Wednesday Episode 1-2 Reaction
Bran is like kinda a bad guy right like it seems like the three eyes careful planned everything out in order for him to become king
for me what made me the most upset is how dumb the battles were. They have these castles and tacticians I was expecting them fighting the dead all the way south. Not them just sending the dothraki straight out into the night to die then having tons of soldiers dying while getting back inside the walls when they should have just been in there to begin with.
Jon has been so invisible this entire arc, never having any moments
and even Dany even though she obviously is a prominent character, we seriously did not see much of her to make her arc feel good or make us feel connected to her and understand her.
Great ride this was
Unless you have Bran who is not Bran but The Tree Eyed Raven plan was to have john kill the Queen Dany and Arya kill the White Walkers who seemingly wanted to kill The 3 Eyed raven. My theory is Bran is the Villain
Notice Danny walking into the throne room mirrors her vision of it back when she faced the Warlocks that had stolen her dragons in Quarth
No one was gonna like the ending regardless what the outcome was, since the books never had an ending
You should watch and react to the Alt Shift X videos on youtube on Thrones
Even though Bran said he couldn't have titles lol what a stupid ending
Bran took it so easy.
The whole speech Tyrion made to Jon about HE is the only one who can choose.
The perfect balance of Fire and Ice.
He should be King with Tyrion as Hand and Sansa as Queen of the North with Bran as Hand maybe.
It felt that they chose this BECAUSE they wanted to be niche and do the opposite of what was expected.
Whole season was rushed, I was okay with 80% of what happened as end results but not the way they did it. Arya should have killed Cersei, Jon kill the NK and become King and I know people will say "oh just want your face character to get happy ending" it's not that tbh it's just that the wholestoryhas ledto it 🤷🏻♂️ to abandon it is to just be different for the sake of it.
Arya ending fine, Sansa fine. Everyone nearly but this.
So rushed too.
Would love to see move videos of additional GOT content. Tier list, reactions to extra material, etc.
Funfact. Sansa's dress has an element for each family member. It's extremely detailed . I love how Sansa's hair and wardrobe always reflected her as a character, and how now that she is Queen in the north she wears her hair loose
Jon didn't want to rule, but also he wanted to be in the North. I honestly think Jon got the best ending. He spent all the previous seasons putting others before him, choosing duty over happiness, and now his fighting is done and he gets to actually fucking retire.
Yeah, I watch to the end fellas.
Nobody talking about what Tyrion did with an adult donkey and honey?... In a brothel.
I will accept Brienne's ending as Kingsguard is justified. Almost everything else isn't when you really deep it. The writers felt sympathy for Cersei for some reason and kept repeating the bit about her loving her children causing Tyrion to suddenly believe she had any good in her despite knowing how reckless, stupid and uncaring Cersei us in the past. The writers thought other people empathised with Cersei as they did, which is why her and Jamie's ending made no sense, ruined Jamie's development and had no pay off. The openly said they think themes are for book reports which in itself so so much about their writing. Themes exist for a reason. Subverting expectations for the sake of it is shallow and that's why people are disappointed.
Would love you to watch one of the more intelligent game of thrones reviews to just have all the horror laid out for you in one place
Watch the GoT Honest Trailers! Those are fun
I personally, like you guys said, dont hate the end end, but I don't love the execution to get to some of these endings. I'm ok with how everyone's stories ended cause I felt like it did make sense.
I think this channel might've been one of my favorite discoveries of the year and I can't wait for house of the dragon!!!
That wasn’t snow it was ash from everything burning
love the reactions, excited to see it continue with house of dragon. glad you took it how it is and seemed to enjoy pretty much the whole thing. must be a good show when you have to nitpick to complain
I'm glad you guys liked Thrones, but I also take your opinions/ratings with a grain of salt because there is a huge difference watching the show as it comes out over 8 years vs bingeing it over 8 months. I still love seasons 1-6 and 7 is good but has it's flaws, then 8 just fumbles so badly with so many characters just for the sake of not being predicitable. At the time Jamie (Kingslayer of the Mad King) had a good arc of overcoming the abuisive relation ship he had with Circe and could come full circle with it by killing the Mad Queen, but no if you see it coming it can't be good we must suprise the audience with bad writing.
Characters have been assassinated in the last few seasons. Not everyone has started their downfall from season 5 onwards, but most of them. One of those that were beginning get assassinated earlier was Jaimie.
In the books he didn't rape Cersei over Joffrey's corpse. Afterwards he became more likeable again but that was a weird stain to randomly throw on him from nowhere. Also, his whole character is that he was King's guard to the mad king and he killed him for the purpose of saving the hundreds of thousands of people living in King's landing, ruining his whole reputation. He sacrificed his life for the sake of the small people. He walked away from Cersei to go fight the undead, leaving her due to how monstrous he felt her decision not to help was. Once the dead vanquished, he laid with Brienne. Then right after all of this, he leaves Brienne who he loves, goes back to the person he finds monstrous and says that he never cared for the lives of the innocent. Quite literally just 180° turn. Why? They didn't know what the fuck they were doing and wanted to be done with the show so that they could go on and produce something with the star wars license.
Most characters, I can write similar paragraphs for. I know you guys didn't dislike it as much as most people, but to me, if you dig down and really take time to look at the details of the show, which, I spent a lot of time doing, I'm left with mostly just grown worthy logic and pained expressions from me. Most everything passed season 7 is probably a 2/10 for me. If I had to give a my favorite for season 8, it'd probably be episode 2, with a 5/10. Season 7, probably episode 6, with a 4/10. It's not good, but the logic on display, the plan, the rescue mission, their predicament, the marathon run in the snow by someone who has never seen snow in his life, the night king not throwing the spear at Dragon who is completely still and their only way to escape, if you didn't want them to be in imminent danger of death, make the scene different, make the night king arrive as they are leaving and then he takes out the most still dragon or something. It's so bad it's funny to me, no other reason for it to be this high.
It's just not been the same show. They made bad after bad decision and threw it all in a pit. Season 5 can be fine, but it's more like a 6/10 to me whereas everything before it was around a 9-9.5/10
Grey Worm teleporting, deciding to accept the meeting's proposal instead of killing Jon who killed his last reason he was fighting for, dragon understanding the hierarchical symbolism and destroying it, the Dothraki blood riders not killing Jon and killing per their blood riders traditions, Grey Worm letting Tyrion talk at all after telling him to shut up multiple times, all dumb things tossed to the side to pave the way for a "good" ending.
Also, Davos offering the unsullied to take some lands and start families, to people who internally have no cock and balls is another level of dumbassery.
So house of dragons next week? 🫡
Cersei said Tyrion would be the end of their house in season 1. the full circle is crazy.
Just wanna point out that Jon is Daenerys' nephew, not her cousin. Which just kinda feels even weirder to me.
Also, in the books, the Iron Throne is made of a thousand swords. It was made so that, in the words of Aegon I, 'a king should never sit easy'. It is not possible to lean back against the throne, or even lounge in any way, without being lacerated. Quite a few rulers have been sliced to the bone because of this, and Maegor I was actually killed because of the throne.
The Iron Throne is not a symbol of tyranny, but of how a ruler should act. They should never become comfortable and complacent with their position. They are there to serve the Realms, not rule them.
Game of Thrones is my favorite show regardless of the ending, yes, I had different expectations, but who cares, it was great
My dislike for the later seasons primary falls on stupid conclusions to character arcs. Even in season 5, they nerfed Littlefinger, which made his eventual demise less satisfying. They also made Tyrion, who used to be a great player of the game, an idiot. Then here, they nerfed Varys to make him stupid enough to get caught in treason. I honestly believe they can't write intelligent characters, so when they ran out of GRRM's content, the quality cratered.
The perfect narrative conclusion to BOTH Jaime and Cersei's arc would have been for Jaime to kill Cersei, once again saving King's Landing from fiery annihilation. Not only would this reinforce Jaime's journey from villain to hero, showing that once he's free from his sister and father, he's not an evil man...but also it would have given Cersei her proper comeuppance, to have her lover and brother see her for who she really is, and end her life. The Mountain could even have cut down Jaime after that and I would have been fine with it. Not a happy ending, but a FITTING ending.
Jon's arc through the entire series was a lead-up to fighting the Night King, and he didn't even get to do it. Instead his big moment was killing Dany, which...I don't HATE, but also could have been given to Arya or even Tyrion, while Jon ends the Night King. Jon ending up on the throne would have been fitting, IMO, but I never expected that happy an ending, so I'm not bothered by the fact he wasn't. But Bran being King...mixed emotions on that one. Especially coming off the heels of Tyrion's "who has a better story" speech. Who has a better story? Jon. Arya. Sansa. Freaking Podrick Payne even.
Sansa becoming queen of an independent North is a fitting conclusion to her character, but I wish we could have seen her being Littlefinger's disciple during seasons 5 and 6, overtaking him in cunning and eventually being his demise. I know she was partially his demise in the real season 7, but it was mostly the result of Bran, rather than her own cunning.
Aside from the character arc conclusions, there's also just the plain stupidity in the writing. The Unsullied and Dothraki have no reason to give over Jon, nor to allow the Lords of Westeros to choose a new king. In fact, they have every reason not to. Or to give up the lands they conquered. When Dothraki lose their leader, they don't meekly disperse. There should have been untold pillaging, raping and destruction. I can maybe buy the Dothraki leaving, but not without Jon's head.
Anyway, it's not a terrible ending in general terms. But relative to the show's absolute brilliance in seasons 1-4, and parts of seasons 5 and 6, it's a painful pill to swallow.
Actually, now that I think of it, wouldn't Jon have become the Dothraki leader by default? I mean Dany got it by killing the other Khals, so Jon killed her. It's how they transfer leadership through death and combat. I mean even the fact that Drogon didn't kill him for it should have meant something to them.
The fact is that Jon could've just stayed in the North. Like... The North is independent. So if Bran would've said banishment he could've built a home near Winterfell and just lived there
You may get House of the Dragon spoilers watching GoT lore videos!!! Be wary
I usually like things that the crowd doesn't, but in this case I'm genuinely surprised you were as kind to this season as you were. I think you should look up a lot of the behind the scenes stuff from back when it aired to get a better understanding of just how bad it was.
Saying that Jon didnt have his moment is wrong. He killed the one who took the iron throne by slaughtering a whole city. The women he loved and also his family. But sure if you think its the wrong moment but he still played a big part in the story and he got to go with the wildling like he wanted in the end.

Marvel might be doing Kit worst right now. His character hasn’t been seen in almost 5 years now
"I always know a killer when I see one" is such a funny line, like damn Arya how could you tell?
I personally enjoys the indebt end discussions and stuff like that, wish you do it more and for everything you watch.
I'll let you guys enjoy it. Season 5 onwards was just a considerable drop off with dumb decisions by characters who should've known better, logistical minutiae that, if you don't care about, you can ignore for bad editing, poor choices by the writers to rush an ending they wanted done. But my thought was, this was a series about consequences; Ned told Cersei his plans because he was honourable, he lost his head, Robb made his decisions with ignoring his duties and lost his head for it, the list goes on, and yet, Cersei blows up the sept killing hundreds, if not thousands and the small folk dont care? Beric mentions every time hes brought back he loses some of himself, yet Jon comes back the same person? Arya kills the entire Frey family and its mentioned off-handedly once, Bran can see everywhere always and he never meaningfully uses it (even in this episode; "Where is Drogon?" "we dont know" "I can find him".... why ask?). The Dothraki are sent as a vanguard in the Long Night, we see two or three return next to Jorah and yet there are still hundreds in Kings Landing (made even worse by the writers commentary for the episode "What were seeing is the end of the Dothraki" in the Long Night). Euron snipes Rhaegal with 3 bolts then the next episode not a single scorpion bolt hits Drogon swooping in lines in Kings Landing? "Oh it was a surprise attack on Rhaegal!" (and again the writer commentary strikes again "Dany sort of forgot about the Iron Fleet" You mean the one she mentioned and was talking about 2 scenes prior?), the reason for Roberts Rebellion, literally needed to be able to work out context clues in the first 4 books to answer this question "Who was Jon Snows mother?" in order to gain rights to make the show, a namesake of the SERIES A song of Ice and Fire, Aegon Targaryen or Jon Snow meant nothing. Nothing at all. I could go on and on and on and on but thats sort of the point. Yes it looked amazing, that shot of Dany with Drogon behind her was masterful, Peter Dinklages acting when discovering his siblings was heart wrenching (the floor 5 metres to their right was clear, they didnt even need to have died like that... But I digress)
It had such potential to go down as the greatest tv show of all time and almost 40% of it just missed and missed and missed and its sullied the entire show for it. Seasons 1-4 were amazing. Some of the best TV ever and will never be topped. But I just can't see the second half of the series being the amazing tv show it used to be.
I'm glad you enjoyed it though, I guess I've just become too cynical.
couldn't have worded it better myself.
I think there are multiple considerations on top of this as well.
A) On rewatch you notice the number of things squandered more clearly. There are so many threads in this show to follow, small and big that it obscures the ones not paid off or poorly paid off. Which because you know how things go on a rewatch, you notice said other ones more clearly.
B) Imagine waiting for this all to come up. The whole world was speculating. This ended is both counter to what the majority expected and wanted whilst also being the most boring version of a sudden twist.
the writers had gotten hired to make some star wars movies so they rushed to end the show and then didnt even end up getting to make anything for star wars so it just feels like they wasted the ending of the best show
Not only is there no need for the Nights Watch, The Unsullied also are the ones that wanted him gone. They immediately leave, whos going to be upset if Jon came back?
I loved re-watching this with you guys. Thanks for giving me my weekly entertainment. Can’t wait to watch House of the dragons with you guys.
Man I wish I could watch this episodes with any form of positivity but I actually think rewatching this season has only reinforced how terrible I think the last seasons are.
Its been awesome watching this with yall can't wait for house of the dragon
Thank you for the GOT journey once again... Ive seen this show 3 times and countless reactions, yours among the best. I basically have the same opinion as you guys. Love the show, probably my favorite show of all time, yea there are definetly issues towards the last couple seasons but I still enjoy them.
Like I said in a previous comment, it wasn't what happened that had me scratching my head a lot, it's HOW they happened. The manner and speed with which they happened. So yeah, see yall in House of the Dragon.
After house of dragons the “knight of the seven kingdoms” will probably be out lol
Nah don't sell yourselves short guys, I love watching all the way through. Getting the end-of-episode discussion with y'all is one of the best parts of the videos cuz its the breakdown of an ep with full context. Always here for it, always appreciate your thoughts.
Final thoughts though: It seems like the biggest consensus (aside from The Night King's and Cersei's deaths), is that the last three seasons didn't have time to breathe. If the showrunners had known what to do with s7 and s8 as full seasons, I think they wouldn't have started speeding the pace in s6. We would've gotten 7 more eps, 7 whole hours! Almost a full extra season, with plenty of time to better watch Dany slide into tyranny, better time to do what Boom said and fix that metaphor of the empty council seats with characters good enough to fill them (love that insight btw), maybe some White Walker lore, and MAYBE even keep the ending the same, NK/Cersei/Bran as king and all, but with better. Context.
Still one of the greatest shows of all time, shame they tripped over the landing and fumbled that gold prize. Still worth every minute.
In my head cannon the seasons change and the south becomes a snow covered part of the continent and I think its going to last a long time because the south is just not prepared for a normal winter, let alone if it lasts thousands of years. The north becomes a thriving temperate kingdom and develops a thriving culture.
I wonder if the Night King was the main source of winter. Not just for the long night but for all winter years. As if the years they had long winters were years the Night King was waking to build his army little by little. The bigger it got the longer the winters got and when they went back to sleep the spring and summer years arrived. I keep thinking back to the first episode and the opening act with the walkers killing Night’s watchmen. They killed everyone and at first left a little ritual killing alter just for them to rise 5 minutes later. They even clearly let a watchmen escape south to warn others. They’ve had at least four or five ritual like killings where they left a sign like the spiral made of horse heads or limbs. I wonder if that was a way to draw their power or mass it for the storm to go where they wanted. Anyway can’t make a definitive judgement until they give us more lol.
please watch yellowstone if you love tv shows with good dialogue like this then highly recommend
All I’m gonna say is this: Sansa’s first born son better be named Theon Stark
Honestly I agree and can definitely see her doing that
I think my all time favorite take about this episode comes from Castle Super Beast and how Drogon proves Dragons understand narrative symbolism.
WATCH HOUSE OF THE DRAGON PLEEEAASSSEE
They have been saying that they will in pretty much every episode including this one
mfs just be commenting
If you want to see some of the awesome acting from the actor who plays Sansa's uncle, I think you guys could like the show Outlander. Erick and Bri would probs like it too.
I would love to see them watch outlander omg
Remember your Doctor Who experiences, that was not snow at the beginning of the episode, it was ash...
Bran is literally the smartest Choice to be King. he can see everything and knows everything. Sansa getting Power greedy at the end was abit odd, considering the King is a Stark. but overall great conclusion to the show
Drogon be like. if mum cant sit on it, nobody can sit on it
Books depict Jon so much differently
God this episode is so fucking stupid
You could say it's... Sorta Stupid
*Insert CSI Miami Won't get fooled again sound clip.*
i feel like yall should have discussed jamies character arc more. thats one of peoples least fav parts of the show. he became a fan fav character and then they ruined and cotradicted his character arc in the last 2 seasons.
Throne bros now that GoT ends do you think you will be back with Doctor Who anytime this year or winter?
They mentioned they're doing HoTD then KotSK when it comes out. There's a chance they'd wanna do Doctor Who because of Matt Smith, but that chance is small
I realized just now that Brien and Sam shouldn´t be part of the lords meeting or at least shouldn´t have any say in who gets to be King. Sam holds no title since he is a maester and from the Nights Watch, so he is a regular dude. Brien is a regular Knight but you could excuse her beeing there as Sansa´s bodyguard, she shouldn´t be allowed to vote though.
Also her whole deal is keeping Oaths, her sword is called Oathkeeper but instead of beeing Sansa´s Queensguard she decided to even switch kingdoms and became the kingsguard of Bran.
That makes no sense at all.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres on January 18, 2026…. 2 and a half months away :)
The writers reached the “Eh, fuck it” point by this season because they got offered a deal to make a series of Star Wars films…. Then their deal got rescinded when Disney noticed their dip in writing quality from this season.
There's plenty wrong with this episode but I'll just mention some parts at the very end as it's fresh in my memory.
The White Book is meant to hold the achievements of EVERY member of the Kingsguard. We only see 3 names outright: Ser Arthur Dayne, Ser Barristan Selmy, and Ser Jaime Lannister. The were dozens of other members of the Kingsguard who served between the service of these 3 and yet we see Brienne essentially go staright from Ser Barristan to Ser Jaime. However, I am aware it's a show and things have to be simplified for viewing time etc. etc.
But that's not my only issue with The White Book. Pause on the pages of the book, as I did, and you will find a myriad of mistakes, including, but not limited to; 'Beric Dayne of the House Starfall', when it should be House Dayne, the clue is literally right fucking there! 'Named The Bold in his 15th tourney', excuse me? I think you mean a tourney in his 15th year. 'Duncan, Prince of Dagonflies' WHAT?! It's Prince of Dragonstone. You know, that place that's been integral to the show for literal seasons at this point?! 'Knighted and named to the Kingsguard in his sixteenth year', hold on, it says earlier in the book, literally a few pages beforehand, that Jaime was knighted in his fifteenth year by Sir Arthur Dayne.
If you're going to be wrong about the lore, at least be consistent in your incorrectness.
One final rant, then I'm done, promise. A Song of Ice and Fire. That, I have no problem with, I find it kind of poetic in a way. What I do have issue with, is the fact that Tyrion isn't mentioned. Fucking what? The book is meant to tell the history of the wars following the death of King Robert, wars that Tyrion was instrumental in. He led the defence of King's Landing during the Battle of the Blackwater, almost dying in the process. He was wrongly accused and sentenced to death for the murder of Joffrey. He murdered his own father, which directly led to the downfall of House Lannister. He served as Daenerys' priciple advisor in Slaver's Bay after his escape from prison. He then served as Hand of the Queen to Daenerys during her conquest of Westeros and then as Hand of the King to Bran, who he got elected King in the first place! It's a slap in the face of the character for the small payoff of a bad joke. Tyrion not only deserved better but he deserved to be the focal point of that book.
Rant over, sorry =)
I've followed all y'all's post episode discussion, I like hearing people's thoughts on anything I like just to see what u guys thought of it. There were a few things that they did right, the hound being one of them. However us fans who hold onto grrm's words like us who hold onto jrrt's words were mainly let down with this season due to shock over logic. George said he made it a point in his books that he input logic over shock value, and that's evident with the earlier seasons. And when Dave and David rushed these last seasons all logic was thrown away just for cheap shock value. Overall this show is still about a 7/10 but not among the greats like a breaking bad or an Avatar The Last Airbender. Those were some 10/10 shows and this one could've been, if they didn't rush it.
There was actually a Jon Snow spin-off planned but it got delayed and then ultimately scrapped. I think there was also talks of a possible Arya spin-off that never got off the ground as well. I’m happy we got House of the Dragon though.
Watched the full discussion and I agree with what you said about re-watching, I was shocked by some of the writing choices in season 8 (Arya/Night King or King Brann) but I've seen this show MANY times now and it doesn't always leave this weird sensation when you know what's going to happen. As you said Ruff, you can just enjoy it for what it is and that's exactly how I see it. So glad you both took this journey and can't wait for HOTD, you guys are gonna love it!
To give you guys an idea of how it was when the season was coming out, the "inside the episodes" that played after every single episode didn't help things. The creators would say things like...
"Dany forgot about the Iron Fleet." The thing that all the characters were literally just discussing at the war table before the sniped her dragon out of the sky with 3 perfect shots.
"We are seeing the end of the Dothraki." Very next episode, they say only half the Dothraki were killed.
There are some other issues throughout the season.
Battle of Winterfell: they put siege weapons on the outside of the castle walls and sent all their calvary into literal darkness to be slaughtered. All the mains characters are frequently buried under the zombies obky for one zombie to get hit and they are all just fine. They changed the order of the "eyes you'll shut forever" thing with Arya to make it seem like they had always planned for her to kill the Night King. And obviously Arya teleporting to kill the Night King.
Epiaode 4: Euron snipes a dragon out of the sky with perfectly accurate shots from miles away.
Episode 5: Dany nuking Kings Landing AFTER she won the battle. Jamie says he doesn't care about people when that was literally the reason he became the Kingslayer, he gave up his honor to save Kingslanding when he killed the Mad King. Arya somehow was the one person to survive the total destruction of Kings Landing.
Episode 6: Dany went full dictator. Drogon sees Jon has killed Dany and is either the smartest creature alive or really dumb. Either Drogon knew that the world of politics and kings was the REAL reason Dany was killed and destroyed the symbol of that system... or he saw the pointy thing killed her and destroyed the pointy thing in the room. Somehow a murder trial turned into "Let's pick a king." Bran is a better choice for Master of Whispers, not king. The Starks basically just took total control of the continent. They get the 6 kingdoms+ their own kingdom just for themselves, nobody else does though. The Unsullied want Jon exiled...but then they immediately leave, so Jon could literally turn around and go through the massive hole in the Wall. Arya decides to go West based off one conversation she had in season 6. Why wasn't Tyrion mentioned in the "Song of Ice and Fire" book? He temporarily served as Joffery's hand of the king, he was publicly convicted of killing Joffery, the Prince of Dorne was killed fighting for Tyrion in a Trial by combat, Tyrion killed Tywin who was Hand of the King, and Tyrion served as Hand to both Dany and Bran, why is he not in the book other than for the joke? Why is Bron master of coin? He should be Master of War since he is famously bad with money by his own admission.
Granted the internet echo chamber didn't help things, but the show definitely dropped the ball.
I watched all the way to the end. Personally, I'm not a hard woman to please. I enjoy most of what I watch. I don't sit and hate much. It's an incredibly rare thing for me. I enjoyed the Star Wars sequel trilogy. I enjoyed Sucker Punch. I enjoyed Twilight. I enjoy a lot of stuff that most people would consider just pure crap. I even enjoy Harry Potter still despite the writer basically advocating that I don't deserve to live. I don't pay to indulge that last one of course, nor do I engage with the fandom all that much anymore, but I enjoy it. That being said... the last leg of this show, it infuriates me how much it sucks. It's the only show or movie that I feel that strongly about.
I might be sorta stupid, but when Tyrion found his siblings, during that scene, at the back I saw that the dragon skull had no rubble beneath it —well, not as much —and since it takes a lot to destroy dragon bones, shouldn't it have made sense for them to hide beneath it?
I have to point out to you, if this show was what it built itself up to be, you would not have 30 minutes of criticisms when it was over. I'm on the other side watching your reactions. I can see that you didn't enjoy this as much as you have enjoyed so many other things. You're trying to. You really want it. But you can't enjoy it. It won't let you have that no matter how hard you try. That was me as well. I wanted to like it so desperately. But it just left me feeling empty at the end. I did cry for Tyrion when he found the last of his family dead. But that's not because of anything that happened in these last three seasons. It's because of everything before it. Everything good about these last three seasons fully relies on what was set up in the first five. None of it stands on its own.
So fun fact about the island of Naath, its famed for its butterfly’s which carry a deadly disease that cause your flesh to separate from the bones and slide off… and only the people of Naath are immune. So grey worm is sailing for almost certain death.
The longer you sit with it, the more you will despise the last three seasons of this show. And when you watch the first five seasons again knowing what happens, you will despise the last three seasons even more. House of the Dragon has been incredible so far. I hope it manages to stick the landing when we get there.
A big part of the anger I think, was that it was an 8 year build, and it was everywhere. It also had the problem a lot of super popular long-running things have that I hate, when people for some reason act like being a fan of it is a personality trait in the same way Harry Potter fans do with the houses.
The writers were chosen to write a new star wars series. That was a big deal. There was a rumor going around back then. Apparently they did not want to continue with GoT which was what HBO wanted. They wanted to move on to Star Wars. In order to to that they rushed the last season but beacuse they've rushed it they did a terrible job which made people angry. Then the funny thing is Disney kicked them out from the Star Wars project. We don't know why Disney did that but it is funny to see them not be able to write SW the very thing that may have caused them to rush GoT. Justice yayy
Please react to some of the histories and lore videos from the show. They are animations narrated by the actors. They talk about stuff like Robert's Rebellion etc. It will help you a lot with understanding GoT and House of the Dragon
The world is round
Okay the unsell leader gone. Bring John back
Solid season but the Night King being defeated in just one episode and making Danny Targaryen evil in the end put a damper on it personally for me, felt slightly rushed, but overall amazing series. Very excited for House of the Dragon
By the end, John's story has no point and has no mean meaning
The lady from the iron Islands has nothing to say about independence at all. Really that's bull crap
Brian may be immortal and be possessed by the soul of an ancient elf. The children of the forest finally succeeded in conquering men
As we all know dragons understand thematic concepts in symmetry
Bran asking "Why do you think I came all this way?" Might be one of the most evil things I've ever heard a main character say. Dude knew Danaerys would burn Kings Landing and all its people to the ground but allowed it so he would be king
Sure but he really isnt a normal human anymore, and he even said "I dont want anymore" so I took it as him speaking from a purely logical standpoint -- but it could be just me because I never minded him being the new king. I had plenty of other disappointments in the season, he wasnt one of them.
Does Bran have future sight? We know he has 20/20 vision of past events, but I'm not so sure about the future. If you have some references, let me know.
I thought he meant he traveled all the way from the north after seeing Danaerys burn King's Landing, Tyrion's conversation with Jon, and Jon's assassination of Daenarys. It would take months for him to travel that distance giving him many time to inspect the history and travel of the folks that would be there.
Yes, literally the start of his powers is getting futuresight. At the time it's in dreams and vague, like when he had a dream about going down into the crypt, then when they go down there Rickon is there saying he had the same dream about their dad being in the crypt, then an episode or so later Ned is beheaded. He dreamt about the sea coming to winterfell and killing everyone, then the ironborn took over Winterfell and Osha tells him it's his dream. That's all before he even becomes the three eyed raven. After that, as someone else already mentioned, we see the shot of Drogon flying over the city when he first gets his 3ER powers, and then see that same shot again this season confirming Bran saw that happen
He says in an earlier episode that he gets glimpses or visions. We also see a snippet of him seeing Drogon flying over King's Landing. Also I'm not sure how else to interpret him saying why do you think i came all this way if he didnt know he would become king after all this
I will say one thing you guys aren't considering for the reaction at release is time spent. I watched this show with my cousin for 6 years. It's kinda hard not to account feeling like our time was wasted, especially with this last season. I had criticisms for season 7, but like you guys I was still hopeful. But yeah, after episode 3, I just felt like all that great tv I watched was a waste. Rewatching with y'all wasn't nearly as bad, but after watching the 7 seasons leading up again, the Elmer glue keeping it all together becomes really noticeable. Glad we're done, and now...HOUSE OF THE DRAGON!!
Jamie should have killed Cersei. Also, they should have like.. showed Jon giving himself up or something. Cause nobody was around. Drogon flies off with her body. Or had sounds of people running up.
stoked you will be doing hod, still havent even seen it even though ive been an hbo sub since got ended lmao
also did a massive fart while typing this just so you know
I just feel like all logic was thrown out at the end. Drogon burning a throne he has no attachment to or knowledge of a dragon is an animal an intelligent one but still an animal. We are going to have the same problem with Bran that we had with the other kings without dragons. Endless rebellions because Bran lacks the diplomacy needed to be a good ruler because he is an emotionless husk. Choosing a King after another's dead is actually why the Roman Empire was so successful for so long with their emperors so I do like that bit. Sansa being the only one to have her own kingdom. Shit if I was the others I'd be like yeah I want that too. That's the whole point to preserve it all you can't let one bit defect then everyone would want to. Grey Worm letting Jon live when he literally killed every Lannister soldier down to the last man. make it make sense.
HOTD season 1 is cool, a solid 8 I think. S2? Maybe a 6 at best, not the best, really slow and dragged out. There’s a lot of story left to tell though too
"Some of you don't know our names after watching us for a year or two..." Wow man, that was a dead bullseye on me. I love you guys, but I'm terrible with names.
So I still standby that I think this finale is strong.. but it's HEAVILY weighed down by the writing in Season 7 and 8. I feel like Dany and Bran and Jon would have made more sense if we had better writing to get to that point. And Tyrion constantly taking Ls... so many small little details that overall made this finale frustratingly unsatisfying in so many ways.
So the books are very different. Even though the show was leaning on Cersei being on Arya's list, you'll need to completely wipe this show from your mind and not carry any lingering expectations. These are functionally different characters with different characterizations, different histories. In the show, when Cersei visited the witch, they left out the last part where the witch told her how she would die. Cersei is prophesized by Maggy to die at the hands of the valonqar. There are lots of fan theories on who this is.
It just ended up with a Stark at rule in every part of the continent. Bran in the South, Sansa in the North and Jon in the True North. The only one who wants to rule is Sansa. I'm pretty sure Jon wants to be in the True North because he felt the most free there and you see him walking from the commanders chamber, so I'm pretty sure he's kinda king of the True North. And there is still shit there if I'm correct. There are still dire wolves and ice spiders. xD
Yup, and then their uncle is in charge of the Riverlands, and their cousin of the Vale. The rest of the great lords also have some ties to Starks, even if kinda loosely. Gendry Baratheon was "in love" with Arya, and served with Jon. I was going to say Brienne of Tarth, but I forgot she joined the Kingsguard. Yara has a connection through her brother, which she may honor because he's dead. I guess Dorne is really the only one that has zero connection to Starks at this point lol
After rewatching this episode for the 2nd time, the ending is somewhat tolerable. BRANN SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN KING, that was stupid, everything else was alright
Idk why nobody likes the fact that Jon went beyond the wall again lol he literally wanted that. He would have gone with the wildlings when they left towards the end. The entire time Jon is like "i don't want the iron throne" yet everyone keeps trying to put him on the iron throne lolol
The reaction of Jon being sent back to the Wall is exactly what I've been waiting for 🤣
So excited for HOTD! Be careful with lore videos for GOT bc a lot of them will inadvertently spoil HOTD just by like looking at the Targaryen family tree or something similar. HOTD is technically spoiled in GOT by Stannis's daughter when she is reading a book, but ya'll probably don't remember that.
I think it's the season 5 history and lore segments that are the ones that spoil HotD
It was also spoiled by Joffrey at some point, something that hasn't even happened in HotD show yet
Haven't watched the discussion at the end yet, but I will say that there is a big difference between watching this show each week, each year as it airs, and then getting to binge it all in one go in a few months to a year like y'all have. Which I think you both have mentioned at one point anyway, so you understand that already of course. But yeah, watching this show as it aired, things can be way more hyped that way, and then also way more of a disappointment when they don't go how you think. Also, I have seen many people who liked it on their first watch, and then after thinking about it or rewatching, they realized more and more the flaws. I was kinda like that too. I enjoyed watching this as it aired, but then afterwards when you think about some of the decisions made you kinda wonder what tf happened.
Also yeah, sending Jon to the Night's Watch was never meant to be a real punishment, just something to get the Unsullied off their backs. Everyone there most likely knew he would just go North to be with the wildlings, and to me that was his true happy ending. If only Ygritte were still alive. At least he's married to her actress IRL
I am proudly on of the 10! iykyk
the most common complaints I heard was how they handled Dany, people didn't like how she want from liberator to tyrant, it felt rushed like a last minute decision, I think people would have preferred her to have not destroyed kings landing and take the throne not like her ancestors did. the whole Arya killing the night king was predicted from season 1 or 2 so I think most people were fine with it, it made more for a better story than if Jon did it. most people hated Bran being king mainly because people just didn't like the character.
Dany's road was always in the story I predicted her becoming a tyrant probably second season when I first watched with all the forshadowing of targerian madness so I very much disagree with it being last minute decision. I do agree that the final season was very rushed
Arya killing the night king was not at all predicted that early on, in fact the writers have specifically admitted that the biggest reason Jon didn't kill the Night King was because it was too predictable. Logic suggests they wouln't have let Arya kill him, if the audience could've predicted it. Though I do agree that Dany burning King's Landing was a death knell to the reception of the show, Jon not being Azor Ahai was 1000% something that a lot of the audience disliked.
I disagree that it made a better story than if Jon did
I think the hate is not just the night king being defeated in one episode but ALSO the whole Danny going evil, it just felt rushed and not earned . character assassination in my opinion
The arrogance of the showrunners is half the reason people hate on the last couple seasons. As you guys said, they could have easily hired more people or passed on the project if they lost interest. But instead, they speedran the ending and wanted flowers. They said that they expected people to "debate whether this finale was an A or an A-" in the commentary...
YAYYY! Now we're gonna get 'House of the dragon'! I'm so excited for y'all to watch it!
Genuinely so excited for House of the Dragon, but just an fyi, the first season does cover a fair amount of time and there is some actor swaps, so definitely focus on remembering names over faces at the start. Its been a great journey!
time definitely moves quickly, but it doesn't feel like GOT with their fast travel or like they are rushing things. It may feel jarring for the first few episodes to realize how much time has passed, but once you get to later episodes it makes perfect sense why they did that.
There is a video of the cast and writers doing a script reading and the actor for Varys seemed visibly angry with how he died and threw the script in front of him. The problem some people had with the show wasn't the production as the show does look good, it was the writing and how characters were acting. Without the books to guide them, the writers didn't know how to handle them. Plus with prospects of wanting to do other things, it definitely affected this show. You should definitely look into the books, whether actually reading or listening to them or watching videos about them to know the difference. Also yeah as you mentioned, the timing of how everything worked is very different in the later seasons when time and distance used to matter and now not so much.
If Geroge R.R. Martin wasn't such a lazy fatass and finished writing the books, we might've had a more tolerable ending
I really doubt it lol, D&D strayed from the books long before the show got to the point they couldn't adapt more source material
combined comments to not clutter the page
1) recommendation of things to watch:
*Histories and Lore* (which are extras in the physical copies you have of GoT); note: there are segments that you should skip because they spoil House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but other people who have seen that more recently can pinpoint which ones, I belive the first four seasons are pretty safe of spoilers.
*Anything from Alt Schift X*, though keep in mind a lot of them do spoil plotlines that were cut from the books, the ones I personally would recommend is the Euron Greyjoy's apocalypse, Kingslayer: how will Jaime's story end, Dorne, and the Real Tyrion Lannister or Jon Snow
2) In defense of Jon's ending, I honestly think he kinda had one of, if not the best, endings for a character in the show; like he get's banished to the night's watch, immediately abandons it, and settles in the true north with the Free Folk. he basically got his dream to live there when Ygritte was still alive, free of the oaths that he was bound under. How he got there is a pretty different story though.
3) I compare this finale a lot with HIMYM's finale, in that I really hated them when I first watched it, and overtime hove grown to almost like them or atleast see what the writer's were trying to do. I also feel, that the general audience would not have turned on these show's if they changed two specific things for himym it was the death and divorce; for GOT, it was Arya killing the Night King and Daenerys going Mad and burning King's Landing.
4) miscellanious thoughts
- I'm curious what Erik's thoughts of the season was, cause I remember his cameo in the brain explosion episode, and his reaction when ya'll mentioned the finale
-there's something so funny to me about the image of a collapsing roof on the Lannister twins last episode, but have them be under only one layer of bricks in this episode
-Gendry has both the claim from Robert as his bastard, and from Dany having been legitimized by her. the fact that they didn't even mention him as a possibility is insane, instead the writers just wasted time by making fun of the character from the books they REALLY hated (Edmure)
-Why the fuck did Davos suggest to the army of eunuchs to settle lands and found families of their own???
-Bronn, the guy who did know what a loan was in the second season, is now the master of coin and the leader of the breadbasket of the Westeros. yeah, okay, fine.
-The North gets to declare independence, but the Iron Islands who has tried to declare independence multiple times in their history, and Dorne, who was independent longer than anyone else in the country, both don't raise any objection to this. cool.
-Arya has exactly one line of dialogue about being curious at what's west of westeros in the entire show, and that was supposed to be a satisfying ending? heh?
also the varys and blackfrye videos are good to
Yeah, I thought about those too, with the Blackfyre one I come back and rewatch every now and then, but both of those, I think, directly spoil plot points in Knight of The Seven Kingdoms
Also yeah, Bran mentioned they didn't have a Master of War, why not have Bronn be that instead of Master of Coin? Makes zero sense
Tbf, war makes a lot of orphans. Maybe he was suggesting the Unsullied adopt? Prob not tho lol
excited for house of the dragon!!!
Aria going to find me feel really stupid when she realizes the world be round
I never hated the Bran thing, I just didn't like what they did to Jon. It was left quite open for more in the future if they ever decide to but I feel like it's been quite a while since so probably not.
There was supposed to be a show iirc, but it was cancelled
did sean really say season 8 was good and people on the internet hated on it just because it was trendy? that is the biggest cope in the entire month
it was all downhill from there either you didnt notice all the holes or you are just a fan of a bad few seasons
The Lore and history of each season reactions would be so awesome! They had the actual voices of the characters narrate different parts.
What a season! Personally, I think I prefer season 7, but wow, what a waste season 8 was...
There are many aspects that disappointed me, but I think the videos by Supercut Delight summarise it all very well. The videos also revealed inconsistencies that I hadn't noticed at first, and it's quite remarkable to see how the writing of the series falls apart from SEASON 5 onwards!
The writers of the series... what can I say? Seasons 7 and 8 show their lack of understanding of GoT. They ruined several character arcs, starting with the antagonists (Cersei and the Night King in particular). And then there's Jaime, what a WASTE. I stopped liking him in season 4 (when he rapes Cersei), but the problem in season 8 is that his character's logic falls apart. His entire redemption is based on saving the capital, and in season 8 he tells us he doesn't care about the inhabitants. Come on!!!
* I think I dislike season 7 more, but wow, what a waste season 8 was...
NGL, it's kinda crazy that Daenerys let Jon go in there and talk to Tyrion, especially to not even have someone listening to what they're talking about
i like the ending for the characters but the pacing was off season 7 should have been 8 episodes. and season 8 should have been just dealing with night king and been 6 episodes still and a season 9 of 6 episodes dealing with Cersei.
Here we Go! It's been an awesome journey with you guys. can't wait to watch the next show with you all
I got the first Signed throne bros poster framed btw
you should the knight of seven kingdom trailer
Oh god here we goooo, I can already feel the pain from the thumbnail xD
So honestly I don't hate most of what happened. Except the North being granted independance which I feel like was fan service-y. But a lot of the rest of it does make sense for reasons given but it all REALLYYYY needed more time to develop. But overall, knowing where it all ended, I am broadly happy, it's just a shame two or three extra series were stolen from us...
Has Eric already watched HoD?
Didn't they say at one point that Eric was gonna join for House of the Dragon reactions when they were done with season 8, so probably not, but I could be wrong.
Thank you, I hadn't realized they said that but that was why I was asking
I'm guessing no, considering they've been watching GoT on their own. I don't see a reason why they wouldn't have just added him here too, if it was the same situation with HotD. All 3 of them did react to the first 3-4 episodes when they came out, but those were deleted a while ago, and they likely have no memory of what happened then lol
I didn't know they said he would join in for HotD, so that's why I was asking if he'd seen it, cause if he hasn't then he might as well join them....
Nice finale on my birthday. Also fun fact: the series finale for Star Vs The Forces of Evil aired on the same night as this and it was also a finale that fans hated (also the last season wasn't liked much). But despite the finale the show is really fun. Excited for House of the Dragon!
We made it Billy!
I would love to see them react to black sails it’s a show about pirates it should’ve been as popular/more popular than Game of Thrones but sadly it got overtaken It’s basically pirate Game of Thrones, but with a good ending.
Really need you guys to eventually watch Reacher or Vikings
Or The Last Kingdom.
Reacher would a badass watch
I second Vikings
And at long last we’ve arrived at the end of the GOT journey. People left the series with a lot of emotions and I try not to into the whole everybody disliked this thing but man the way this ending still rubs me and so many wrong with the choices made..happy to see you guys complete the show though. Excited for whenever you start House Of The Dragon!
Let the what the fuckery commence
Ooooohh an hour and 48 minutes, I am EXCITED for that discussion
