Fun fact: Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) is right-handed but Arya is left-handed in the books so she specifically trained to do her sword fighting left-handed to be accurate to the character. Even though the showrunners were fine with making her right-handed in the show to cater for the young actress.

I forgot how good this show was. Shame the story wasn't finished by the actual creator. I hope we get a proper ending some day.

One of my biggest problems with this and HotD is that no one in the show looks exactly as they're described in the books (sounds stupid but give me a sec to explain). For example, Jon, Ned, and Arya are supposed to have dark brown hair and dark gray eyes (Everyone in House Stark, till Ned's kids, have been said to look like that for 8,000 years, the Targaryens are known for their silver hair and purple eyes (every Valyrian has some form of these colors), the Baratheon's are described with pitch-black hair and stormy blue eyes, and the Lannister's have Gold hair, with Green eyes with gold mixed in. (most of these characters genetics are supposed to be magically based going back 8,000 years of the same hair and eye color, you'll have deviations but its super rare, its a minor pillar of this series) Another YouTuber, named Glidus, has pointed out how easy and not even costly it is to change someone's eye color with post-production effects (he does it regularly in his GOT Review series, every frame has Dany and Viserys' eyes as they are described in the books). So, if the actors didn’t wear contacts, they could have altered their eye colors digitally, the physical attributes of characters are insanely important in the books, they do a slightly better job in HotD but that's a whole nother can of worms lol.

Seasons and Their Corresponding Books
Season 1 (2011): A Game of Thrones
This season closely follows the first book, introducing the main plotlines and characters.
Season 2 (2012): A Clash of Kings
Similar to the first season, it aligns well with the second book.
Season 3 (2013): The first half of A Storm of Swords
This season covers the first part of the third book, which is larger than the first two.
Season 4 (2014): The second half of A Storm of Swords
It concludes the events of the third book.
Season 5 (2015): A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons
This season combines elements from both books and introduces new material.
Season 6 (2016): Also draws from A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons, with additional original content.
Seasons 7 and 8 (2017-2018): These seasons include unpublished material and new storylines not found in the books. George R. R. Martin provided an outline for the final two books, which the showrunners used to create the series' conclusion.

It’s never really explicitly stated in the show, but the story that the old lady tells Bran is in fact true. The seasons in Westeros are not like that in the real world. Summers in this world last for hundreds of years to then be met with an event called the “long night” in which the world is plunged into freezing darkness for decades at a time, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands every time this occurs.

The Books and the Shows are very different experiences and I don't think you can jump between them without being very confused. Anyway, here are the ages of the young characters in the show(which differs from the books):
Daenerys Targaryen - 16
Robb Stark - 16
Jon Snow - 16
Joffrey Baratheon - 16
Sansa Stark - 13Arya Stark - 11
Myrcella Baratheon - 10
Bran Stark - 10
Tommen Baratheon - 8
Rickon Stark - 6

What I love about grimdark fantasies is everyone is morally-speaking, various shade of grey. There is always some poison in the character, even the protagonists.

The way things are handled in the book compared to the show as far as the "romance" between Dany and Khal Drogo is starkly different. I HIGHLY recommend the books even though they aren't complete yet. Like, Dany isn't raped during the consummation of their marriage, they take their time until she is comfortable and THEN they do the nasty. Their dynamic in the books, in my opinion is so much better.

Something about you saying "if he was going to die they wouldn't have kept him alive this long" reminded me; in the books, after the prologue with the Night's Watch guy who ran and was executed, the first chapter was from Bran's point of view. The books switch between viewpoint characters each chapter, but that first chapter gives you the impression that Bran's going to be the protagonist we'll be following throughout and then it ends with Jaime pushing Bran off the tower.

Also - in the middle of this series I was such a huge fan that my coworkers got together and made me a cardboard Iron Throne at my desk chair at work. I kept it and bring it out for work calls during Halloween.

I love this world so so much... I love the fact that while yes, there are a lot of people and names and stuff to keep track of, George RR Martin really fleshed out this world like crazy. And you can see how easily they integrated that into a digestible way for a wider audience., and to influence in the world building and characters. It's so top tier story telling combined with top tier television production.

I recommend that after every season, you watch the Histories and Lore. They’re little special features that should be on that box set you have but if not, they’re on youtube. They are what they sound like, backstory. It’ll really help on some stuff.
