To be clear, Ecclestone's 'politics' comment referred to workplace politics, not like, political views. Although he definitely has strong political views, that wasn't the reason. There was a lot of bullying and harassment that allegedly went on and allegedly the top people (RTD and the producers), didn't address it properly

Everyone has "Their Doctor" and favorite Companion. Usually the one they were introduced to first or was on running tv at that time. Rose is bittersweet and very much loved by a lot of the fanbase. She kind of grows on you in your memories with her absence. (BTW someone missed a gong for saying it would be a Dalek vs Cyberman war episode!)

Btw that Norwegian word "Darlig Ulv Stranden", Rose butchered that pronounciation rofl, its actually "Dårlig" + "Ulv Stranden" if anything, and just means "Bad (as in "Poor", like poor quality) Wolf Beach"

Not just that, "stranden" means  "beach" not "bay." A more accurate name would've been "Slem Ulv Stranden" (or "Slem Ulv Bukten" if you wanna stick with "bay"), but I wouldn't be surprised if they went with "Dårlig" purely for the "Dalek?" response from the Doctor.

Also just to clarify, the beach does exist, it's just not in Norway, it's called "Dunraven Bay" and is in South Wales.

also, the pronounciation for "Dårlig" is like "D-O-rlig" for americans out there :p

Great reaction guys!! Man I can not wait for the up coming episodes.

Rose had issues and that is a good thing to me, makes her human if she has flaws. I had loved Rose, watching the series as it came out (and being immature myself at the time). Bad Wolf story line was so cool to me and she was all wrapped up in that and that made me like her too. She grew up so much during her time as a companion and the Doctor got so attached to her- the man loves her. It hurts so bad seeing him sad- in any capacity and because he loved her so much I did too. That parting always makes me cry.

After watching these reactions back to back (even after years of rewatching Doctor Who) its striking me funny that the words 'turn left' have been repeated several times now.

Eccleston is very much against the royal family. He called Queen Elizabeth, "Parasite-in-chief in her idiot hat." The show has a positive view of the royal family. That could have been part of the issue. Personally, I love him more for it.

I definitely feel like you guys overblow how often terrible of a person Rose was. I can understand why you would, because some of them are pretty horrible ways of treating people, and they stick with you. But the majority of the time she was actually pretty kind and empathetic. I also don't think she was so much a terrible person, as much as she just lacked self-awareness. I really don't think she treated Mickey or her mom badly out of any kind of malice. I think she was just swept up in the excitement and her feelings for the doctor, and didn't take the time to self reflect or pay attention to the ways she was hurting people. I don't think she was a terrible person. She was a well-meaning person who did some terrible things out of a lack of self-awareness. That's a massive difference in my eyes.

I hate that you can't edit comments on this site. Seeing my own typos really triggers me lol. I should just take the time to read over my comment before posting, but I'm so accustomed to doing the second pass with an edit. Anyway, the first sentence should say "I definitely feel like you guys overblow how terrible of a person Rose was"

While I’m not the hugest fan of watching Rose episodes (with some notable exceptions) I do tend to forgive how awful she could be. 19 is uhhh. Certainly an age at which a lot of people just kinda suck

I don't like the age as an excuse, honestly. We already infantilize young people way too much, and 19-year-olds are perfectly capable of being very kind, considerate, and thoughtful people. It's not her age that's to blame, it's her lack of self-awareness. Yeah, self-awareness does tend to come with age, but because the older you are the more experience and time you have to self-reflect. I think it's important to still hold people accountable for their actions, regardless of how old they are, because anyone is capable of learning and bettering themselves. But I do still give her some leniency, because she doesn't hurt people out of malice, and it's not entirely her fault that she wasn't self-aware.

While you don’t really need to watch all of classic who to understand the lore of the current show you’re watching I think it would benefit to learn just a couple of things that aren’t really spoilers at all but are some of the blocks that the revival is built on (ie: Susan, Gallifrey, Sarah Jane) because it doesn’t always give you all the information because it’s all also made for the old fans and banks some of that lore to be known. But anyway—- I hope you can somehow find a recap video of classic who and also give the Eighth Doctor movie a quick watch AND when finally get around to 50th anniversary era of the show watch the mini episodes that lead up to the 50th anniversary special As well as the biographical movie that they released around the same time called An Adventure in Time and Space about how the show  came to be

yeah i kinda wish Boom mentioned his grandaughter being the first companion. as his family doesnt get touched upon now, so there isnt much reason to keep that a secret, him having had a family was more just a nod to classic then some mystery that needs solving

I think the Steven Moffat run of Who is better than Russell T. Davies.

My favorite part was the Shit-Talk segment between the cybermen and daleks. Rose was always my least favorite companion. So I didn't feel particularly bad watching Doomsday. I think romantic storylines between The Doctor and his companions are inherently weaksauce.

To elaborate on your question at the end of whether leaving is a choice, it usually is, the actor will choose to leave and the writers work it into a story. Tom Baker's 4th Doctor stayed on for 7 years because he liked how fun it was and it was during his 7th year that he left because he clashed with the new producers.

The OST at the end of the finale, "Doomsday", is still one of my favourite tracks made for the show. There are like, 3 tracks made for the Tenth Doctor, and a good number of tracks made for the Eleventh Doctor that are on my list of music I often listen to. Murray Gold did an absolutely incredible job for this show (I don't know if it's still done or not, but I know there have been a number of televised concerts over the years during which they played OST from the show and often did things like put people in alien costumes, or had a cameo from some of the actors. The amount of things that exist outside the show just to celebrate it is enormous).

You guys might want ti turn down the volume of the show next time - haven't noticed it before so might just be a one off, but it's hard hearing you guys over the actors

That's a side effect of the full length reactions. Volume levels of shows tend to have drastic differences between the highs and lows. If they lowered the show volume, then while we would always be able to hear them, the show would sound too quiet most of the time. The volume of the show here was pretty well adjusted to maximize audio balance, but the reason it drowns them out sometimes is because they're talking during super loud and climactic moments. When they edit, they just adjust the volumes, and make the show quieter for those moments so we can hear them. But they only really lightly edit the full length reactions to cut out breaks and stuff, so that's why this happens.

My favourite is the Eleventh Doctor, especially his eccentricity
