    So to answer Boom’s question about why they don’t give each person their own kingdom, Westeros is based on England which originally had seven kingdoms called East Anglia, Mercia, Northumbria, Wessex, Sussex, Essex and Kent which were united by Alfred the Great and his descendants into one big kingdom(one could say a United Kingdom). In Westeros, the Targaryens fled their homeland after an unknown cataclysm destroyed everything, leaving them as the sole survivors. They went to Westeros and conquered the Seven Kingdoms, making them one kingdom with the patriarch of the family, Aegon the Conqueror, being the first king and every kingdom being run by a Warden. When they refer to these places as kingdoms, they mean like what states are to us Americans. We all follow the law of the president but we also have our own laws enforced by our individual governors.

       A minor flaw in your description of why the Targaryens conquered westeros, they fled Valaryia because one of their own had a vision of the cataclysm. They didnt leave after the fact, but before, otherwise theyd have died along with all the other dragon lords.
