Boom to answer your question, In 2010 when that episode was aired roughly the British economy was doing much better.

Things were truly a reasonable price. (roughly speaking, according to the first source on google) £1 back then was roughly $1.566. Which is strikingly good as the US economy wasn't doing terribly.

Which means £1,000,000 would be equal to $1,566,000 at the time.

And would be equal to $2,347,000 when altered for inflation.

I actually think this episode is a little older then 2010, I think it might be more like 2007.

Which would be mean that 1 million would be worth even more.

So he truly is set for life.

Asking for McDonald’s when your parents just lost their house was a wacky experience

"If I were the Doctor I would just sleep through Christmas" He tried that once, remember? When he regenerated from 9 to 10, and bad shit still went down 😂

Idk if this was brought up in the stream or not but at the end when it says in Memory of Verity Lambert she was  the Founding producer of the original Doctor Who series and she was a pioneer for woman in the media industry unfortunately she died from cancer in November of 2007 one day before the 44th anniversary of Doctor Who and one month before she was to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Women in Film and Television Awards

She's not that good though and I'm pretty sure she never really "broke" America with her music right? She's so overrated imo

Which today probably wouldn't be enough to live off of for life, except that he's old so he doesn't need a whole lifetime of money, just enough to get a house and live happily for a few decades

I'm not gonna lie, I never thought about the fact that R2-D2 had an actor, but thinking about it, yeah it makes sense they'd have someone on the inside moving instead of some other wack way to do it lmao

Every time I watch this, I see Astrid and get dissappointed that she wasn't a companion, then I see the old man and remember who the next companion is and the feeling goes away, every time

I'm pretty sure there are autonomous robots already.  It just seems like there aren't because it's one of the areas where the most public version is Tesla which had to fake theirs
