Game of Thrones Episode 1 Reaction
This was such an awesome reaction and the end discussion was just as awesome as the show! I should have thought of hat when I was watching this show as it aired! A cake of Cersei
You guys keep confusing what a whitewalker is, there are only a few whitewalkers, the guys on horses, the ones with the ice weapons, they are very distinct, they all look similar to the Night King, who is the leader of the whitewalkers, everyone else with blue eyes or skeletons, all of those undead people, those are called Wights, basically zombies under the command of the whitewalkers, an estimate is there is less than 50 actual whitewalkers, but hundreds of thousands of undead wights.
Guys the white walkers and the regular zombies are different. White walkers are stong, skilled and unkillable except for dragon glass and now as yove seen, valaryian steel. the basic zombies that the white walkers turn people into, are Wights, just a zombie horde that can be killed by normal means, but theres a fuck ton of them
Wights can't be killed by normal means. Dragon glass, Valeryian steel or fire kills them.... You can behead them, chop arms off etc to stop them but they're gonna shrug off stabs and slashes etc
White Walkers are super skilled and I don't think anything but those weapons can even pierce them, their weapons can't be blocked either unless it's dragon glass or Valeryian steel as shown.
A lot of the criticisms I have with Seasons 7&8 is that the creators were just bulldozing through to finish it off quickly so they could move on to their next project, and they rushed so much that it felt completely disconnected.
Ramsey is awful. I was sick of him by this point. Who knew we’d long for the days of Joffrey being the worst we had to deal with.
You should watch Histories and Lore of Game of Thrones. It'll help.
Its not the SA thats frustrating (its way worse in the books and yes its Sansa's friend pretending to be Arya), its the fact that its happening to Sansa. Her 'virtue' and safety is paramount and book Littlefinger would never put her in that spot.
I love that they played on our pattern recognition. Season 2 and 4 both had the huge setpiece battles in Episode 9, with the whole episode being just there. Season 5 they drop one halfway through episode 8 after jumping around beforehand. No one expected
Probably one of my favourite episodes of Television ever. The dead silence at the end (Pun intended) what a moment.
I know that was the perfect way to end this episode. As someone that loves and ran a D&D campaign in an Undead world. I absolutely love this version of how they operate. That subtle show of inevitability by the leader Walker was perfect. nothing will survive. Not bravery, duty, motherly love, or desperation. All will fall and this was probably the largest loss of Life to be swallowed by what follows the Long Winter.
To break it down without spoilers. The art of forging Valyrian Steel has been lost. It can be reworked, but not made. It is believed that Dragonfire and blood magic is involved in its creation. Widows Wail, Joffrey's sword, is now in Jamie's possession. There are only a little over a hundred Valyrian Steel swords in Westeros, just about all of them belonging to old Houses, plus several hundred across the sea.
As for Dragon glass, yes it can kill the big boys, Sam killed a one. The big boys are White Walkers. The regular dead soldiers are Whites.
It's 'Wights', which basically just means 'undead thing', but I can understand how you thought it was 'white' if you've never seen it written down
Another comment said there are only like 10 in Westeros, a reply to it said over 200, and now you're saying a little over 100. Is there a definitive number or is it just speculative?
There are a number of named and confirmed swords in Westeros. Probably around 10, belonging to old houses like the Tarlys, the Hightowers and the Celtigars. How many there actually are in Westeros is unknown, though it probably is not many. Essos most likely has more, though that is purely speculation based on the vicinity to Old Valyria.
It was Drogon flying over. And the doom destroyed Valyria, not the dragons. Even the dragons were killed by the doom. If my memory is right, the only dragons that survived were the ones already taken to Westeros by members of House Targaryen before the Doom.
Side note: if ya'll are into books at all, I highly recommend The World of Ice and Fire, it's a comprehensive illustrated history of the entire universe leading up to the main series. (Alot of info about the Dawn age, Valyria, Westerosi houses etc).
What exactly is "the doom"??? I've always been confused about it. Was it just a massive volcanic eruption like Krakatoa?
Aurion and his dragons survived the doom but him and his army vanished trying to reclaim Valyria.
In regards to SA thing the actress who plays sansa just turned 18 in real life and then immediately getting an SA scene that wasnt in the books wasnt a great look. so with that cersei scene plus gilly sleeping with sam right after that almost happening to her even though the idea of a women sleeping with savior after almost being SAd was mocked at by Shea when tyrion was telling her the story of the first women he married it just becomes something hard to ignore.
I believe there is like 10 or 11 Valarian Steal blades currently in Westeros the ones Yall know about are Longclaw-John Snows sword formerly the ancestral sword of house Mormont, Oathkeeper in the possession of Brianne of House Tarth and Widows Wail curently in possession of King Tommen of House Lannister/Baratheon both swords were forged from Ice the ancestral great sword of house stark, and the unnamed Valyrian steel dagger that belonging to Littlefinger presumably still in his possession, we will learn of few others as the story continues and i have no ideas why i typed this comment this way i feel like Ken Berns lol wtf
There are over 200 valaryan steel swords in Westeros
If y'all do a Cersei cake you should have it be her with the painted rocks on her eyes like with Tywin and Joffrey.
Also been waiting for Hardhome and you didn't disappoint!! Gah! It's just such a visceral smash about the true scope and danger of the Walkers, done without warning and on full display. I just love that it legitimizes the fear of the great unnatural evil in this world beyond the petty squabbles of the kingdoms. It sets the stage between biblical grand conflict and personal shit. Love it!
59:40 Remember, Tywin put Tyrion in charge of maintaining Casterly Rock’s sewage system. And while I doubt he actually toiled the labor physically, his treatment and the delegation of lower duties does give him a far more humble perspective relative to other nobles.
The White Walkers are the smarter horseman guys, the mindless zombies are just called wights.
Around 16 minutes, the delivery from Sophie Turner gives me chills everytime. Kit Harringtons delivery of "Nights Watch! With me!" Also gives me a chill as well.
This is by far my favorite episode of the series.
No one knows what caused the Doom. But it wasn’t dragons turning on them; 14 volcanoes went up at once, and it was said that even dragons in the skies were burned by the heat. Massive earthquakes, the ground split open to swallow entire cities. The sea rushed in and that area is now called the Smoking Sea.
sword fight tournament on sorta stupid 2?
The secret of forging Valyrian steel was lost in the Doom of Valyria. After this point, creating new Valyrian steel weapons became impossible, so the original method can only be speculated: Some stories claim that the metal was imbued with magic spells and forged with dragonfire, though no one can confirm or deny this. Skilled smiths can reforge Valyrian steel weapons by melting down existing ones, but it's a difficult process. The master-blacksmiths of Qohor are among the very few who can accomplish this feat, but even they don't know how to create entirely new Valyrian steel.
White Walkers: The race of mythical humanoid creatures that can create
Wights: the undead zombies, both fleshy corpses and old skeletons
They are definitely confusing the two. Though, to be fair, there hasn't been much clarity on any of this up to now
for some reason when jon snow stood on the rowboat i was thinking, that guy is also a villian in call of duty
Did you guys notice Brann Dailor, Brent Hinds, and Bill Kelliher among the wildlings?
A little cameo from Mastodon!
Also last season during Joffrey's wedding celebration, the band playing music was Sigur Ros.
Man, I/we love how you guys are so invested in this show - enough to instantly realize Valyrian Steel was the difference between killing a White Walker and not killing one (at least in this situation). It can be easy to forget that Jon has one. This is one of my favorite episodes, so I appreciate your attention to detail on a first watch.
The dragon Tyrion and Jorah saw, was Drogon. He went missing again after the scene on the roof with Daenerys
And Daenerys asks someone about Drogon and they say the last time he was seen was near Valeria. So that's another clue too. 😁
Actually the white walkers have been gone for not just hundreds of years but thousands of years.
The shear quiet at the end
Dude, I fucking love the show Ted Lasso. Probably my favorite show right along there with Alice In Borderland.
Have they watched Ted Lasso? I can't remember
Not sure, I'd say Sean has seen it since he mentions it but if there's no reaction to it I'd say he watched it on his own time. If the others haven't seen it though I wouldn't mind a reaction to it.
Others have said but the zombie like undead are Wights and the icy ones are the actual White Walkers. Also Jaime doe snot have a valyrian steel sword he gave his to Brienne.
No, he left Joffrey's sword, Widow's Wail behind in King's Landing when he left for Dorne
Both Oathkeeper and Widow's Wail were reforged from Ned Stark's Claymore
Also, Tyrion's dagger (which was actually Littlefinger's dagger) from S1 is also made from Valyrian steel. It's rare but not that rare.
the only bad season imo was the last one, and even that had amazing parts to it. the prequel show House of the Dragon is just as good IMO and the books are all written so they wont run out of material like game of thrones did.
Great reaction as always guys! Really hoping you guys plan to start on Rick and Morty season 8 soon. It just wrapped and it is SO GOOD, you guys are gonna love it.
pls react to hisotries and lore of GoT. The Actors tell stories from the world that are relevant to thge story from the perspective of the characters . Also react to Money Heist please
Seconding would love to see this, those videos are really well done and flesh out the world a ton
I love this episode. Next week I can finally explain the spoiler that got me into the show.
Not me skipping right to this episode immediately
