I never really blamed Jaime for going back to Cersei, they're twins after all, their bond runs deep regardless of all of Jaime's character development. It was disappointing, but I'll live. That said, his sleeping w Brienne felt like the writers' way of giving in to fans who want them to bang (I've felt the same way about Jon and Dany) idk it felt Wattpad-esque to me. I mean I love their not-so-platonic friendship and in-universe I understand that they just survived an entire battle w the army of the dead so emotions are running high, but that's how I've always felt about it. I've rewatched many of their scenes together but even here I skipped their sex scene.
this episode was horrible, multi character arcs were destroyed after 7 seasons for dumb reasons, the dragon dying, missandri somehow just magically captured, the destruction of Jamie's arc, turning Dany into a jealous lil girl all of a sudden, horrible writing, not at all what the author had planned. It's so rushed, such modern writing, everything keeps going downhill from here even more, it's so sad.
Jaime's character U-turn makes no sense because he literally threw away his entire reputation as a legendary knight to stop Aerys from burning King's Landing, yet we're supposed to believe Jaime would just be perfectly chill with Cersei after watching her burn the sept along with hundreds, if not thousands, of people.
Unfortunately we love who Jaime could be. But ultimately he’s mostly a bad person. And also Cersei is his twin. They’ve always had each other. It sucks from a viewer stand point but Jaime going to King’s Landing makes sense within the the character. But so shitty to do to Brienne after taking her virginity he left to go save his evil twin. Woof. Justice for Brienne. Tormund would never.
We have met the people of kings landing many times Honestly I’m with Missandei burn that bitch to the ground. Dracarys.
If they've made it this far and are still enjoying it, the mad lads just might pull this off.
My dogs name is Nymeria, and her sisters name is Khaleesi lol
John's "For those who come after" line reminds me of the same line from Expedition 33. Wonder if the Devs took some inspiration from GOT there
Presumably Bran knew if Theon didn't delay those lase few seconds the night king would have killed him before Arya got there
Wait, did they edit the Starbuck cup out of the DVD?
They edited it out like a couple days after the original aired
Enjoy what you enjoy. It's okay to disagree with the status quo. The final 2 episodes really are hard to like.
you enjoyed this episode? thats wild. nothing has ever made me as angry as this fucking episode. those writers deserve to be sh0t
Jesus, calm down its not that serious, saying that should happen to someone whose writing you disagreed with is wild. People are allowed to have different opinions, just because you didn't like something doesn't mean they have to as well.
I truly cant believe you guys thought that episode was good, by all means enjoy the show if you enjoy it and I'm just a bitter commenter but man the writing is just like a fanfic compared to what it used to be; the teleporting, the character assassinations, magically recovering half their forces after we saw practically all of them wiped out, 'forgetting' the iron fleet, Massandei magically getting captured off screen, 5 of the 7 kingdoms are just nowhere to be seen (The storm lands just happen to have no one ruling them since Stannis died despite their being an entire lineage), the sellsword Bronn randomly just being giving multiple castles and lands that have dozens of ancient houses in line to them? Season 1-3 characters would be bowing and pledging loyalty to Danearys in a heart beat after all shes done and lost in a world where war and death has never been seen as evil (Tyrion murdered 1000s including Davos' son with wild fire), the Night King stuff was just over after an episode and we lost no major player (or apparently armies? but the dragon gets taken out in 5 seconds by Euron?). I am ranting at this point but it truly is crazy how much you can see about 2-3 seasons is smushed into one season that time wise averages out as smaller than the usual season length.
Missandei basically said. Burn them all. Just like the Mad King. and in my opinion, Dannys actions after this moment are justified
The writing is a bit sketchy but don't let it distract how well they are shot, some of these episodes are so good they just needed a bit more care with the writing
everyone has so much plot armor, it's crazy
Oh, you think you will enjoy and have fun with the rest of the season? How cute lmao
Nothing enrages me more in the entire film and tv industry, then the sloppy writing of this season and the pathetic death of Rhaegal.
That "Oh shit" in unison when Sansa called Tyrion back killed me 💀
Cersei could have shot the scorpion arrows at anyone there at the end, including Dany and her last dragon. But instead, she respects the ceasefire and kills her only hostage.
Thank you for sum reason Cersei Lannister for once decided to play the rules. Even though the entire show she chosen not to but right here when she could end the war she just does wtf
I saw a comment once, the heartbreaking thing about gendry and arya is, Gendry rivers could have been with her, but Lord gendry baratheon never could.
ouch
I would love to see you guys rank every character
I hate the 2nd half of this season so much, I can't even bring myself to watch the reaction.
same, im just sitting here like no, i dont think i will.
such miserable people you are, why are you treating a comment section like its your personal diary to vent out your frustrations in? absolutely no one cares.
my biggest grip with this season isn't actual the show (yes there is plenty of things to point out) it was the post-show discussion segments where D&D would justify the actions taken in the episode. David literally said Daenerys forgot about the iron fleet as the excuse for why no one was being vigilant or acting as a lookout. the things they said after every single episode were so mind nummingly stupid. i recommend you check out those segments as just a random reaction to understand where the basis of the hatred for D&D comes from
It’s also just bullshit. In the episode we see them planning at Winterfell and Varys says “The Golden Company has arrived by courtesy of the Iron Fleet.” He literally name drops them in front of Dany
The showrunner justification was that Danny FORGOT about the iron fleet. THat was grade A bullcrap. Write better
I remember you guys were talking about how Game of Thrones doesn’t have enough lore stories for their show so I recommend watching the series “Game of Thrones: Histories and Lore” on the channel Thrones Insider. It goes by season and also goes heavily in depth of Robert’s Rebellion and how the Targaryen’s fell and also how much of a badass Prime Robert was. HBO is also releasing loosely based shows off of the prequel stories to the main story
what did they do with the metric fuck ton of wight bones?
Ghost ate them all
This episode is what cemented my opinion of Daenarys. I had been wary of her for seasons due to her obsession with her birthright. She raised an army because of her birthright. She crossed the Narrow Sea because of her birthright. She executed the Tarlys because they wouldn't acknowledge her birthright.
Then, when it turns out that birthright was false, what does she do? Does she abdicate in favor of the one with the actual birthright? Of course not. She still considers it HER birthright. She knows Jon to be an honorable man and that he's willingly giving up the throne to her, but she can't accept the illegitimacy of her original claim. No, it must be hidden in falsehoods. For the good of the realm? Nope. For the sake of herself.
Dany has a lot of good qualities, but contrasting the humbleness of Jon up against her ego really shows in stark relief why he'd make a better leader.
After all the shit she’s been through in her life she finally felt she gained a purpose I can’t claim her for spiraling when she felt that purpose slipping away, George RR Martin has said that is definitely not the doubt he would have gone with her character so that mf better hurry up with the books
Heh, “Stark relief”
I love hearing you talk about how this episode is amazing while reading so many comments about how much people hate it. The biggest problem I see with the haters is how they expect every character to make completely logical decisions when they've been shown to be flawed throughout the entire series. It blows my mind how many people will theorycraft their way into hating a show because it didn't go exactly how their headcannon said it would. I'll admit that even I do this sometimes. For me, I felt like they through away Jamie's character development, but after seeing this show 9 times all the way through, I realized I'm biased because it's not how I wanted Jamie's story to go. It does make sense that Jamie would go back to Cersei because he is a tragic character. He neraly builds himself into retribution, but abandons it to fulfill his addiction. Do I wish he remained on the path of redemption, yes. Would that have made sense? Yes, but so does the canon outcome of the series. Both make sense and I can be at peace with that. Unfortunately, the haters can't see past their own biases, headcannons, and applications of pure logic to flawed characters. Dany has ALWAYS been a character that acts off her emotion rather than logic, not to mention the non-stop mention of her family's tendency toward insanity. Every decision makes sense for her character, but people still complain that she acts this way. It's mind blowing really.
You guys need to watch Coldplay's Game of Thrones the Musical!! Its on Youtube. It has a bunch of the actors in it, and its hilarious!
That scene with Jon and Daenerys in his room, first time I saw that, my first thought was 'You sound like your brother', specifically on the night when Daenerys ate the horse heart.
I don't really know where to put reccomendations but hbo has the animated show creature commandos, 7 episodes that feels like dc meets archer
but i do love the moment where sansa pins the stark wolf on theon. born a greyjoy, died a stark. 😭
I think regarding "the ending ruining the show" I think most people feel the same way, its just how we articulate it. Like the car crash doesn't diminish the good part of the car ride, but if you lose the ability to walk and go through 6 years of rehab, the positivity of the car ride is a little outshined by the shitty ending
Yeah The scene with the fleet and the dragon is like top 3 most hated moments in the history of the show, the logic is pretty stupid and the director explaining that "danny just forgot about the fleet" pissed people off even more.
I hate everything about this episode. So much character development was thrown out the window. I don't recognize these characters. Almost none of it makes sense. Jamie's character development? Gone. Dany's character development? Gone. The line from Sansa about her abusers making her as strong as she is!? FUCKING HATE IT! This episode sucks so hard.
quot from the writers "dany just kind of forgot about the iron fleet"
you cant make this shit up
I'd be interested in seeing Eric join in for the last episode. Be there for the finale and join in the wrap up and expectations for HoD discussions
These saying that this was an incredible episode my my brain skip a beat. The decisions made in this episode and the character choices where the worse thing ever. Jamie after all that character development just decided nope going to to my sister who literally sent an assassin after him and his brother is fucking silly. Them deciding that Bron will be lord of the Reach, one of the wealthiest of the seven kingdoms a the kingdom with all the food is fucking silly. The reach lord would overthrow Bron before he could even set foot in high garden. The Dragon being shot out of the sky because Danny forgot about the an iron fleet was the worse writing I’ve seen she forgot about the 1,000 ships keeping her from victory fucking really. Her decision to not rest her army the men she claimed to car so much about is fucking silly, before I forget about the iron fleet part they shot down a dragon but appeared right in front of Danny’s fleet and not a single person could see them off the horizon fucking really. Somehow mislande got off the boat first and the iron fleet never got close to them but she was captured really. The wildlings deciding to not stay in the north and help repopulate it or rebuild it but to go back beyond the wall where nothing grows is fucking silly. Lance raider literally united all their clans and Jon gave them what they were looking for safely south of the wall and after years of wars with the north they finally got that but fuck it let’s go back to the uninhabited part of the north .
Are you guys planning to react to the histories and lore extras? If not, I did hear you mention you wanted to watch it, so be forewarned, there are some spoilers for HoTD and KoTSK there.
Sorry, a fleet of ships sneaking up on Danerys and two dragons while they are flying in the sky was dumb. I'm mad they let the second dragon go out like that. They could have made that dragon's death epic during the final battle instead of in this episode. Just seemed like lazy writing to me. Also, how the fuck did they even get Missandei?! And how did they know what ship she was on??? And I hated that they brought Brienne into Jamie's mess only for him to abandon her. That story could have just been left out.
All excellent and valid points haha man…yeah they reeaally fucked up the writing. They will forever be remembered as those who ignorantly fucked up an S tier show because they wanted to “hurry”. Fucking crazy, if both seasons 7 & 8 had 10 episodes each that would’ve been plenty of time to create a satisfying ending. They could’ve kept a lot of what they had, extended some parts, and re-write the dumb shit (sped up parts and ending). Like really? How in the f….you know what I’m done lol. I’m pissed and just typing now
It's funny how you were talking about Jaime's development just before he leaves. The problem is that at this point it's guess work to how this story will go for these characters in the books because the show takes them in different directions. For Jaime for example, it is almost certain that he wouldn't go back to Cercie. Plus with how everything else is going on, it's not about how it stays from the books, they just don't know how to write these characters without GRRM and many characters suffer because of it
the last two episodes are... a lot. I really want to see how you react to the eventual reveal because damn, that's like the worst choice they could have done.
Man, I hate how the destroyed seasons of jaime's arc in one scene. And I could never take Cersei seriously once she started to become so comically evil this season. Like, she does the worst shit imaginable just because
I just don't get how Daenerys is perfectly fine with waiting for years to build up strength to sail to Westeros, but after fighting the literal army of the dead, she is so impatient about the iron throne and then makes dumb decisions that gets her dragon killed bc according to the showrunners she "forgot about the iron fleet". I think it could have worked a lot better if there were more episodes to show Daenerys becoming so unhinged that she would make obvious mistakes but it feel like the writers are just forcing it to happen so that they can get to the end. It's good for characters to change over time, but you need the time to show and justify those changes.
One could argue she began to quickly grow impatient after the loss of Viserion and it was hastened by Rhaegal's demise. The issue, as is always presented with this season, was the pacing and short episode count.
Oh god, I am dreading Episode 4 and 5... Episode 3's ending still pisses me off so many years later and I did not like these episodes either. Welp.... time to rewatch for the first time since this episode aired
Hoping they react to the South Park Black Friday trilogy (3 part Game of Thrones Parody). It’s South Park Season 17, episodes 7-9
you should watch some alt shift x videos explain differnce between the books and show
And a Glidus Pisstake. I would love that so much.
In the words of the director " Danny just forgot about the fleet"😂
I gotta say I don't mind this season, I kinda saw it coming in season 4. It's definitely not optimal for story.
Season 8 second half lets go!
