish
23:30 lmao i agree with sean dude looks just like lestat from interview with a vampire
Alicent cutting the king off with the grand entrance was super symbolic and aludes to the fact she has chosen "green" (her own house colours), also she straight away leaves the kings side to go down to where her own house are sat. Otto mentioned earlier on that she could have prevented him being cast out but she chose Rhaneyra instead, this was her proving a point.
It’s not just that the queen walked in unannounced or in the middle of the speech. She came in a green dress, a vibrant green dress. The colors of a house are important in their clothing and on their banners. Targaryen‘s are black and red, that’s why you always see them dressed in those colors. However, the queen is part of the Hightower family, not the Targaryen, whose house colors are bright green. So the dress she walked in with is a symbol that she is siding with her family, including otto Hightower, and not with the king and the rest of the Targaryen such as Reynera and Damon. She is effectively declaring an internal war, and has chosen her side.
Yep. She wore red and black since marrying the King, until this episode
33:33 I dare you fellas, look up what gelding is, or better yet, go ask Theon.
I'm pretty sure they already know
The point Otto is making is that Rhaenyra will have no choice but to have Aegon killed because the realm will never accept her as Queen as long as a male heir is alive. There is a lot of historical precedent in our world for this. What she would want would be pretty much irrelevant in the face of all the men of the realm who would not submit to her rule as long as her brother is a factor.
I'm glad you guys are showing atleast a bit of sympathy to Criston and Alicent, that's very rare for reactors. To be clear, I don't really support either of them, but I do often find it frustrating how little nuance is afforded to their characters by most reactors and the auidence at large.
That said,*this is a little spoilery if you haven't watched the next episode* one of the more odd changes in this series is having Criston murder Joffrey in cold blood; in the book, he had the plausible deniability of an accidental killing him in a tourney, but the change makes it so Criston remaining a member of the kingsguard is honestly fucking insane.
For the show by itself, I don't understand what could possibly be considered sympathetic about either character. Their petty grievances are of their own doing. They lack accountability.
I have a difficult time sympathizing with Criston as a queer man who had to watch him violently murder Joffrey, but the sympathetic part comes from the fact that he was someone who broke class barriers through his own actions and skill only to have it crash down when he becomes a toy to the feudal hierarchy he devoted his life too.
It's not hard to sympathize with Alicent at all to be honest. she was groomed by her father and others to be a tool for their political ambitions (who knows what would've happened if her mother didn't dies), sold to a king who subjected her almost nightly to marital rape (episode 4 is pretty explicit about this), all while being abandoned by her closest friend (to be clear, i think this is fair for Rhaenyra to do, but as the audience we know more about the situation than her)
That's not to excuse or justify anything either of them have done or will do, because sympathy for a does not require agreement, just understanding.
The showrunners had an opportunity to do a nuanced take on both sides of the conflict, but they've made SEVERAL changes that clearly favor one side over the other in terms of who you should be rooting for. Whereas the books are more...you shouldn't be rooting for either side. Maybe they thought it would be more compelling to have a clear antagonist team. But it's one of my biggest disappointments in this show.
What's funny is that the "good" side often does villainous things, but it's brushed under the rug, or else played as redemptive. Whereas the "bad" side always has their actions framed as poisonous.
Yea GOT use to be the greatest show of all time…
It was mentioned in episode 2 that the king doesn’t have a dragon anymore, he was the last rider of balerion the black dread, the same dragon that aegon the conquerer rode, but it died when the king was younger
Forgot to add that balerions skull was the one surrounded by candles where the king talks about aegons dream
sir crispy's a little bitch
alicent started wearing red and black after she married the king bc she was a targaryean now but this was her subtly saying fuck you
The King does not currently have a dragon, no. When it comes to dragons, each dragon rider can only have on dragon in their lifetime, and he was the last rider of Balerion the Black Dread, which was Aegon the Conqueror's dragon, and has since passed. He discussed this in a previous episode when walking with Lady Laena when she was a child. He only got to ride him once
has this been canonically confirmed?
also for the stupids, riding Balerion for a person like Viserys is actually kinda insane; that dragon was a warmonger and would engulf whole towns under the shadow it cast. In the books, he even breathed black fire.
Maybe not in the show, but in the books. It's heavily implied in the show, with this being a good example given he never formed a bond with another dragon
Yeah, no, I meant the book. From what I rememebered, I thought this was just an in-world assumption, and not something actually tested or confirmed. Though I do recall GRRM's blogpost about HoTD S2, and I was wondering if the confirmation came from there.
demon's doing crime hoody
The thing about this series, expect a time jump between every episode. HOTD is like a few months/years pass in between episodes.
Viserys did have a dragon briefly, he mentioned in an easier episode that he was the last rider of Balerion, the Black Dread before the dragon died
For all the obvious misogyny that goes into preventing women from ruling at this time in “history”, there is some practicality to it based on the systems that were in place at the time. We started the series with the Queen dying from childbirth which would have been ridiculously common at the time. One of the main duties for a ruler is to crate heirs to secure their line, a thing very easy for a man to do but potentially deadly for a woman to do. A king can just take new wives and father endless children with an incubator queen, while a female ruler would need to endanger herself every time
I think we can agree people name Joffrey, don’t do well at weddings. 😬
Otto may be wrong or right about what Rhaenyra would do, but the fact is he is the one who put his daughter in a position to have children by the king, therefore he is the one who put those children in danger of being killed by/on behalf of Rhaenyra
