Before starting this with you, I decided to do a little deep dive on Classic Doctor Who to see what stuff I should know from the older seasons. The Dalek and the Cybermen are two of the Doctor’s biggest threats, they show up in so many episodes. There’s other returning monsters as well, like the Nestene Consciousness and the plastic men, but Dalek and Cybermen are the big boys.
Also, apparently they didn’t have the Sonic screwdriver until the fifth doctor.
girl i KNOW it's a meme with you guys to mistreat rose and i shouldn't take it seriously but COME ON BRO why did she want her dad to know he's her dad??? why did she want to speak the truth in her last moments with her father?!?! "I'm hoping rose gets an eye-opener with mickey leaving" what do you MEAN she's consistently treated people with empathy and care, she's incredibly emotional! She has petty jealously with a previous companion and buries it in that same episode! Then turned it on the doctor! The companions unionized! Her relationship with Mickey Is Awful but so is every relationship where you fall out of love with someone but still love them, even while they still love you. She should have broken up with him clean but you've SEEN how Mickey is. He's co-dependent and ALSO didn't ever try to break up properly when she ran off. Both of them have responsibility towards letting their relationship peter out into this grey area of kinda-more-than-friends-kinda-exes bs and they did it for a narrative purpose! For commentary! On all the incredibly human relationships that do this!
I'm just genuinely losing my mind because i KNOW it's a joke you cannot possibly be disregarding all the kind and compassionate things Rose does in favour of whatever bitchy comment she makes that THE DOCTOR also makes! In the same scene! AHHH. One of you genuinely needs to be elected as resident Rose-defender going forward because it's hard to watch and I vote Boom. Yeah that's right. Look what you've done. /j
In my Mind Mickey is a chaotic Bisexual and him and Jake are together freedom fighting
Bro you guys are so stupid when it comes to Rose which is crazy considering how empathetic you normally are
would you say they’re… sorta stupid?
Of course she makes bad decisions she's NINETEEN
and being nineteen does not exonerate you from being a shitty person. I was also a shitty person at 19. Being young doesn't mean you get a pass for being shitty
According to, I think it was a deleted scene with, like, crew insistence that it's still canon (I don't remember exactly, it's been a while), the reason Jake was so torn up when Ricky died goes beyond them just being best friends. They were apparently an item.
Yeah, it was censored I believe, the reason they mention Paris in the end, is because Rickey and Jake were supposed to go to Paris together when it was all over. "I'm not replacing him" Is a line referring to him saying that he isn't gonna be his new boyfriend/husband. Sad that the BBC caved so easily.
Do want to point out that those rope ladders are notoriously hard to climb stationary, let alone hanging from a moving zeppelin.
The best part of these reacts is expression on Sean's face everytime the gang predicts something and he cant react cause of spoilers
The musical motifs on this show are great tools of foreshadowing throughout the whole show so listen closely!!
Sometimes I hate how unempathetic you guys are. Like, whenever characters make choices that you disagree with, you just jump to hating the character, and make absolutely no effort to actually understand them or their perspective.
To be clear, I don't disagree that Rose treats Mickey like crap, or that she makes a lot of bad decisions. But I feel like you guys give her a pretty disproportionate amount of hate and usually can't see her perspective, and can't appreciate her better qualities either.
We give her just the amount of hate she deserves for how she acts
Agree. All the characters are meant to be imperfect but it’s like Rose can’t do anything without being completely torn apart. Of course Rose wants to know her father even if it’s a parallel version of him because she never got to know him and I always took her telling him at the end (when he asked) as a hope he might come with them so he could be with her mum. If I was ever in that situation I’d probably do the exact same thing Rose and Mickey did. And when Mickey wanted to meet his grandmother in this version it was acceptable but not Rose wanting to see her father?
RTD writes stories about realistic people (at least in this era) and I think these guys are too poisoned with pop culture knowledge to realise people don't really act perfectly in most situations. Like, Rose isn't aware she's in a TV show, she's not going to behave like she is and make all the 'right' choices.
Yeah I agree. RTD wrote her to be an imperfect character and a reflection of real human emotion not a perfect sidekick that always does what’s she’s told and never gets jealous. She’s the opposite of that but she has room for growth, but her relationship with the Doctor is super dependent and that’s not just on her side. You can see it on his too. They mentioned how it’s just fun and games to Rose in the Tooth and Claw episode but the Doctor and her have the same view on their adventures he took the bet she made about queen Victoria and he was giggling with her the whole time. It’s a disservice to her character to point out her flaws while ignoring the Doctors and completely setting aside her best qualities….that being said everyone agrees Mickey deserved to be treated better but he only decided to cling on to Rose after she started to drift away. He was comfortable in the relationship and didn’t give anything else to it. Let’s not forget that after her job was blown up he was just going to leave her to watch the match, but learned to be more active and engaging, and had his own growth as well. He gathered up the courage to go out there and take part of action. It’s a complete turn around from where he started
There is a difference between imperfect and making the same mistakes over and over, after moments of supposed character growth specifically regarding them. Dozens of shows and characters navigate this very well- looking back on it as a character her redeeming quality for the doctor is she holds on to her world lightly, is ready to be whisked away from it and barge through the universe, and feels deeply without actually considering the feelings of those closest to her, oh and she’s hot.
She is a reflection of his own flaws, literally the kind of toxic relationship… out of Mad Men. Nothing means anything but the next rush for her and the Doctor doesn’t feel it anymore so he feels it vicariously- some of that is interesting but when reflected upon and grown in and from not when blown past. Her jealousy is also interesting, but then they wallow in this completely garbage communication and lack of Empathy like it’s Rick and Morty. They don’t deconstruct it or acknowledge it and when they do, it’s… not built upon.
People making the same mistakes is also interesting, but there is a difference between tropy problems, fighting to do better and the doctor finally barely not being an ass to his ridealong’s sidepiece after he fights like hell to become something that the story might care about, unlike the hot girl who’s value is inherent obviously, and receives endless forgiveness for her mistakes. I didn’t feel like this when I watched it as a teenager but reflecting on these episodes in a run it loses its familiar tropy-ness, like a comic book might have, and becomes something else.
girl you are insane for referencing mad men and rick and morty. Am I supposed to believe there is no misogyny in this comment. Do better
Now I wanna see a Dalek and Cyberman fight
I love Rose, but she does treat Mickey like shit, so I get it
Because he lets her. She's a bad girlfriend to him, but he still tolerates her.
So glad were getting more
